one thing i hate to call out this late is the different track gauge on this line and the Finch line compared to ALL other streetcars in Toronto. I know its the standard gauge used basically everywhere else in North America but having to purchase and maintain 2 separate fleets of essentially the same vehicles is counter productive
@Humulator3 жыл бұрын
because these are the same vehicles going to other projocts and the others use standard gauge. its much easier for them to use standard

The LRT fleet would be incompatible with the streetcar fleet regardless of the track gauge. They are wider and they can't go around the tight curves of the streetcar network. Streetcars can't run on LRT lines because they only have doors on one side
@anareel45623 жыл бұрын
@@OntarioTrafficMan uhh as far as I know the turning circle of the Flexity and the Flexity are the same... The doors I can see being an issue but I wasn't saying it for vehicle sharing but for vehicle movement from 1 shop to another
@OntarioTrafficMan3 жыл бұрын
@@anareel4562 "As far as I know"? Just look it up. Took me two seconds to find, since this is a really common question. The minimum turning radius is 25m for the LRVs, compared to 11m for the streetcars. They are 2.65m wide, compared to 2.54m. Their maximum grade (slope) is only 6%, compared to 8%. They can't navigate single-point switches (i.e. nearly all switches on the streetcar network). They run on 750 V rather than 600 V. There's absolutely no way the LRVs could run on the current streetcar network, regardless of the track gauge. There's a reason that the TTC had to get such custom-built streetcars.

FINALLY! A more or less COMPLETE video. We're SO eager to have this thing DONE! I've driven by this on the way to work for years and watched the progress...my station/area of interest is the Mount Dennis / Keelesdale bit...I could do without the crappy 'commercial music' sound-track...but, obviously - parts of this were sped up a little so that 'ambient' sounds would not have worked...nevertheless - in future videos - if they are in 'real time' - how about the ambient sounds of the train? Wow.

The fact line 5 not a subway, the cost of the project for no grade separation and all the delays making it the biggest transit feature in Canadian History. Having said that the line will still be useful, particularly all the connections to others lines, but it could have been so much more. Hopefully this serve as lessons for the future. I am not against LRT but overall this project was poorly design. The location was perfect for a subway.

Of course it won't. As this is just a test run, they aren't putting it at full speed, most likely because of the fact that this is the first time they're putting the vehicles on the track. Who knows if there's some non-visible defect in the track that will mess up a train going at full speed. Also, there's workers on the line, and a lot of the signage most likely isn't up yet. In addition, there's also the fact that the line isn't even finished fully. Edit: Oh and, all of the signals are red.

Can you please rename Keelesdale To Keele North Station
Looking good. I do hope once the Eglinton LRT is in service it will run full time & hopefully not have to shut down parts of the line on the weekends & replace with shuttle buses due to track work, etc. I don't about anyone else but I feel sometime in the future the Eglinton LRT will extend west of Mount Dennis to Etobicoke & connect to the Mississauga Transitway Renforth station. That'd be nice too.
@cumhachd4 жыл бұрын
Yup, Metrolinx has already had public meetings about the extension plan. Currently they're showing two elevated stations going west from Mt Dennis over the valley around Jane, then underground all the way to Renforth where it will end at a surface station connecting to the Mississauga busway. They are talking about a future Pearson connection but I don't think that's well-studied yet. See www.infrastructureontario.ca/Eglinton-Crosstown-West-Extension/ Frequent shutdowns happen on the old lines because they are very old and need a lot of modernization, and they are used so much that the little time they can afford to close for repairs doesn't allow for efficient work. They could probably refurbish everything in one go working 24/7 but they'd be fully closed for months. If they'd only known about the pandemic ahead of time it could have been a great opportunity.
