@krazyivan97332 ай бұрын
I have to agree. Wind wakers artsyle and sound design are top notch for the series. Its part of why Wind Wakers artsyle was the only one to be reused in future games (majoras mask doesnt count, as it was simply a direct sequel with ported assets on the same hardware) Armos, Chuchu, Deku Baba, Bubble, Bokoblin, Moblin, Redead, Wizzrobe, and Floormaster all had incredible sound design in Wind Waker, and id say the only badly designed enemy in Wind Waker is Beamos, simply because the wind waker design is boring (a nondescript pillar with a ball of light).

I feel like The Deku Baba easily goes to Skyward Sword, not just because the appearance is so good, but because of the gameplay elements that are communicated through the design. In SS, Deku Babas have a hard rock shell, protecting from attacks in the wrong direction, with the direction of the mouth indicating which way you need to slice to successfully kill them. I also love how in SS, there are so many alternative ways of beating them, like: -Parrying them stuns them and allows you to cut off the stalk, instantly killing them. -Shooting them with a slingshot stuns them too. -The Beetle item can fly under it and cut the stalk. -The Bow and Arrow can cut the stalk. -They love eating bombs.

I’m not really seeing how the TP Gibdos are considered insectoid. TOTK I can understand, but TP has no features on them that makes them give off that kind of appearance. Also, the Helmasaur-like enemies in Majora’s Mask are actually called Hiploops. They’re actually quite rare enemies in the game, and only appear on the wooden bridges outside of Woodfall Temple, and a few inside of Stone Tower Temple. As far as I know, the one right outside the boss door in Stone Tower Temple is the only one wearing a metal mask. The rest are unmasked.

as somebody attempting to draw every zelda enemy, and pick a unified / best / original style for each.. this video is going to be fascinating. The thing that messed me up most about Octarok is they have octa in the name, but then in Wind Takt which (like a certain other popular nintendo franchise's first gamecube game) decided to just make huge changes.. suddenly they are clearly squid. But then if you look back at Ocarina again, it's kind of ambiguous what kind of cephalopod it is.. the big ones even have shells. so I can let it go lol. I am pretty sure some of those 'crows' are the enemy Crowly, and others are Guays.. Guays have had neat design changes for sure. like the beak reaching back behind the eye.. Part of the issue with the inconsistency of the various wormy-centipedey enemies is that the localization just seems to toss the names around at random. But honestly, even in the original Japanese, it's still inconsistent. Whether it's mold, tail, or lanemola.. you have to pretty much roll the dice to see if you're getting a worm, a centipede, a caterpillar... Some of those pig-moriblins are actually called Butablin, but some of them realy are Moriblins so yeah they definitely vary. Dog, pig, and oni features all around. 14:13 that enemy is actually called Kamabado. The localizers got lazy, as they did a lot in this era. 15:40 lol N64 wasn't the origin of Dodongos my good man, they were in the very first game, and the fourth gave us a bizarre worm form. and some newer ones too you seem to have missed. I wonder if the localization is different in your country, because in the US, the enemy Hiploop is called Helmasaur only in some of those games. When it's a bug, they left the name alone. But they are all Hiploop originally. And the "Helmasaur King" also shares his real name with an unrelated enemy the "Helmaroc King", they are both jiikurokku. kinda hard to parse.

When talking about what a good or a bad design is, there Always will be some personal preferences, but there also some objectiv way to analyse it wich I think is more interesting. Trying to take on the reasons of why did the designer make these choices. The lizalfos design is great in botw, but why ? Probably because the camelion base make them look more unique but also because they were studied to be cohérent this way. By attacking with their long tong, running like a lizard, Horn showing their grade, all this is though by the designers.

The intimidating ones look like monsters, but I think of them as hostile wildlife more than anything. Beamos: Uh... BotW. Bokoblins: SS. I don't like these guys. Moblins: Torn between LANS and Blue Moblins from BotW. Poes(as enemies): OoT Wizzrobe: Hyrule Warriors, easy. Bubble: LBW, sure it's a skull, but it's not a human skull. Deku Baba: SS or TP. Depends on how hostile you want a normal fantastical flora to be. Dodongo: Dondons, they're adorable. Dodongo(as enemies): OoT King Dodongo. Wolfos: TP. Peahat: Echoes of Wisdom. Helmasaur: LBW Kargoroc: Wind Waker.

TotK Like-Likes really show just how threatening plants or plant-like fauna could be. Kind of in the same vain as the peahats from OoT. Absolutely brilliant monster design imo.

Honestly I always liked the OoT and MM LikeLikes more. They always felt really intimidating, and the way they died by melting is really cool

The sprites were scaled weirdly in this, making their comparisons difficult to look at. When you're editing, make sure to change the scaling option for sprites from something other than bilinear, since it interprets the change in size by blurring the colors instead of keeping it crisp and blocky.

Gttta love that a TON of pld enemies were given a chance to return in all of their hd chibi glory in eow

14:42 the enemy in link between worlds is called a anti-fairy not a bubble. I know that they are pretty much the same. In 2d top-down zeldas they are called anti-fairies while in 3d zeldas starting with OoT they are bubbles. Another group of enemies that are very similar but have different names are chuchus, buzz blobs, gels, and zols

I know people hate on the enemies in TOTK, but I don’t think it’s necessarily just the quantity of them, there’s a actually a decent amount. The issue is there is no longer anymore unique enemies so to speak. What was beautiful about the pre BOTW games was that every dungeon and area had genuine new enemies rather than just reskinned elemental enemies. I believe the only one in TOTK that felt unique was like the Gibdo

Mostly agreeable opinions. However I didn’t think anyone could have an outright wrong opinion till i saw your choice of gibdo.

I think this video is too big on the 3D game supremacy, especially glazing oot/mm and twilight princess a little too much, it complretely discounts great character designs like minish cap's Helmasaur or any sprite based moldorms.

On Poes: I personally prefer the N64 design over Twilight Princess, even though I grew up on Twilight and have never player Ocarina or Majora, because of the irony of a design. It's a cute yet mysterious Ghost, making it unsettling purely in the fact that it still tries to put on a nice facade, yet it's completely black face and odd robe will always remind you - It's a dead person's ghost

The best design of the helmasaur is the gameboy sprite they look hillarious without their mask!

the DarkNUT
@thesis-and-nieces67228 күн бұрын
I’ve always loved the darknut appearance in wind waker far better than twilight. The main reasons is that they are a different species in wind waker. Almost rodent like maybe squirrel because of the “nut” part of the name. But their armor looks very cool in WW
@BlankSpaceMonsterASMR3 ай бұрын
I would’ve included the Zant’s Hand from Twilight Princess since I consider that to be a Wallmaster even though the name very clearly says it’s something else.

How the hell are the redead knights (yes i know they are gibdos bit that is their offical name) insectoids?
@holgerlarsson75312 ай бұрын
You sould do this with classic bosses that have had multiple iterations as well! Like Gohma and Phantom ganon!

I get that this video is focusing more on 3D models than Sprites but it's still weird that you didn't even mention Cadence of Hyrule
@re_4merchant3 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? Twilight princesses gibdos don’t look insectoid in the slightest. They’re more realistic mummies than any of the others
