They need to make more bike handle designed trimmers this loop design twists my back all up.

I bought the ST1623t model last year. Its very effective and useful for me. I wished though, I should have bought the multi tool model.

I still don’t know if the multi tool trimmer performs as well as the stand-alone ego trimmer. This was a very poor video review for this product. I’m in the process of deciding between this and the dedicated trimmer. I guess I’ll keep looking for a head-to-head review.

The brought powerload to the multi-head line so suspect the next generation will have line IQ
@rkgsd11 ай бұрын
Then there's the MST1501 without Powerload, has a metal shaft, 15" cut and 5.0ah battery for a slightly lower price. Not sure which is newer or better, but I'm assuming you can't put an Echo Speed Feed spool on a Powerload model.

I love the trimmer BUT I have been cleaning it for two years by spraying the head with water. DONT do this Suddenly the power feed button stopped working. I carefully took the button apart and discovered that it had rusted out all of the moving parts

I have the ST 1520 which i bought in 2020. it is ok but i don't love it. It is a bit heavy and I don't like the powerload head whish often doesn't work well. It is difficult to load the string through the eyelets. Easy to get it in the first one but not the second. Pretty often the powerload system doesn't wind up the line tight enough into the head. The poweine system needs to be re-engineered. It isn't ready for prime time.
@rkgsd11 ай бұрын
Precisely why I'm looking at the MST1501 with a regular spool you wind by hand. Many people have mentioned issues with Powerload and especially Line IQ. Nice when they work, but more to go wrong.

I have an Ego mower, string trimmer, blower, power head/edger, and hedge trimmer. All of them are at the low end of the lineup, but I only have 3000sf of lawn and it's pretty flat with no real obstructions. With that said, I really wish Ego would stop pushing their high end even higher and, instead, fill the holes in the lineup. They have something like 13 walk behind mowers, 7 string trimmers, and 10 blowers listed on their website. What they don't list are any sprayers, dethatchers, reel mowers, or a power head that's compatible with non-Ego attachments (among others). I bought my Ego stuff when I had a bigger lawn. Even at the lower end, the Ego stuff is overkill for my 3000sf. If I had to do it over, I would probably have gone with the 40v Skil or 40v Ryobi lines. I would have saved a bunch of money and both have a power head that's more universal.

I think it seems exclusive to the American market with the real low end stuff as in Australia it seems to start from your mid range up. We only have a few to choose from all with a 5 year warranty.

Nice trimmer, but I don’t see myself parting with my ST1623T any time soon.

Never seen the carbon shaft, only have the aluminum shaft available here. Also the attachments are commonly more (and stupidly) expensive than a whole machine as the whole machines are often on special and the attachments for the multi-tool are not/never are. I actually regret buying this multi-tool for this very reason. Plus such limited sizing options etc available vs dedicated ego machines.

How does it feed more string when the string breaks?
@joshuabush2569 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't...this is powerload only.
@TomsPropertyCare Жыл бұрын
Glad it's not a line IQ system. We run both power load and IQ commercially and the IQ system waits till the line is about 1-3" away from the head before feeding it back to it's 15" swatch and won't load continuously. Super annoying if the lines say 12" and still refuses to try and load more line. Prefer powerload by a mile.

It's a bump head for string feed.
@DoresoomReviews3 ай бұрын
It's a regular bump feed. But the head does have a new free spinning plastic plate on it that makes contact with the ground and helps keep the head from wearing down.

I'll never buy another ego product. I currently have the mower and the string trimmer. My trimmer is the ST1510T. The auto feed functionality stopped working about halfway through the first year and I had to take the head apart , lube it and put it back on. That lasted about 4 uses and now it only feeds one side of the trimmer. Went online to get a head replacement and they no longer provide the head for the 1510T. As for the mower it was great for about 2 years and then the battery stopped fully charging. The cost of the replacement battery ( $380) is about a third of what I paid for the mower initially. So it's like having to buy a new mower every 6 years. My last gas mower lasted for 12 years. Love the idea of battery operated equipment but I am very displeased with my EGO experience.

I've had my own problems as an early adopter. Their Line-IQ feature is a tragic mistake. The user is left waiting for the more string half the time. But this multi-head trimmer is extremely powerful. EGO seems to be innovating by the annual calendar schedule, not for what users need. This trimmer is a winner in the lineup.

@daverozic Жыл бұрын
The st1623 is a stand alone trimmer unit, not multitool compatible.
@rkgsd10 ай бұрын
The ST1623 adds automatic line feed aka Line IQ. It does accept attachments. The motor is down below instead of in the back.
