STIHL MSA 300 CHAINSAW. HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST?
In this video, I take the brand new Stihl MSA 300 battery powered chainsaw into the woods to test just how much wood you can saw through on a single battery.
Using the built in smart Connecter of the AP500s battery, I am able to show you an accurate run time of the battery.
I think you will be very surprised by just how much you can get done.
for more detailed specifications check out the link below.

Just a reminder for who ever have the MSA300, last wek I went help a friend cuting oak wood for the fier place we went over in the field with 3 AP500S and 3 AP300S batteries, when back home and place the batteries in the charger he went for cleaning the air filter when placing it back over tight on screw and then it just keep going around and around not thigthing and not comes out either next day I have to go to a Stihl dealer to fix it. thoes screws should not be tight to much.

I’m not a pro but I do have a lot of trees that need attention especially after a storm. I bought the same saw 2 months ago and it’s first job was cutting down a problematic crack willow. I must say I’ve never enjoyed cutting up wood so much! No noise as such, no fumes and release the trigger and it stops. Press the interlock button and then the trigger, ready to go again. I’m a convert as it works really well for me.

A bit off topic but we corresponded about a month ago regarding the HSA 94 hedge trimmer, these seem to be very difficult to purchase locally, following your advice i was looking for the T version, looking at my front hedge i estimate it is 90% holly and not the same as yours. I found a R version, purchased it and i think i made a good choice as the hedge had become quite broad so i set about reducing the width in several passes, the trimmer made the task a breeze. A machine of this quality is a bit of overkill for my level of hedging but it reduces the time needed to do the job so thanks for the advice and apologies for hijacking this thread

Thanks for a nice - typical end user - Review. I still would not consider this a true commercial saw as those guys never slow down - Time is money. However it is the perfect small operations / Ranch saw and has some excellent features not shared by any of the lower priced saws. * I to like that Stihl took the Makita road on Power output regulation. There is no sense wasting full power output on lite work. Note - I did not see an auto output selection(added power under increased load)

I just appreciate they put some decent chain speed on it. I have the new DeWalt 20" saw, and while I love it and it has mountains or torque, its 13.5 m/s chain speed chatters too much when limbing or cutting small branches. This MSA 300 has about 50% higher chain speed on low. It just looks to cut smoother than my DeWalt. Than again that is like comparing a Mercedes to a Ford.

I think you make a good comparison, but not any Ford, a Mustang GT, just keep in mind it can be a Mustang GT with an empty tank of gas. I have 3 Stihl models 161T, 220C and MSA300, the 161T in her class for me is a work horse I have it with a 30cm bar and most time I use an AP200 battery because is light and still give good cutting time, on the 220C normally I use an AP300S battery is not bad, the MSA300 is a joy powerful machine bat even the bigger battery the AP500 and I have 3 if used in full power the battery not last long, hope Stihl come up with a battery that can really meet this saw.

As a professional, i can say the ego is better for most people. We have used the stihl however the cost of the unit is way too high. Also the quality of the 18 inch ego is just as good. Finally, when ego also has a much larger range of battery powered tools, in particular their 16 inch line trimmer which is the gold standard .

I’ve used STIHL gear for many years. Every time they bring out something new I hope they’ve decided to put a replaceable plastic foot of some sort on the bottom. But no. I know they are workers tools not for looking at but because of where they’re used they go from brand new to scratched and old looking in about a week. Nice saw. I’ve got one on my list and have been getting used to the KM135 with a couple of 500 batteries.

@@sirvozelo1 in the video, I did very clearly say that the AP500s Battery is required for the MSA 300 to reach full power. Battery technology is improving all the time, it’s inevitable that we are going to reach milestones where older model batteries are not going to give the new machines the power they need. This in no way leaves the older batteries obsolete, as they can still be used in a wide range of machines. I find it quite impressive just how far battery technology has advanced in the last 10years. I am sure the next 10 years will see some cool advancements. 😀

A great saw I have one, also i have the Trimmer 135, the saws 220C, 161T and GTA 26. The only problem I find in this saw and I have it wit a 16" and 18" bars is even the AP500S battery if running in full power not last long before need recharge, feels kind a Mustang GT with an empty tank of gas. The saw it self is a joy powerful machine and I did have putting it to the test. Hope sooner stihl can improve the batteries. Same also go for the Trimmer 135 and the GTA26. The one feels more I may say balanced is the 161T i may cut twice as long with one AP200 on the 161T then i do with AP500S on the MSA300 or on the Trimmer 135.

I have all batteries from AP200 to AP500S, but normally on the 161T I use the AP200 because is light and at same time or at least I have the impression that when the battery finish also the bar oil finish wile if I go with big battery I need pay more attention to the bar oil. The MSA300 is way more powerful than 220C normally when I am cutting fire wood I take the 3 and according to the thickens of the tree I chose the machine. the 220C is lighter but less power and not feels as professional as the MSA300. I also have the Trimmer 135 and same as the saw 161T I have went over manufacture use recommendation works wonderful. When I buy the 220C the MSA300 was not available now in my case I can say that with MSA300 and the 161T I with be served however the 220C is convenient to for more smaller logs because is lighter.

Interesting video :) It looks like a good saw, but I just don't understand its position in the market with a >£300 battery that lasts less than 20mins (6 or 7 charges to do 2 hours of cutting - 55mins per charge with Stihl's fastest charger!). As much as I love Stihl products (petrol), it seems rather gimmicky to advertise this as "designed for demanding professional use". I can't remember which model, but around 7 years ago a company I worked for bought electric Stihl saws to trial. They were great, until 8.30am, then it was petrol saws for the rest of the day. 🤣

That is so amazing for say some normal person slowly clearing their land or building a log cabin over an entire summer, at a slower pace. Buy an extra battery and boom. Bye bye fumes🎉

I hear ya! I still love running my 500i! BUT These battery saws definitely have their place. Especially in noise sensitive areas. Thank you for watching

My tests, comparing battery and petrol chainsaws has me concluding that 1kg of battery equals 2 liters of petrol. I can work longer with my Husqvarna 540i between «pit stops» than i do with my ms201, using the lagrest batteries. In fact i carry a small oil flask in my belt, so i can use the whole battery between stops. The battery pays for itself over time, so i see it as «buing fuel in bulk»

I am not so sure about that, I have the Stihl 161T, 220C and MSA300 with an 18" bar witch on oak logs using about 80% of the bar in no more then 15 minutes I am out of the AP500 BATTERY. The AP500 weights 2Kg I with never cut as much as I with do with 4 liters of petrol.

And when you add the fact there are no fumes and less noise, the battery saws bring some great benefits. Although I do like the way the 500i sounds 😀 Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment 👍

@@TheFullyChargedGardener I kind think like you before and I use to have 3 gas power saws, but then after I buy the first battery power one and got used to I end up sailing two gas power just keep one as a memory. However yes the battery ones have a disadvantage because the batteries don't last long and if you are not near a place to recharge is a problem.

@@sirvozelo1 The battery saws definitely have their limitations, which is why I still have my 500i for the bigger jobs. But this MSA 300 will definitely be getting plenty of use around the Estate here 😀

@@sirvozelo1 Doesn't he show 17 minutes run time there...with one large tree cut up which seems to me more like one chainsaw tank-ful of petrol in a mid-size saw and not 2L. 2L runs a gas saw for a long time. Batteries are $500 cdn each, saw will be over $1000. It's impressive but too expensive yet for most applications. The arborist saws up a tree are a different scenario where the instant on-off of electric is such an advantage.
