Celebrating 3 years living in Portugal by sharing our favourite 15 Underrated Places In Portugal that You MUST SEE. We started our journey living in a remote town in Central Portugal which opened up our eyes to the beauty of the unusual destinations that are mostly off the tourist trail. Over the time we spent there we spoke to local people and discovered some real hidden gems that we wanted to share with the world. We've made some amazing memories living in Portugal and this video doubles up as a montage of our best experiences with our first child Story Ember who turned 3 years old just yesterday. So happy birthday to Story! And we hope you enjoy this fantastic collection of memories.

We Portuguese, are very proud of our country and culture, and we love to share it with other people. But i wonder, if all this natural beauty and culture will survive when Portugal becomes a well known tourist destination. My hope, is that tourists treat our country and culture, in the same way we treat them when we share these experiences and welcome you with open arms.

Se se fosse a contar desde o fundo oceânico era bem mais. Sem ir muito longe: só contando a partir do fundo do canal entre as ilhas do Pico e de São Jorge, a altura já ultrapassaria os 3500 m.

The entire north is amazing. Braga, Chaves, Bragança, Mirandela, and the list goes on. I do love historical sites and the historical villages of Almeida or Trancoso among others are amazing. The roman city of Tonobriga or the Castro of São Lourenço are something to behold. Last, but not least, my home town - Santa Maria da Feira, with it's castle and medieval streets are something special. I love Porto, where I live, and it's medieval charm, but Feira will always have a special place in my heart.

What a superb video! I am portuguese and I have visited many countries in 3 continents. I always return to my home feeling that no matter where I go abroad, I rarely find such beauty and amazement than here in this small and enormously suited country and warmingly people. I only wish massive turism should not negatively contaminate our ancestral and unique culture.

7:41 About that swing up in the mountain in Lousã (*), it has the word "SENTE" engraved. That's very cleaver, because it's actually 2 different verbs in the imperative: it both means "SEAT ON" and "FEEL IT" (*) The stress is in the last syllable (which is nasal, but anyway...), so it's not so much LOW-suh, but something like Low-SUH.

As a portuguese migrant in England it is super interesting to hear the views of foreigners, specially British, of the country and its good and bad things. Im a portuguese expat living abroad for more than 15 years. You've made me long for Portugal and its unknown beauties and managed to bring me to tears of "saudade" along the way. You must check out the deep north, both along the coast line, in Minho, and inland, in Tras-os-montes. The municipality of Montalegre, bordering Spain, has a vast amount of beautiful, precious villages. The same in the Natural Parks of Montesinho and Peneda-Gerês. A must-see and must-hike location for people who love and covet nature. However, there are beautiful small little places all over the country. Thank you for a beautiful video. Hope my country and my people qill treat you well - im sure they will, as portuguese love to receive and support foreign people and they are very kind and nurturing - and that you and your family are happy and safe living there. Take care.

You must come visit Tomar :) The Templar City. It's a city in the middle of Portugal with a Templar Castle that has inside it the Convent of Crist (Convento de Cristo) wich is part of UNESCO World Heritage. It's belived that it was the last living Templar castle in the world. The convent has a beautiful window called Chapters Window (Janela do Capitulo). That window is full ornamented with naval and portuguese objects and a sea monster wich means the start of sea exploration for the new world. From finding the sea route from Portugal to India, fighting all fears and the sea monster Adamastor in the cape of good hope (Cabo da Boa Esperança) on the south of Africa, to finding the by luck, Brasil in another voyage to India. And from there, dividing the world with Spain in half. We also have an aqueduct that feeded water into the Castle. Next to the Castle of Tomar, we also have the Wood of Seven Hills (mata dos Sete Montes) if you would like to go for a walk. Close to Tomar, we also have another castle in the middle of a island in the middle of a river called Castle of Almourol. It was a very important Templar Castle too. Do some reserch, see some images and come visit us some day :)
