DEMOCRATS!! DEMOCRATS!! not REPUBLICANS. Republicans do not LIKE WAR, IT IS BAD FOR THE ECONOMY. WAR BOOSTS THE ECONOMY but it is like a BOMB...once it is broken and you clean up the mess...then what? PEACE makes a growing and lasting economy. Nixon ended the war in VIetnam and Reagan...no war. Trump...no war. JUST HISTORY.

To fully understand Eisenhower we must understand why he ignored the gestures toward peace and ending Cold War by the Soviets in 1953. And, why he snubbed pre-Communist Castro after the Cuban Revolution. Why he overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran 1953 and Guatemala 1954. Why sent special forces to SE Asia

@@barquerojuancarlos7253. Yes. It’s confounding that he can give this warning but have sanctioned so much I’ll will during his time. The context of Stalin’s aggression in Eastern Europe would be something of the context. Also the corruption of power mongers like J Edgar Hoover and the Dulles Brothers as well as the new pentagon monies and powers. It would be great to know more of what his actual involvements were.

This is the kind of video that matters. This isn't some young, smiling, fame-obsessed politician making up shit to try to win office for his own ambition. This is a man at the end of his political and military career who isn't fucking around and is trying to tell all of us, including our future generation, shit that is actually important to him.

He was my President when I was in the Navy in the late 50's. I was 22 when I listened to this address. I voted for the first time in 1960 for John F. Kennedy and it was forever war ever since. He predicted the downfall of our Democracy and the hate and prejudice that permeate our country and world at this point in time. We've strayed from the ideals and hopes that our Constitution gave us. +Ben Johnson But remember that HE was a big part in its formation. He believed that technology would help save the lives of untold American soldiers. So while he didn't blame himself, he at least gave a warning of the negative consequences of the industry he helped set into motion.
@dahlberg31
@dahlberg31 8 жыл бұрын
***** I don't think "hate" is the most accurate description. He was a lifetime member of the military afterall. However he was motivated to completely revamp it. His main vision was make the military technologically sophisticated to the point that troops would be rarely needed. So that is why he was enthusiastically supporting companies and governmental programs devoted to military technology. However by the end of his tenure he did see that troubling signs were emerging from his vision. I don't discredit him for his warning. My only problem is giving a politician credit for something he criticized AFTER he had no power. If you give him props for his farewell address, don't forget to analyze his actions as well. Jimmy Carter is similar in that his post presidency career has been largely admirable. But he was responsible for a lot of rotten things while in office that he could have done something about.
@dahlberg31
@dahlberg31 8 жыл бұрын
***** I usually stay away from overly speculating over an individual's personal motives (since they are impossible to ever verify), but obviously that address was not recommended to him by any advisor. He definitely felt strongly enough about the MIC to make that part of his farewell address. However a President can say whatever he wants. If Obama wants to criticize the MIC in his address he can. But you're right that a politician wouldn't be able to broadcast that sentiment and THEN get elected. Unless somehow Bernie Sanders pulls off the most remarkable campaign in American history.
@ms8596

+nidurnevets I like him because he has integritity and he wants what is best for the nation, but his economic views are flawed. Socialism serves the elite it does not hurt them. Because entitlements make people financially weak and needy rather than financially independent and capable of challenging the system. The founders knew capitalism was the only way, but between central banks, fractional reserve lending, the military industry complex, being taken of the gold standard (the open door to money printing) true Capitalism died a long long time ago... now we have bankism, welfarism, the merger of state and corporate (fascism) all in one, until it collapses and that will happen soon. - I like the guy and I am sure he wouldnt consent to a bailout... he might even set them back, but thats it. - People need to be re-educated, the reason we are in so much trouble is because financial education was removed from school. God forbid we figure out what these sobs were doing.

+Dancing Reeper In this case he was trying to warn us about something he saw as a danger. From reading about him, he was very concerned, probably more concerned than he states in the speech, about the take over of our economy, and even our way of life, by a new part of our economy and government. He saw the Cold War itself as a tremendous waste of resources, and tried to negotiate with Khrushchev directly to end it. As he says the technological advances (which included nuclear weapons, super-sonic aircraft and missiles, etc), and the danger of what he saw as a prolonged struggle with Communism made these changes necessary, but also dangerous.

If this man is to know what is becoming of his country and people. He would cry a river of tears. What a great man with a great foresight. May God bless him. This man was a true American for the American people. His word tainted with a firm believe in God and Science. A man that weighed both the light & darkness of every progress and decision undertaken within the boundaries of the power given to him.
