Thank you for watching! A few notes as this story has gained traction: This video was filmed during a media preview event, so there were other outlets there, I couldn’t have a tripod, and I had limited time to capture everything. My goal was to share information to help people who visit the exhibition in person a better understanding of Edith Head. I will not tolerate sexist, inappropriate, hateful, and negative comments. Be kind, folks and remember the humans. I hope you enjoy your visit! If you would like to learn more about Edith Head and her work, here are some recommendations. I had the great honor to meet Edith Head in 1972. The county wide 4-H fashion show was held at Juniata College (Pa.) and she was working as a consultant for Singer (sewing machines) at that time. She instructed the girls in proper stance to best show off their creations and how to word the descriptions of their outfits. She also taught the escorts (like myself) how to escort the girls out and back from the stage. It's a fond memory of my high school days.

Tippi Hedren's green wool sheath suit for the The Birds is one of those film looks that is so effortlessly right that you don't even remember she's wearing it the entire film.

Costume designer Rita Riggs, who worked with Ms. Head on "The Birds" commented on Hederen's green suit, noting that green was Hitchcock's favorite color, and stating that, "if your leading lady in a Hitchcock film is going to be wearing only a single outfit for the entire film, it had better be green."

Excellent. If you want to see what Edith Head was like watch the Colombo episode "Requiem for a Falling Star" in which she has a tiny cameo while in conversation with Anne Baxter's character "Nora Chandler" and of course Peter Falk's character "Colombo." You can see a smart, innovative woman who's not afraid of a camera and definitely has a grasp on her career. I can still hear her voice because of it. And to boot the episode gives her the acclaim that only a star such as Edith Head deserves.

When Miss Head was designing out of Universal Studios I saw her many times on the lot during the late 60s thru the 70s. Being support staff my friends and I never spoke to her, of course. Not that she had a reputation for being unfriendly, but you gave her the respect she deserved and spoke only when spoken to. One time she was standing in front of me to pay her commissary bill. I was quite surprised to see her in line. Seems to me she had on one of her signature beige suits with the long calf-length skirt. Fun remembrance.

@@carolynmckee4295 Mine too! It's not a conventionally happy ending, but the scene at the end where she walks up the stairs illuminated just by the lamp to Morris banging on the bolted door is sheer cinematic perfection (kudos to Wyler and the cameraman). Catherine has trimumphed. And there are so many brilliant dialogue scenes between de Havilland and Clift and her and Ralph Richardson. And Miriam Hopkins perfect for the role: "Catherine, can you be so cruel?" "Yes Aunt. I have been taught by MASTERS" as her eyes flash with bitterness.
