I have followed Martina's career for many years. Really enjoyed this lady's brand of tennis. Thanks for providing me with years of great tennis.

Unlike you I, unfortunately, never paid attention to Martina, the person. I knew of her stardom, but absolutely nothing about her and her story. I'm embarrassed to say that this is actually my first time listening to an interview with her. And listening to what an amazing personal story she has makes me even more embarrassed. She is such a boss.

Chris once said Nancy Lieberman made her hate Chris and Chris’s reply was she NEVER an any negative emotions regarding Martina on the course where had to see Chris as an enemy which was true ( she denies it) but it did not help Martinas support amongst the American ppl. It took yrs for them to embrace her. Martina had about 6-7 good years and chris also had about 7-8 so they were both champions in their own right. Their rivalry was terrific for Tennis

Martina had more than 6-7 good years. She had the BEST, most dominant 6 year spell in the pro era and was in the top 5 for almost 20 years. In her career h2h rivalry with Evert, she led over 9 seasons compared with 6 by Evert. She dominated Evert 10-4 in slam finals and led her on all surfaces bar clay.

Navratilova makes me think of the main theme song from the late-80s "Tootsie" movie - more-so with her intensity, drive and determination in her tennis-playing! 😁

Lol, "90 mph cannon ball serve".....my how tennis and technology have changed. Kinda chuckle when she casually said she's living comfortably with multiple houses, Porsche, Ferrari, and nice jewelry

I love her so much. I had a poster of her on my bedroom wall as a teenager. Yes, even though I knew she was a lesbian and married, I still fantasized about her.. Watching from London.

Martina must have spent a huge amount of money over the years. Apart from the very costly settlements she had to pay out to various former partners, she was also famous for having a huge entourage at a time when the money in tennis was nowhere near as much as it is now. It was reported that when she split up with her partner Toni Layton she is reported to have said "I was worth $15 million when I met you, now I'm only worth $10m." Toni Layton disputed it and said Martina was worth a hell of a lot more. But if those figures were true, it's a very scant amount for someone who played and won so many tennis matches (she was given a $1 million bonus in 1984 for winning 4 grand slams in a row), and has had 40 years to see the amount grow. I suspect she doesn't have as much money as we think, which is why she's still so present on TV and the media in a way that so many of her contemporaries aren't.

Martina is a real enigma. She can be sensitive, caring, brave, intelligent and thoughtful. But she can also be bitchy, Narcissistic, entitled, brat-ish and unpleasant. Ted Tinling famously said of her "She goes from arrogance to panic with nothing in-between."
@tobiasisback4605 Жыл бұрын
You’re an enigma too. Your comments can be intelligent, insightful and worthwhile. But you also have a bitchy, salacious, catty side that is quite unpleasant and reflects badly on you. Try to focus on the tennis and raise yourself above the level of gossip and personal mud-raking.
