Ong you are my new best friend...lol. I was cracking up watching this. Thanks for being so thorough. My husband and I are frying our turkey for the first time this year, and I bought the Masterbuilt XL (it does not say butterball on it tho), and the instructions don't even say what cook temp or give a guide as to per pound cook time. You were a big help and a little comic relief. New subscriber here... Happy Thanksgiving to you.

I've fried turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. I'll be doing it again for Thanksgiving this year. The last time, I've wet-brined my turkeys with a solution containing buttermilk, kosher salt, peppercorns, garlic, and brown sugar. What I'll be doing this time is massaging compound butter between the skin and breast while also injecting cajun butter solution directly into the meat. My bird will truly be a Butterball. And, believe it or not, I will be letting my 15 pound turkey rest for a good 3 or 4 hours before carving and serving. The rule of thumb is to let the bird rest for about as long as it takes to roast it. Of course, frying cooks the bird in a fraction of the time, but it still needs that extra time to rest so the juices will settle down and properly reconstitute with the meat. It will still be sufficiently hot when carving time comes, though you can also heat it up with piping hot gravy. But the point is that the bird won't dry out shortly after I cut into it. Sufficient resting time really makes a huge difference in juiciness and flavor, even with leftovers. After letting the turkey rest for that long myself, I'm a believer.

So you like cold Turkey?
@Watcher3223
@Watcher3223 3 жыл бұрын
@@cheby56 Better than dry turkey. But there are ways to heat it back up to desired serving temperature that will let the meat retain its juiciness if it gets too cool.

With a smaller cut of meat like a steak or pork tenderloin I always set my timer for 10 minutes before carving, with a 15 lb bird it will obviously take longer.

Make sure to take it out of the box and test it asap. Bought one from Walmart this year. Broken out of the box. Would not turn on. Likely the completely unneeded safety switch is defective. Spent quite a bit of time and effort trying to troubleshoot it. Everything in the area closed for Thanksgiving so no exchange possible and had to put it in the oven. Great video though. Thanks Masterbuilt.

I have this fryer and I find if you use a liquid injectable seasoning it gives the meat a great flavor. I use Tony Chachere's Creole Butter injector (whole bottle) and on the outside Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning. May not be available where you are but its a staple here in our home. Meat comes out tender, juicy and full of flavor.

This this is MY kind of sense of humor! Loved the video. One question, though. If you put the seasoning on the night before, doesn't it wash off the next day if you give it a warm water bath to warm the turkey after removing it from the fridge (as suggested in the Masterbuilt videos)? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
@RedCowEntertainment
@RedCowEntertainment 4 жыл бұрын
The warm water bath, I believe, is if you are thawing out a frozen turkey. The warm water bath ensures there's no ice crystals which could explode in the hot oil. I was using a fresh turkey so I skipped that step. In theory, yes, you would have to season a bathed turkey with additional seasoning.

I put my turkey in breast side up and legs towards the smaller tapered end, I cook in mine all year long, not just for turkey, makes the best fried chicken ever, and you can cook a ton of pieces at one time. Yes, peanut oil is best, hottest burning point of any oil, but if on a budget, buy regular cooking oil and save a ton of money, but peanut oil will not ruin at high heat and you can use it over and over.

It will burn. There's a reason the cord is short. Adding length produces resistance (Ohm's) which exceed the UL guidelines and could decrease necessary power. A household cord will burn up quickly.
