When people say German is a hard language, they mean the sound of the language is harsh. It has a lot of hard consonant sounds compared to French of Spanish (and I'm not sure how you figure that German is softer than French anyway). As for the music, it's more of a bias issue. People who listen to rock, industrial, techno, etc will eventually gravitate toward those types of music in other languages before other types of music in said languages.
@7bloodyTears4 жыл бұрын
Have you ever tried to see the "softer" languages from the view of languages with "harsher" sounds?
@Manbear76783 жыл бұрын
Hahaha when they say "Deutsch ist schwer," "schwer" can be seen as heavy or harsh, but I think most often it's seen as "difficult," although I'm still learning. But to say German is harsh, but not more difficult than others has got to be false. Deutsch ist sehr schwer!

Well as a German-American most of us in the US only get a glimpse of Adolf Hitler yelling and screaming so we get the assumption that German is some gutteral language. English is my birth tongue. I speak no German at all but I love Doro, UDO, Rammstein, and now this band and think I am going to start pursuing more like this to add to those collections.
@shannonking34305 жыл бұрын
Yes and the reason that is an "inaccurate" depiction of German as it is spoken by many....GERMANS haha is because Hitler was Austrian. Trust me when I say most Germans do not speak german like most Austrians. It's probably like comparing Scottish English to British English or American English; same language but they definitely don't sound the same.
@doomyboi13 жыл бұрын
@irishmobster60 I can't speak for any other country, in the U.S. the German language is often associated with the Nazis in our World War II movies, and hence the language is ingrained in some peoples' minds as "evil" or "angry" because of the portrayal of Nazis in those same movies. Which is a damn shame, as the language is really fun to speak and, as shown in several songs by both Rammstein and Eisbrecher, is more than capable of being beautiful and poetic in its own right. I wish I was fluent

@ForwardN2Unknown There is a flower named that yes, a simple search in wikipedia of forget me not will bring up the flower, although it doesn't appear to be a name of German descent, but rather French. Though it has gone on to be called the same thing in many different languages. One of those quaintly named flowers such as bleeding hearts or lady's slippers, etc.

Not all German songs are super deep either. ( Just saying ). "I don't love you , you don't love me...da da da...." ( not hating on the song , in fact it is one of my faves ....just the only example I can think of at the moment of a German / partly German song that does not have much "depth" to it. Just a fun song about relationships to sing along with and dance to. In my opinion not everything needs to be deep and there is nothing wrong with that. )

@MOCKBA11 When translating the phrase to English, both "don't forget me" and "forget me not" are equally correct in the modern English grammar. Many native English speakers regard "forget me not" as a more poetic way of phrasing the sentiment.

@reject86 If we're speaking in pure technicalities, Forget-me-not would not exist in Old English, as that language is a lot closer to Norse or German than modern English. However, you meant Early Modern English, which is correct; but the phrase "forget me not" is also considered correct by most modern native speakers' intuitions. However, if I may point to your statement as one piece of evidence, it -is- considered "poetic" or "archaic" or "quaint" compared to "Don't forget me."

That's the point! I'm completely German. And everywhere i just need to hear: "Go back, Nazi!" and somethink like that. But what, if i'm not a nazi? I've got many friends who came from other coutries and i don't matter. And the most germans are like that. We aren't nazis but some people won't understand ... And isn't it racist to call all the germans racists? So . think of that .. :)

I think that the language itself doesn't have the depth, the german language has. Englisch sounds (in my opinion) much "happier" than german and therefore I think it would be mor difficult to create such "deep" songs... (Just some thoughts of myself [as a german-speaker], don't know if anything is correct)

Goral XX-6 I think a big part of it is definitely the language itself, but the 90's still managed to have great songs made in America. Mostly in the punk/grunge scene. Bands like The Offspring and Bad Religion come to mind. Nothing deep, mind you, but it was good. These days, most American music sounds alike, and very little of it sounds good. Something happened at some point that made the American music industry take a sharp nosedive. That's why I listen to old music or foreign music.
