My African Gray passed away and broke my heart. Mine was so intelligent too and shocked me how he picked up words from me which I didn't teach him to say truly amazing. Mine had a very large vocabulary and would say "good morning" every day when I woke up. I had two cats too but he was boss and would stand guard on top of his perch on look out for the cats which he would attack as soon as he saw them. I've never seen such an intelligent animal than the African Gray.

Owning a parrot is a commitment. We got our African Grey Timnah as a baby. She will be 28 this summer. They live a long long time so you need to think about that and who will take her if..... You are her flock, and she will grieve when we are gone. She does tricks and says over 200 phrases. She does not mimic. She says things at appropriate times and no other times IE in the morning when she first hears or sees you, she will say Good Morning. At night when I cover her cage, she says Time to go night night. She sees you putting on your coat or picking up your keys she says, Time to go bye bye. Again, at no other time. It is said that African Grey Congo or Timnah are the very best talkers and have the intelligence of about a 2-year-old child.

how is it that the presenter calls Einstein "she" and "her" the entire time but people in the comments keep calling the bird "him"

Because people from my generation and older referred to everything as "he" and "him" as the default gender, that's why we have "mailman" and "congressman" and "fireman" etc. and you will often still see this in things like the online video game community (Although it's fading out slowly) where everyone refers to any gamer as "he" or "him" assuming every player is male, but it's slowly changing...
