I just finished a late breakfast of foul madamas. Was introduced by an old boyfriend who’s from Cairo. I keep cans off fava in my cupboard. A favorite, easy to prepare, breakfast. Fresh lemon is key..in my book..squeezed on top of of the finished product. I use whatever herbs I have growing on the window sill along with a lot of garlic and EV olive oil. I keep pita in the freezer for just such an occasion. Yummm. So many recipes of great dishes that start with fava beans though they’re unavailable at the grocery store in Tennessee. Instead I order online with a subscription. I’m sure dried would be better but too much time & trouble. (The best ones, if from a can; are the small ones.) As my Irish mother might have described it as a ‘stick to your ribs’ kind of breakfast.

I'll be visiting Egypt in October 2024; therefore your videos are coming handy. Thank you for providing them for us. One question: Although food looks very tasty have you ever got sick from the food sold by the street vendors? If you get sick where do you go for medicine/treatment?
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
I have actually never gotten sick from the street vendors, although I know some foreigners visiting have. But then again, I also know tourists who have gotten sick from nice restaurants. I, in fact, have only gotten food poisoning one time here in Egypt, and it was from ordering Domino's Pizza 🤣 But I have eaten Domino's other times and not gotten sick. It is always a bit of a gamble, you never know where or what will make you sick, haha. Thankfully, there are pharmacies that sell ALL kinds of medication that can help you with that. They are very cheap, and no prescription is needed. Thank you for watching mahmutlevent, I hope this helps, and welcome to the channel, and Egypt! 🥰

Great video , how safe is it to eat street food in Egypt ? We will be in Egypt on 26th of Nov and just afraid of getting food poisoning 😅
@Gventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Honestly, no idea how to answer that. I've never gotten food poisoning from eating the food in Egypt, but I have met other foreigners who have. Do you have a delicate stomach? I eat with reckless abandon when I travel, I love eating street food and accept the fact I may get sick while doing so sometimes. I have not once gotten sick from eating in Egypt, but like I said I met quite a few other people who claimed they were sick from eating street food here. I also ate whatever I wanted in India while I was backpacking for 3 months, and only got sick once. So maybe I have a strong stomach or have built up that tolerance over time, I dunno. I think it's going to depend on where you are from, what you are used to eating, if you typically eat a lot of street food or food exposed to the elements, etc. As a rule of thumb I also usually try to eat at busy food carts, that way I know the food is fresh because there is a high turnover. If the cart has no customers, the food is just sitting there and flies are buzzing around, maybe skip it.

You were unlucky to try our fava beans at that cart. That guy isn't the best to serve fava beans downtown, adding that he is well-known of his bad behaviour and attitude. At 7:13 he insulted the old man for being somewhat poor. The worst seller to deal with customers let alone to be a front before tourists
@Gventures Жыл бұрын
A lot is wrong with this comment. First of all, I know this man and his cart and have been here many times, I decided to film on this day, but I like his foul and he is very popular for a reason. I live in Cairo and have had foul all over the city and country, I can say his foul is very good. At 7:13 he did not insult the man because he was poor, he asked if he was stupid because he asked him several times if he wanted a bag and the guy wasn't answering clearly. I am not saying it was right or polite to yell at the man but he did not yell at him because he was poor, so don't lie.
@YasserMuhammad-bg8iv Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply! I'm terribly sorry that you aren't aware of the Egyptian culture as what happened from that guy's end towards the old man is utterly and explicitly a bad behaviour. You can consult any Egyptian persons on that part of your video and you will receive the same comment I previously added. In regards to trying the Foul carts, I'm sorry to say I have never seen you trying other, extremely famous, and more delicious Foul suppliers such as Foul Waheed and Sa'd El-Haramy. By the way, it is improper to tell that I was lying when it comes to such a topic as you aren't full aware of what is happening around as I, by my turn, can say that you are lying in favour of that person for unknown reasons. But, my religion and morals forbade me.@@Gventures

@@YasserMuhammad-bg8iv 🤣I am with my Egyptian friend in this video who informs me of many things (as does my bf who is Egyptian and all my friends in Egypt-I've been living in Egypt for 2 years now), don't try to pull the "you aren't aware of Egyptian culture" card simply because I am a foreigner. I didn't say it was good behavior, I said he didn't act that way because "he was somewhat poor" as you claim. I don't need to consult Egyptians because I am WITH an Egyptian when I film this video, and I will say again I live in Egypt, all my friends are Egyptian and so is my bf. Just because I don't make a video about me trying other foul carts does not mean I am not eating at other places. My God, do you think I have only eaten foul one time, do you think I make a video about every single day and every single time I eat? 😆 It is not improper to say you are lying when the foul cart vendor clearly did not insult the man "for being poor." Yes he insulted him, but not for the reasons you say, so that is a falsehood and a lie. You can imagine whatever you would like, it is clear in the video to anyone that speaks Arabic that is not what he said, and what you are saying does not even make sense. How can I lie when everything is clearly shown in the video? I could have cut that part out, edited the video and not shown that. I am a very transparent and honest person and show my whole experiences, and the proof is there in this video. But nice try 😆
@YasserMuhammad-bg8iv Жыл бұрын
Utterly misleading and misguiding response. It doesn't even worth replying as I told you aren't aware of our culture and you just proved it by telling that you are getting you impression from 2 other persons who transfer their own understanding, which is explicitly ill. In lieu of denouncing that ill-behaved person's behaviour, you are trying your best to justify it, what a pity! You aren't honest at all! You are just and normally confirming that it, I can't say "he", insulted an old man but not because he was poor. Do you even listen to yourself?!!! Kindly spare me your goofy response.
