Bought one 3 hrs ago and watched my angels immediately hide in beside the filter where there was less flow, little adjustment and they're back in tank central Now after a week using this filter after constant issues with last one(ciano CF80) my tank is crystal clear, this is a top filter for a 80 to 200lt tank, water looks almost drinkable 🤣

I just got the pick up 60 with the air tube. I run it along side my juwel filter which also has the air tube in my 70 litre tank. I have uprated the juwel to the next one up and have it mainly running ceramic gravel with a course sponge. I’m hoping with the eheim running alongside it will do more of the mechanical side of things. It’s already got lots of poop in it and only been running a couple hours.

Hey Daniel, which one of the Eheim Pickup models do you reccomend for a 60L aquarium? And also, do the suction cups last for a long while? My Juwel internal filter's suction cups only lasted for like 2 months
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 4 жыл бұрын
If it were me I'd be going for the 45 which might sound odd but I've run 45s on 60L tanks. You do have to maintain them more regularly, I did mine weekly but it only takes a minute or two to squeeze the sponge out in some tank water. The reason I prefer to do that is I found the 60 too powerful for tanks that size. For some fish that's fine but if you have fish, plants, etc that are likely to struggle with more powerful water movement then I feel like the 45 is the better option. I've found the suction cups last a bit longer if they are cleaned regularly. Also make sure the area of the glass they attach too is kept clean and free from algae, biofilm, etc. A wee trick to regenerate suction cups is to clean them then leave them in a little bit of boiling water for a few minutes. Alternatively you can always order spares. Hope that helps.

@@cawkss8873 no worries. Just my opinion of course. I'm sure others will have different opinions too but as I said I have run these on 60L tanks and have found the 45s have been the better choice for me as long as I'm not over stocking, feeding sensibly and keeping on top of my maintenance. Take care bud.

@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish Жыл бұрын
Plenty powerful. I don't think you'll need the step up for that size tank. If anything you'll need to point the output towards the glass to dissipate some of the current if you have fish like Guppies that would appreciate less water movement.

Hi! I’ve recently purchased a 75l aquarium with a noisy pump. I watched your videos, because I was looking for a quiet pump, and ended up getting the Eheim Pickup 160, because it said 60-160l. But it just seems way too strong for the aquarium! I don’t have fish in it yet, but i used to have a 200l juwel aquarium, which didn’t have such a strong ‘flow’, so this seems off. Would you recommend getting the Eheim pickup 60 instead? And I honestly don’t think that the Eheim pickup 160 is quiet enough, so I’m a bit unsure about buying the Eheim 60. It IS quiet, but I live in a small apartment with one room, so it still bothers me when I sleep. The juwel aquarium I used to have was dead quiet. I really miss that. So maybe I should get a whole other pump..? What would you recommend? And thank you so so much for your videos. They’re really helpful!

Ah thank you very much for your comment there, that's very kind. I think it's very difficult to build a completely silent filter in this class but Fluval's U series are very popular. They work really well and are very quiet. They use filter cartrides as standard which I don't like to keep buying so I tend to use the ones that come with them then buy a second set of the sponges that fit them and just double up on them. I'm sure I did a video for someone looking at how loud/quiet they are. I've linked it at the bottom of this comment for you. Might be a nice option for you to consider. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3K1eIqlqdB7g9U

It may depend what part of the world you are in. I'm in the UK so I have a UK plug which you can easily find a converting adapter for if you are in Europe for the European plugs. You can pick them up most places that sell holiday accessories. Folk in the US have said they have struggled to get these filters but if you can find one I hopefully it would have the correct plug or again you can find an adapter.

Hi, is this ok to be the only filter on a 60l tank? And when it comes to filter media, can I add some ceramics in as well or should it be only sponge inside... I'm just starting my first tank so I need all the help... 😅 Thanks
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 4 жыл бұрын
So these come in different sizes. The 60 is rated for tanks up to 60 litres which is probably the one for you. The next size up is the 160 which would probably be too much. Some people cut some of the sponge out and add small sized bio media. Personally if you're not going to overstock I'd say leave it as it is. The sponge will act as mechanical filtration but also as biological too. The benificial bacteria that breaks down ammonia and nitrite will eventually colonise the sponge and every other surface in the tank too. Cycle the tank, add fish slowly, keep checking the water conditions if you're able (a lot of stores will test your water for you if you don't have a test kit yourself) and this filter should do you proud. I'm a big fan of them. I hope that is helpful and welcome to the hobby!

Hi, my son's got a 45 and there's is flow but no bubbles with it position about 1cm below the water surface, my other sons 160 produces lots of bubbles in his tank though, what could be causing this? I noticed in one of your videos you show the 45 belting out bubbles being submerged.
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 4 жыл бұрын
Okay so first I would make sure the dial on the venturi clip is set to open. Sounds obvious but sometimes it's the obvious things we miss. Next I would turn the filter off and raise the top section up out of the water, just enough to lift the top section off. I would open the lid section letting any water out. I'd make sure it has no water in the air tube and maybe even give it a light blow to make sure. Make sure all the filter is then put together securely (keeping the filter under the water while you do it except the lid part). Remember it comes apart at the top and bottom of the green section. Everything needs to be together properly. Then I'd replace the lid section, still out of the water, turn the filter on and lower it very slowly into position. Remember as soon as you switch it on water will be propelled out so don't have it pointed where water can shoot out where you don't want it to go. Also check the tubing is fitting tightly to the filter and venturi clip. If it is loose it may suck in water instead of air. Hopefully that will solve it for you. Sometimes it's about tinkering with them a little bit. Really hope that helps and your son can enjoy the bubbles.
3 жыл бұрын
The 45 doesnt have a venturi, we just bought the 60 to replace the 45 in our 60 litre aquarium! (Yeah, we got the aquarium with this pump... and it does work but gets clogged right away...) Our 45 has no bubbles, but it works if you put it close to the surface for our tank.

Hello, what setting for maximum air? and not to much current
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 4 жыл бұрын
To reduce the current a little you would lift the top part up. The water will still flow at the same rate but the directional flow won't be as concentrated. You can also turn it back on itself or into the corner of the tank to spread the flow out so it's not so concentrated in one direction. For the air there is a dial on the top of the venturi clip which you turn. It does effect the amount of air a little but not a staggering amount.

Hi, Daniel, I have a problem with my Pickup 60 in that the venturi rarely works. When it does work it works well. I have checked the little pipe for blockages and that the adjuster was open but nothing makes any difference. Any ideas? EDIT: I have spent a lot of time with this filter today to try and master this venturi problem. I looked at how this problem had been reported by any brand of filter. The venturi principle is so basic. Cleaning the filter made no difference. I finally, (with the filter running) took the black valve off and blew into the pipe. That is all it took, I put the valve back on and it just worked. All I can think of it it is subject to getting an air lock in the venturi pipe.
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 6 жыл бұрын
I've been playing with this past couple of days to have a look Robert. Seems to me if it has been submerged when you start it the bubbles don't flow through. So if the pipe is attached and the filter is lowered in to the water it's fine. I messed about with making a video response for you but it's far from an exact science so I don't want to confuse folk. I don't really feel like it's a great answer for you either sorry but I think that's due to the nature of the issue does that make sense.
@The_Robert.Fletcher

Half submerged bud. I wouldn't suggest running it dry. If you put it half in and attach it to the tank, turn it on then lower it the rest of the way is should be fine. At least from what I'm doing here it seems to work. Hope that solves it for you bud.

There is no way to alter the flow rate on the filter itself. The three things I could suggest are: 1. Trade it in for a smaller model more suited to your tank. 2. Aim the flow at the back/side/corner of your tank so some of the current is dispersed against the glass. 3. Secure some aquarium sponge around the return spout. This will definitely help.
