Belly dancing is huge in Egyptian culture, and as ubiquitous as the pyramids. Some say it dates back to the pharaohs. It reached its peak in the 1940s, when Cairo was a place of free thought, art, and pleasure.

I danced in Egypt for years under contract in five star hotels and resorts as an in house dancer and never had a problem . I respected their customs and left my independent American attitude at home. I made sure my costumes never crossed the line into bad taste and I presented artistic and elegant shows. I love Egypt and the Egyptian people. The management treated me great.

They probably make a distinction between a professional dancer who works in specific venues like hotels and night clubs and a university professor. They obviously think that a university professor has to keep a "serious" profile or whatever. Which is nuts. The woman was having innocent fun in her own home, dressed in a modest kaftan.

Samir Sabry, the 'censor' is actually 'THE SENSER' ! He has arousal issues and assumes that everyone else has it too ! The dance is beautiful ! She's a good dancer ! She's a role model showing people how the human body is capable of moving !

the translation at 18:20 is incorrect. He did not say that his dancers are in fact prostitutes. He said that assumption does not bother him because his dancers are licensed and are practicing within government guidelines. He said if they were doing something wrong the government would not endorse them or accept their paperwork qualifying them as dancers. He also mentioned famous dancers of the past and said his dancers are continuing a tradition.

A dance police? They have bigger fish to fry in their country. Poverty, sanitation, human rights healthcare infrastructure, but they are policing dancers.

This man spends his days trawling videos of belly dancers and if he gets turned on he initiates charges against them..🤔 For a country that many believe is the birthplace of civilisation, this is a most uncivilised practice.

Shame it's being hidden behind closed doors as it's so embedded in Egypt's wonderful culture. I'd love to visit Egypt and that seems like one of the stereotypical things you would see as a tourist along with the pyramids and the museums. While I get it's cultural and artistic, it's also about prurient interest and fertility/sexuality to some degree, no? As far as morality, I don't want anyone protecting me from myself. I'm a grown man and it's up to me to control myself. Women shouldn't be forced to cater to my lack of control. Teach young man to master themselves and there's no need for such draconian laws. Dancing isn't immoral nor are the women who do it. Any man who can't control himself and acts out because of it is immoral. If you enact laws because you can't control yourself, you are giving up your own agency as a person, a man. Instead of prohibiting others, govern yourself better.

I will agree that the video with Gazal isn't really that artistic since it mostly just shows her shaking her upper chest and hips and nothing else, but I wouldn't file a lawsuit against her. I can't believe conservatives in Egypt want to get rid of their own heritage!

😀i love the culture of the bellydance only when the woman is not pressured to preform. Dance should be free and reflect the dancers inner beauty of the dancer and Bellydancing reflects that beauty. 😝a woman can't be controlled men should learn to work with the life bearers.🙏 thanks for the ad free viewing it show you respect your viewers, 🙏

It does not matter what people say or what the goverment says. But it does matter what God says. God says that men and wome should dress modestly and cover their bodies. Period. And I say this as an European convert to Islam!
