The site of Palikè already in prehistoric times must have been considered a sacred place, due to the presence of a large natural cave and sulfur water ponds. Beginning in the Archaic age, the Rocchicella area was institutionalized by the Siculi, began to take on a precise physiognomy and to be equipped with structures dedicated to the celebration of rituals and communal meals in honor of the mythical Palìci brothers. It is an indigenous cult with a very strong identity value, capable of aggregating Siculi living in villages often far apart. Its centrality, illustrated by archaeologist Brian Evans McConnell, professor at Florida Atlantic University, becomes fundamental during the Classical age, on the occasion of the Sicilian revolt against the Greek colonists led by Ducezio, who will make the sanctuary of Rocchicella the symbol of local identity.
The documentary is articulated through interviews with archaeologists and experts, but also with ordinary people who, in different forms, have established over the years a relationship with the site of Palikè, whose importance is not limited only to historical information or its material culture, but also to the perceptions of those who recognize the place as an element of their lives as well as of Sicilian identity.
