Ego 18” Chainsaw = Part 2 -- How Long Does The Battery Last???

I bought the Ego 18” two years ago and have used it extensively on my 145 acre wooded property. I can cut down and buck up two large birch trees with one 5 amp battery. With two 5 amp batteries I can cut while one is charging and switch with each load. I use it mostly in winter and left it outside overnight. In the morning the chain was frozen but I tried to get it moving but after trying a bunch of times the chainsaw was dead. I took it in for service and Ego gave me a brand new one without a battery or charger. Great chainsaw and really good company to deal with.

I've been milling 12 inch maple with mine recently. I go slow and cycle through 4 different 5ah batteries. I swap them way before they go dead to give them a rest because the task is so hard on the saw.

Thanks, very impressed. I just ordered one of those saws (After much research) yesterday. I was somewhat teetering between that and a Stihl Wood Boss MS251 or similar gas powered saw but since it's just for trimming my peach tree and the occasional storm damage I think the electric is the right choice. Gas engines, especially 2 strokes don't really appreciate sitting in the garage for up to 2 years without running.

I believe what is happening is that the battery is overheating. My CSX5000 behaves the same way.

I’ve had my EGO 18” saw for almost 2 yrs. It is not a replacement for my Stihl 16” gas saw but a quieter, cleaner, easier machine to grab to just trim a limb or cut up downed limbs or small trees. I do use it quite a bit around our 3 acre wooded lot and throw it into the truck when I go to the farm hunting. I also recently purchased a extra battery. Well actually, a 16” saw with battery and charger as it was not much more expensive than just a battery. Replacement or extra battery costs are one big problem with any of this stuff no matter the brand or tool.... i have Ryobi cordless tools around the garage.... lots of them, because sometimes I can buy a drill w/battery/charger cheaper than I can buy a battery....

Hi Mike, I think battery powered is the way to go for occasional sawing, the extra battery keeps you going while the first battery is cooling down. Thanks for the comments .

The battery is overheated way earlier than depleted when put to such torture. You let it cool for 10 minutes and it's good to go again.
