thats just in Khan el Khalil because you are sort of expected to haggle there. In normal places around Cairo, its pretty much the same as EU. You can buy souvenirs and stuff in other places, but it doesnt have the same feel as getting it from Khan el Khalil

I usually try to only carry a small amount of money that I think I’m going to need ahead of time in the large pocket of my wallet and I divide the rest into small groups and put that into the different hidden sleeves just so that I never show too much at a glance. People always seem to check how much you have in there whether you’re in the US or in a foreign country. Don’t know if this applies to your travels but after that desert situation it might be something to try out. Stay safe out there!

Im half egyptian half dutch so im pretty often in egypt and from my experience is tourism a way too valuable income source so whenever any tourist gets in some trouble with a local there are always other locals or policemen interfering to make sure that nothing will happen to the tourist because if those things happen alot less tourists will come and because of that the economy will get worse so you shouldn’t be scared of something like that because there will always be people around that will instantly help
