I like Tears of the Kingdom as a follow-up title to Breath of the Wild because (and I'm not sure if this was intentional or not) they both work as double-entendres: - BREADTH of the Wild (referencing the size of the map from a horizontal scope) - TIERS of the Kingdom (in relation to the 3 layers of Hyrule you explore vertically) Also, I wouldn't really consider Echoes of Wisdom to be a spoiler because it's more just alluding to the central mechanic of the game and the character you play as (something that would be hard to hide as it happens right at the beginning of the game,) as opposed to Tears of the Dragon highlighting a major twist in the story (which you could probably figure out on your own through some of the memories, but still)

I honestly didn't like both titles, but If I had to choose, I would choose the dragon one. It makes more sense in the context of the game.

Very interesting that this happened with Tears of the Kingdom. Especially when I've been wondering about how Echoes of Wisdom became the game that it is and with the name that has. Prior to the most recent trailer, I've speculated that maybe the game was originally gonna be a Link due to how you can play as Link in the beginning of the game. That still may be true. But what's weird, is that we're trying to save not only Hyrule, but also Link. And with the reveal of the Swordfighter Form, with the vibes that LInk's spirit is with Zelda, I can not help but get serious Spirit Tracks vibes. According to ESRB, there's also supposed to be Bow and Arrow gameplay too. And I don't think that's just for the beginning. Especially since there's still the down directional button left unused. I really do strongly believe we'll be fight corrupted Link echoes multiple times. The first time to get the Swordfighter form. The second time to get the Archer Form. And various other times to level up those forms. And the main antagonist is actually Ganondorf possessing the real Link. Much like how the main villain of Spirit Tracks possessed Zelda and Ganondorf had also possessed her in Twilight Princess. That said, I can not help but wonder if the game may have been at one point planned to be called Echoes of Courage. But for similar reasons for what happened with Tears of the Kingdom, they decided to stick with Wisdom because they didn't want to spoil just how important Link still is to the story of the game. They also probably didn't want to confuse people either, like the main title of the series has already have for nearly 38 years now. I can imagine the original plan with Link playable was similar to the final game but, where we're trying to find and save Zelda. Sorta like a hybrid of Skyward Sword and the DS Zelda games in that regard. And the game was debated to be either Echoes of Wisdom or Echoes of Courage, but leaning more towards Echoes of Wisdom, like it is now at that point. But then, while developing Tears of the Kingdom, fans were passionately hopeful for Playable Zelda since the E3 2019 teaser and continued demand for that since the E3 2021 trailer. So that is when they reworked Echoes of Wisdom to be Zelda first official canon adventure. Link gameplay was changed into the forms for Zelda that have limited use. And Link fought Ganon at the beginning instead of the end. The name Echoes of Courage was more in mind at this point. But after deciding on Tears of the Kingdom for BotW 2, Echoes of Wisdom was ultimately decided for the upcoming 2D game for the same or similar reasons. Nintendo didn't want to spoil key plot twisting story elements and they didn't want to confuse people. So they favored generalization over specifics. Simple context over complicated context that may require playing the game to understand. And finally, EoW the way it is now added elements like Minish Cap, ALttP, ALBW, and Twilight Princess, where the main antagonist takes over Hyrule Castle, but unlike OoT, the castle isn't transformed overall. At least, not yet from what we've actually seen so far, as imagery does imply that the entire castle does likely gonna end up in the Still World. But I think it's gonna be like Minish Cap where only the interior is transformed by Ganondorf in Link's body. I really do think that Ganon has Link's body and that's how the corrupted Link echoes were made. There has to be some way for Zelda to be able to actually save Link. Having him just be dead would not only be too dark for the audience that the game is targeted towards, but also too controversial for a lot of fans.

this would explain why nintendo said they wont reveal the title of the game there was an article of anouma saying he didnt want to share the title because it would spoil the plot back when that article was posted the game would have still been called tears of the dragon if they changed it sooner we might have had the title sooner than we did ngl tears of the dragon sounds better though

Honestly though, I like the title Tears of the Kingdom better, because I feel like it sounds better than Tears of the Dragon that could've been the original title. But either way, I like the sound of Tears of the Kingdom for that sequel to the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. 👍👍👍
