Sadie and Jasmine are Victoria's personal dogs. Some other dogs seen in Teacher's Pet are from local shelters. For example, dylan

Also great video - your techniques are revolutionary!

no. Victoria got her lab Sadie after her previous owner (a very old lady who couldn't give her walks) passed away. She had gotten very fat. It takes a long time for dogs to shed weight. Slower is usually safer. Now that she has found her new home with Victoria, she is regularly walked and is involved in some dog sports.

My border collie (9 months) is very energetic due to the breed. We run her on beaches every day but she just wants to keep going and doesn't understand we have to leave. The only motivation for her is a ball but she won't come for it, she will just wait for you to throw it and won't come near to us for fear of a leed going on - if I give her a treat she won't eat it and other toys she is oblivious to. What would you suggest Victoria ??

How long should we practice each step before moving on to the next?

What if you use a harness instead of a collar
@FeralSwift6 жыл бұрын
You can use a harness too as long as it doesn't inhibit the animal in any way. Just pet all around the harness when they come to you. You can even put the lead on for a second, then take it off and repeat.

how do we know these dogs arent pre-trained
@rozeanjel12 жыл бұрын
I understand she is demonstrating the techniques for us, however when she is using her own dog for the demonstration, who must already be trained, I wasn't as impressed as when we watched her transform a pets behavior right here on you tube. Can we atleast get an idea of how long it should take us to teach our dogs the commands she is using her dogs to demonstrate?
@TOZEPEREIRA110 жыл бұрын
I Agreed with Rozeanjel...i would like to c her training a dog with a real problem, makes sense what she says, but in practice it is very complicated, how can I deal with an aggressive dog? ...with food!!! She is nuts Or maybe i`m rong.
@ChickenOfAwesome10 жыл бұрын
She's actually fairly well known for working with shelters and owners with 'red-zone' dogs (dogs with serious aggression issues). Food actually alters an animals brain chemistry - it raises dopamine levels in the brain causing a feeling of happiness and well-being and driving them towards the food. The positive emotional response is why food works as a reward for training but is also useful in cases of anxiety or fear (which can cause aggression) if the dog is shown something that normally causes fear (say, another dog), but is presented with food before reaching a high level of stress then not only does the dog get a hit of dopamine, helping ease her fear, but it also stimulates parts of her brain associated with seeking food and this can override the part of her brain associated with generating fear responses. Dogs, like people, can't learn effectively when in a state of fear or stress, so when the food 'turns off' the 'fear brain', it also helps 'turn on' the 'thinking brain', allowing the dog to learn that the thing they previously aggressed at, is not something they need to worry about.
