with David Hyman, Israeli professional tour guide. Ein Gedi is Probably our number 1 nature hike in Israel we keep returning year by year and never get tired of this absolutely stunning nature reserve. Ein Gedi is the perfect site if you love walking in nature, wildlife, water pools, biblical history, desert views, and a bit of a challenge.
Ein Gedi is in the Judean desert about one hour drive from Jerusalem, at an elevation of 400 meters below sea level, so expect warm weather and lots of sunshine. That is why we always try to visit in the winter season when it's cooler. During the cooler months, one can climb to the higher levels of the park and visit Dodim cave and the Chalcolithic temple. If you arrive early in the morning you have a better chance to see the local wild goats - the Nubian Ibex walking freely on the steep cliffs. Ein Gedi's biggest attraction is the freshwater streams flowing down the wadi, creating cool pools, waterfalls, and relaxing resting spots.
make sure to read the powerful biblical story (1 Samuel: 24) about young David hiding in the cave of Ein Gedi from King Saul. It always amazes me how the biblical description of Ein Gedi hasn't changed since this event took place 3 thousand years ago. The desert, the cliffs, the wild goats, the cave, and even the exact name of the oasis that hasn't changed !!
Thanks Shiri for joining me on this tour, and for your support. Love you

Thanks so much for the tour. I was there in 2007, but only made it to the ridge to see David’s Waterfall, & did not even know about the rest of it to the cave! It’s my favorite place on the planet!

Incredible tour of an absolutely beautiful location ~ ~ how wonderful to see the undisturbed location of Ein Gedi, remembering the scripture event of David hiding from the jealous King Saul in the caves. You have helped to bring the many Bible locations to life! Many thanks to you both for bringing "Wonderful Israel" into our home! Shalom! Shalom!

Hi David, I’m planning a trip to Israel and intend to visit the Dead Sea region, is it possible for two relatively fit and healthy young individuals to hike up Masada Snake path, take the rail car down, visit Ein Gedi, hike around for a few hours then have time to visit the Dead Sea for a couple hours?

Yes, it's possible. Start early. Masada snake path opens an hour before sunrise .
