What is air taxi?
Now we don't need to imagine , we can see it, we can experience it by EHang Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (AAV).
As crowds are pouring into the city, life speeds up, traffic gets denser, and urbanization is close to collapse. We can see more and more roads, tunnels, bridges, still don't solve the problem.
The electrical, vertical takeoff and landing (eVTL), autopilot air taxi could be the best solution. People name it "air taxi", "drone taxi", "flying taxi", etc.
That's why varies magnates start to invest in this industry, to be exact, it is Urban Air Mobility industry, which is an emerging aspect of air transportation for human and goods in the near future. A new Blue Paper from Morgan Stanley Research projected a total addressable market of $1.5 trillion for autonomous aircraft by 2040.
EHang AAV (Autonomous Aerial Vehicle) made a big step for the whole Urban Air Mobility industry by carrying up to 17 people in Vienna, April 4th, 2019.
At CES 2016, EHang officially launched the world’s very first electric AAV for low-airspace short-distance air transportation. With the core concepts of autopilot, full redundancy safety design and cluster management by intelligent command and control center, pilots are no longer necessary for a flight, while passengers only need to click the “take-off” button to fly to the selected destination. EHang will provide every passenger a truly enjoyable journey by the safe and intelligent autopilot system.
In February, 2018, EHang has unveiled footage of the latest test flights of EHang AAV in Guangzhou, China. Since then, EHang AAV conducted an array of flight demonstrations in Amsterdam, Doha, Vienna.
EHang is a world's leading autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) technology platform company based in Guangzhou, China.

I was so impressed with the the journey you took from THE AAV hub Guangzhau an has demonstrated the reality of a new form of sustainable transport both for short range taxi service within areas where congestion is becoming increasingly problematic in major cities. This in my opinion is a real world solution that is using technology that is available in construction via 3d printing plus the creative adaptation of drone design and making a cost effective transportation system that has the type of "green credentials" that put it at the forefront of modern passenger transport. Congratulations J.

Thanks for sharing this video. How do you respond to the recent Japanese flying car "SkyDrive?" Is the technology different between EHang 184 and SkyDrive flying car? Also if there is a "bird strike" while flying, is there any "backup plan" (e.g. Airframe Parachute System - CAPS, in Cirrus SR22 etc.) to save the driver/passenger? Thanks!

Cut the crap, lets be real relatively basic knowledge man. Every nation’s corporations copy to stay current but the Chinese have basically made it an art form by buying whole companies and just straight up stealing technology. They have come up with very little on their own.

Yes, it's great and it flies, but those blades are at waist and leg height and they're going to kill someone. Why didn't they put the blades up high above head height? There is no way this could pass a basic user safety test.

Not getting in one of these without a parachute, sorry. A fresh concept, but unless you have at least 4 parachutes for redundancy's (even one like you get in a fighter jet) in case of an emergency, it is just not safe.
@WilliamJones-Halibut-vq1fs
@WilliamJones-Halibut-vq1fs 5 жыл бұрын
One parachute should be enough. Extracted by rocket and instantly inflated by a an explosive charge in the same manner as an ejection seat parachute.

@shawnbutts2403 5 жыл бұрын
William Jones-Halibut but then you lose the drone, hence why you need one first for the drone, then the other as a backup. The government can afford to lose a jet, consumers can’t.
@WilliamJones-Halibut-vq1fs
@WilliamJones-Halibut-vq1fs 5 жыл бұрын
@@shawnbutts2403Suggest you watch this video which is about CAPS the parachute recovery system on Sirus aircraft. The focus should be entirely on saving life. If you can get a second parachute in there fine but I think the complexity may even reduce safety Id rather have the weight used for extra redundancy or battery power to prevent the need for deploying a parachute in the first place. Unless you are lucky enough to land in an open field you should assume a right of. At minium the undercarriage should collapse to absorb the impact and then require replacement. Volocopter already have a parachute system that is working.

William Jones-Halibut good points; I think that adding foam below so it floats in water after impact would be also inline too. Thanks for the tip; will give it a gander.

It looks very cool, but with so little height and the small blades, if there is a system failure, you’re too low for a parachute to save you and the rotors are too small for you to autorotate down to safety.

The total area of the propellers begins to equal a regular helicopter rotor. Therefore the design only makes sense if you shroud the propellers. That’s besides the fact that the way the open props are situated it’s a disaster in waiting. One wrong move and we’re talking severed legs, arms and heads. Oh and also besides the fact that the way Chinese make things this contraption is about as reliable as a Chinese made toaster. Life is not that valuable in Asia and in particular in China. That’s why they don’t pay a lot of attention to safety and quality of products. If somebody dies in a 1.2 billion populated China that’s just one person less to take up the air and space. So they don’t care. Therefore flying in this thing is like playing Russian roulette...

This oversized hobby grade drone is the most silly thing I ever saw. Only in China would the authorities allow human flight. It is a know fact that the motors used on this thing are hobby grade (for toys) and not aerospace products. Also, the design is flawed from the start. Anyone standing close during takeoff or landing will be chopped to pieces. A piece of crap.
