I bought this looking for a good thrash pedal and returned it shortly after playing in it. Couldn't chug easily ir get a decent sound i loved

Shea of ThisHeavyEarth makes a crustifixion pedal that is pretty much this. The major differences is his can run at EQ mode and there's internal trim pots for the EQ section. It can also run at 18v. It costs more than this, but I'm very happy with it.

I have this pedal, as well as two Behringer HM300, one Boss HM-2w and one TC Electronic Eyemaster. What I find is that all these different pedals work best with different amps. The HM-2w is softer, more polite, so it needs a more aggressive cut through amp. The Eyemaster is very aggressive and abrasive, so my Engl Fireball 25 takes it very well. The Hell Melter sits somewhere in between the two. What I found most curious in your review was you saying that the volume is low, when myself and even other youtubers found the opposite. This was checked with an oscilloscope. This pedal's volume is considerably higher than the OG HM-2, for example. I can't even get past 3 o'clock or it will start to get muddy. If you're using low output pickups, the boost is there to help. Try it with different amps and different IRs/speakers. I found this pedal to be one of my favorite chainsaws and love the dry and frequency knobs. IMO, they make all the difference, or else this would be just another HM-2 clone. Cheers! 🤘

I feel like it kinda has a bit of a synthetic "digital" flair to it, like a lot of Electro-Harmonix pedals seem to have... I like how cold, mean, and kind of lo-fi, it sounds on the clean channel. That would be a really cool black metal tone. Interestingly, I thought it sounded really warm and pleasant when used as a boost with a high dry mix, on your Engl's lead channel

I thought this pedal sounded decent and I'd choose it over the other HM-2 clones out there mostly because of its extra features. However, if I really needed an HM-2 clone, I would just build a BYOC Swede instead of spending $176+ on a Hell Melter.

My go to is still the angry Swede. Sounds exactly how it should and has a clean blend. For ones with more features there are some really good options, but I'd pick the Swede over this.

How do you like this compared to the hm808? To my ears, the EHX seems quite a bit thinner and high end grind, where the hm808 has more of the mid grind, but interested to hear your take on that

Two very different pedals. The hm808 is a blend of a hm2 and TS style circuits, and it's meant to boost into an amp. The hm808 is for sure tighter than this, it just might seem thinner because of all the top end and midrange going on, but it has that bulbus low-end hm2's are known for. I'll take the hm808 all day, however. That drive rules and I can hit the front end of my 5153 or 6505, cut a tight, aggressive tone with some nasty chainsaw as well.

Beating up the noise gate is hilarious ! Who plays metal of any kind without already having a preferred noise gate ? I would imagine not too many... 🙄 If you don't have or can't afford a noise gate, well you get one that at least works within this beast of a pedal. Gear snobs are the worst 😬🤘🧑‍🎤🎶🎸🕺

Was gifted a Chase Bliss Automatone. Of all it's merits the fuzz is the most bad ass I ever played. Perfect metal fuzz.. Tha EHX is not snappy enough, not throwing chunks of wood. it has no teeth, like a chainsaw in butter.

I dialed it in and gain stacked it well with the amp and work for the mix. Now an hm2 really should be dimed, but this one doesn't do it for me.

Well ... nope ... not doing it for me at all, like all EHX pedals, why their pedals remained classics has always been a mystery to me ... the big muff gets buried in the mix and everyone seems to make a better muff than the original, the small clone lacks a power filter and pops like crazy when switching it on or off like many other EHX pedals, the metal muff ... no comments lol ... the pitch fork ... meh ... tracking is slow and bordeline unusable .. the soul food is nice but the build quality and reliabilty is a deal killer ....
