Can one of these ehps pumps operate a saginaw steering box and a hydroboost brake booster simultaneously? Should it be ran at 100%, full time? Or should two ehps pumps be ran separately on steering and on hydroboost?

Will you be making a remote speed controller? It would be nice to be able to adjust it in cabin(Without little screw driver).

Then just replace the potemtiometer on the board with some wires leading to the same value in a bigger knob, that you have mounted on your dash.

It would be SWEET to interface this with a Vehicle Speed Sensor, and get an automatic variable assist according to vehicle speed. Tighter steering at high vehicle speeds, and more assist at slow speeds in a parking lot. I could come up with a circuit that would work with a digital pot, a microcontroller, and a VSS sensor, and easily get it to work, but for people without electronics knowledge, and add on module for this board would prolly sell very well. Your welcome for the idea... 💡

I’m no expert by any means. This may sound like a dumb question. After setting the pump speed, does the pump speed change when turning the wheel and how much amp does it draw when turning?

The pump will automatically change it's speed to try and maintain a constant line pressure according to wherever you have the controller set to. If it's set to 50%, the pump will vary it's speed to stay at 50% pressure under load. The pump CAN draw 80 amps at max output, and the amount it WILL draw during use will depend on your tire size, and how much pressure your power steering rack or box demands, and the load at which it takes to maintain the line pressure to whatever it's set at.

Is there any way of making this work with 90s honda VSS. Where there is linear reduction in pump power vs increase in vss pulses. Basically I would like the pump to operate at a user set speed at idle and low speed turning, but the pump turns down progressively as vehicle speed increases.

Hey! It’s definitely possible, we have another version of the controller that’s still in development that allows a pwm, or pulsed input and gives you a 3d table to control pump speed based off the input. Otherwise, if you’re crafty enough the basic code to make this work is available on my GitHub, you could make it work with an Arduino.

Ok my pump does not turn when I put the ingnision on but if I turn it with my hand it starts to run I have checked all power and can all looks right 12v and 60 oms o the can .need help pkease

I would say the motor on the pump is prolly going bad. Similar issues exist with fan motors and starters the brushes wear out and by u turning or smacking it gets it going again.

I’d like to know this as well. @whaddayawant2197 do you have an issue with it not pressurizing the hydro boost enough/causing kickback in the brake pedal? Because I’m pretty sure I need this controller to adjust the pump speed over 75%. I ordered one and hopefully it fixes it when it gets here

@@whaddayawant2197 - I've personally installed this very pump in my Mustang that has hydroboost brakes and power steering. As cooperswift8625 suspects, the default pump speed isn't enough when braking/steering input overlap. [Makes autocross a CHALLENGE] Normal driving and even light open track duty was livable. I will be installing a controller in the next week and will report back if that helped. I'm suspecting the higher pump speed will work for me.

If the pump outputs enough pressure as required by your hydroboost system, yes, it will work.

Sir, for that year and model car! Can you tell me if it can only run with only a controller unit? Unlike the other pumps need only 3 wires for it to work with option for a controller. This pomp only work when you start up the car then stop instantly! Can't get it to work with the small 12v IGN wire like what I saw on KZbin. Could it be a faulty pump? Just 😊 😊 picking your brain a little my first time on this Volvo project, thanks .

Hi great video. I am thinking of removing the belt driven pump that was fitted to my classic MGB GT and replacing it with a Volvo electric power steering pump. I know it draws a max of 80 amps but can i reduce the amps using this controller . I know that it will impact the amount of power steering I get from the pump, but thats not a problem as long as it gives me some help. Basically I am asking if I use your controller to reduce the pump by 50% then will it only draw about 40 amps and give my 50% reduced help in the steering. Thanks again.

Hello! Unfortunately the current draw changes depending on conditions and load. At "idle" with no load on the power steering pump, it will only pull 2-3 amps. However at full lock it can pull up to 80 regardless of pump speed.

What speed should the pump/controller be run at when installed for normal use? 100% I am assuming, since the limp mode is about 75% or 80% from what I'm seeing?

Whatever setting makes the steering assist the way you like it. It all depends on the power steering rack or box that's in your vehicle. Some systems use more or less pressure than others... Set it where you like it.

My volvo pump will work wide open just by sending 12v to the gray wire. While you're driving, manually adjusting the speed obviously isn't practical, so what is the purpose of your board? Are you still trying to progress towards making it auto speed adjust based on a simple road speed pulse? I was planning on using my haltech to turn my pump off above a certain speed to keep it simple, but being able to fine tune the ratio of road speed to pump speed is preferable.

The majority of the USDM Volvo EHPS pumps (04-13 40, 50, 70 series, etc.) do not run full speed with just ignition power. The "failsafe" condition when no CAN bus is detected will run the pump at about 75% of max speed. The intent for this board is a simple way to control the pump with a fixed speed, mostly for drift cars, or other Motorsports where you want consistent power steering feedback regardless of vehicle speed. The other version of the controller we've been developing allows mapping inputs from analog input such as a potentiometer or PWM output from a standalone ecu to allow changing speed on the fly or programatically, but also adds the ability to watch for messages on CAN bus and map the output based on watched messages. Modern standalone ECUs like MaxxECU are adding more CAN bus features, like EHPS control so it's a bit of a trade off if it's worth investing a lot of time into it. NO, your pump is NOT working wide open by applying power to the Grey wire. Doing that puts the pump in a "fail-safe" mode, and your only getting 75% of its full capability. Your loosing 25% by doing that.
