Bravo to you for using the variac on this amazing piece of equipment. I too have had such results with machines that have been idle for years. If the original electrolitics can come up and work properly, you can hear the magnificent sound the way the designer intended.

Very nice! I have inherited my Dad’s. He built it from a kit around 1964. These amps sound great. The loudness switch circuit is screwed up. There is a fix just Google it.

Thank you. It does need recapped. That's going to be a little project when I get a minute. My uncle gave this to me. He's elderly now and doesn't want to mess with it it anymore. It hadn't been turned on for nearly 30 years.

Paul Callas My ST70 hasn’t been on since the 1980’s. Dad left it on a shelf in his garage covered with a plastic bag. Mine definitely needs cleaning. The power switch is broken, my dad just disconnected the switch wires and wire nutted the connection. When he last used it he let s power strip switch turn it on/off.
