He didn't "destroy" Bassem at all, he didn't even address a single one of Bassem's points. He made some terrible comparisons based on silly puns that are in no way similar to Bassem Youssef condemning the Likud government for their approach to dealing with Hamas. They could have used teams of infantry to clear buildings, shooting and capturing the Hamas militants while sparing as many civilian lives as possible. The Likud regime didn't decide to do that because they wanted vengeance against the Palestinian people as a whole. Netanyahu didn't really even bother to hide this fact, he said, and I quote, "Remember what Amalek has done to you" in reference to the Palestinians. If you know the Bible, you know that Yahweh, god of Israel, orders the Israelites to slaughter every single last one of the Amalekites. Netanyahu and the Likudniks have not at all hidden their plan to drive the Palestinians out of Gaza, intending for them to flee to Europe with the help of international aid NGOs. That is the very definition of ethnic cleansing under the UN's terms. How can anyone possibly genuinely believe the notion that Bassem Youssef is anti-Semitic for disagreeing with the ruthless response the Likud government has had to the October 7th attacks in which they have indiscriminately targeted the people of Gaza, even including aid workers from around the world (American and British citizens have been killed by the IDF in Gaza, did you know that?), as a form of collective punishment for the actions of a few hundred Hamas members? Like that's not a rhetorical question, I actually want to know how you can believe that tripe. I mean, Saad's thesis is that Youssef is a self-hating Semite because he is appalled by the fact that over 20,000 people, almost all of whom happened to be Semites, died being crushed by rubble and being blown to bits as the IDF dropped aerial bombs, launched missiles, and shelled the buildings of Gaza with no concern for the occupants that aren't associated with Hamas. Youssef has never said that has is pro-Hamas, nor has he expressed any desire for the state of Israel to cease to exist. He favors a two-state solution, if I recall correctly. If Saad's position is the morally upright one, why does he have to lie about his opponents so flagrantly?

I heard this damn stupid arguments many times. My opinion is that people that just try to confuse you with wordplay are not to be taken seriously. Clearly, words are defined by their usage and not by their etymology alone. If shrimps are related to spiders, can I be arachnophobic even if I am not afraid of shrimps? Sure. I heard Bassem Youssef before. He can be funny actually. I think he became something of a celebrity when he was invited by Piers Morgan and other channels in social media to criticize the Cleopatra Netflix show. He became the instant hero of the culture wars because he was an Egyptian oppenly opposing the, from an historically perspective, low quality documentary. He is also married to someone of Palestinian origin. It is not that he is not allowed to have an oppinion, but he is, off course, highly biased. Personally, I don't have much time for people who do not seem to condemn Hamas and the massacre, which was what really started this whole mess.

Every interview I watch with Bassem has me trying to understand what he is for. He's great at making the satirical jokes, but dodges actually telling us any real substance as to why he hates Jews or if he supports the pursuit of a caliphate, expansion of Islam, etc. He's just a clever liar or refuses to simply tell us what he really believes.
