EHX Ring Thing - Octaves, Bit Crushing, and Pulsing

Recording chain: Stock Fender Mexican Strat into EHX Ring Thing into Orange Micro Dark Terror Direct Out into Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 into Presonus Studio One Professional
No post processing effects were used. I recorded direct out because I live in an apartment complex and it was my only option. Like the video if you do, and feel free to comment below. I sincerely hope you enjoy.

Great showcase! I love this pedal. I don’t use all the time but it’s a keeper, there’s nothing out there that can do what this thing can do software or hardware. Ring Thing really takes off with synths and drum machines.

quick question, how exactly do you configure the bitcrusher effect on this pedal? is it just my "mis-using" the normal RM mode?

I hope I don't sound like a jerk in saying this because that's not at all my intent, but maybe try and copy the settings I used in the video at 3:22. It's not true bit crushing as it is (from my understanding of the pedal) doing nothing to alter the actual bit rate of the audio. Basically whenever I want to get a pseudo bit crushing sound, I'll adjust the coarse knob until I find the carrier frequency that sounds good to me and then I will fine tune it to taste. Anywhere between a sine and triangle wave should sound good. I'd also like to add that I haven't effed around with this pedal in a while, so you might be able to find a better setting than I have. Thanks for the reply. Don't have the pedal in hand, so was just curious. Had seen it promoted as a 'bitcrusher' before and found your vid and thought, "hrm...wait, this is is still technically just ring modulation." Cool to compare the two effects and how they can overlap, though! Thanks for being one of the few people out there to actually demonstrate this capability.

Ah gotcha! I do love this pedal simply because it's weird. That's any ring modulator really, but this one just has such a versatility to it that makes it incredibly useful in sound design. These days I'm more into synthesizers (I recently got into modular, RIP my wallet) and what's cool about this pedal is that you can use an external oscillator in the mod input of the pedal. You have to use the pedal in either the upper band or lower band mode to make use of this feature, but that's something that relatively few pedals have from what I've seen. Hopefully one of these days I'll get around to making another video for this channel (currently I stream on twitch) and I'd really like to showcase that feature if I can.
