Anytime you post a new video it's much appreciated. I have 4 disk autofused in my lower back. And 2 in my neck I still do for myself just nonstop pain I can't work anymore so I have my knives. You Sir are an inspiration to me personally.I just felt I should thank you. And you have great taste in cutlery.

Very illuminating Eric, and good to see you back on form. I still have the PK70 you recommended I buy (when there were still a few available), and it has saved me a lot of money. When yet another modern slipjoint winks at me, I take a look at my PK70 and say "nobody can make one as good as this" (and so I just get another GEC instead...)

That's truly a fine run down of what I would call modern folders! No doubt some of most beautiful I've seen in this open tag. A I tend to agree with you about "Modern Slipjoints." I think it takes more than just modern materials. Knife companies have been using Modern Materials forever. The thing is, at one time chrome plated steel, later stainless steel was "modern" Same with celluloid, then later, delrin, etc. Same with different locking systems. The latest changes in the last 50+ years is probably using screws for easy disassembly and to adjust the blade pivot, the regular use of pocket clips, one handed opening with out the use of push button. About the Italian method of "Crowning" That also sounds like the modern way to do, especially if the knife can be taken apart. Because it seems to me that if the knife spine has been machined smooth then any attempt at adjusting the pivot or taking the knife apart has a chance of the parts no longer being flushed when you put it back apart. When it comes to modern slip joint, I also feel it should have screws instead of pins, a pocket clip (yuck), and a "stop pin" to prevent blade rap. I would also expect to see them using modern steels as well as modern thermal plastics. I think there are many modern slipjoints are just posers. I wish Spyderco would just come out with a slipjoint version of the Dragonfly. Again. Great run down of fine knives.

I am glad you are up to doing this Slicky. Great presentation but if it’s all the same I am sticking with wood, rivets, belly and carbon (preferably 1095)👍

So excited to see you posting something for this open tag. I knew you’d have some absolute gems to show! And couldn’t agree with you more, the QSP Hedgehog is a brilliant knife for so many reasons! Plus slip-joints with the half-stops that are over 90degrees when opening, harder to close than open or even a finger choil just add so much confidence when in use. That JE Made Lannys Clip is just 😍 Thank you for sharing 😁

I like that Bexar, Wonder if that double nailnick is just a design feature cuz they are known for milling might just be a Tactile trademark. Awesome to you and your channel man!! Did a Few Smudge offerings where i said your name aloud. Have a good weekend !!

Those are some fine examples of modern slipjoints! My current favourite is the Lionsteel Jack. Despite the knives, I'm more happy to see you're doing okay. I always hope your condition improves. Take care, sir. Cheers!

Good to have you back Slick! Razor That’s what I was going to say The Bexar has a nice look to it but I agree that it needs a thumb stud or something to facilitate opening Moreover there are a million cheap knives like it with lesser steel I like that third one a lot And I am wrestling with buying myself a Spyderco since I finally broke down and bought my granddaughter a Delica for her birthday Don’t have to Proper but I do have the Fox Nauta which is almost the same except for the 420HC steel I really want a Lannys Clip at some point and I am not spending $300 on an overseas copy of it just my opinion and money talking and to each of you hold your own opinion and spend your own money and we will all be friends And btw I do think those overseas knives are beautiful As always Slick I am in awe of your ability to acquire the finest of knives of every type and only hope to keep in the chase myself I pray for your recovery and good health I had a decent endoscopy report today after my chemo and radiation treatment for esophageal cancer It showed nearly total destruction of the tumor so now I wait to hear what the tumor board recommends about treating the rest God bless you and yours and our dear friend Rick Warthogg

Great video with good examples. I must say the most disappointing knife I’ve ever received was the Bexar. The flaws in construction are just unforgivable for the price. I sent it straight back. I watched so many positive reviews before purchasing. Glad you review with integrity and say what you actually think without bias for brand. Wishing you good health.

Modern Slip Joint knives have of yet breached the single blade models to multiple blade models. I believe that is something I would like to see. I have not noticed any modern designs with more than one blade. The most improvement is modern handle and steel upgrades. Basically, they are Case Sod Busters made with screws, with different types of handles and blades with scary prices. I don’t see the reason they cost so much being made by robots by the thousands in China.🤔⁉

The Cold Steel Lucky is a multi bladed modern slipjoint. It has a plain blade and a serrated blade, CPM S35VN steel and carbon fiber handles, pocket clip and made in Italy. I quite like mine. It's not the newest model (released in 2015?) compared to the models from the most recent wave of popularity, but I haven't seen many others doing something similar. (Edit: I remembered that Lionsteel make some multi blade models eg Barlow Warhorse and Bestman)

@@s.h.v.c2865 If a slip joint manufacturer that makes multiple blade knives already, it is easier for them to make one. It is interesting to see the designs that are trying to improve or replace the back spring. Thank you for your reply.🙂

The bad thing about the modern slipjoints is they make them WAY too big. A slip joint that big just looks a little weird to me. I love the design but I just wish they were a little smaller.
