Being a two-handed flopper is one odd-ball achievement but resorting to a backup ball for strikes is a double whammy. Eventually it will backfire.

It is the scoring format they were forced to adapt to to bring bowling to the (common man) for the IOC (Olympic Committee). Because the IOC believes that the common man is too stupid to understand (normal 10 pin scoring). They want to know who is winning at any given moment.
@stratocaster0842
@stratocaster0842 5 жыл бұрын
Has absolutely NOTHING to do with thinking people are too stupid to understand normal scoring at all. This system was made to eliminate situations where a 5/ or 6/ scores exactly the same as a 9/, such as following a single strike or an open frame. In this format, 9/ ALWAYS awards more pins (19) than say a 6/ (16) or a 7/ (17) etc. In this format count matters for every single shot at all times. Another goal of this format was to make every frames individual score independent from what you did in the previous frame - this gives all strikes equal value, rather than placing extra value on a strike just because you threw one the previous frame. All in all it is a more fair way of scoring and absolutely better for match play - there wont be instances where a bowler rolls 3 strikes in a row then spares the rest of the game and beats a guy who throws 6 strikes and spares every other frame just because his 6 strikes were spread apart. In nomal scoring, start with a three bagger and then throw all 9/ the rest of the game and you get a score of 212. Alternate strikes and 9 spares the whole game and you’ll throw twice as many strikes as the 212 game, but you’ll only score 200. This is inherently unfair.

Horrible scoring format. Watered down nonsense.
@stratocaster0842
@stratocaster0842 5 жыл бұрын
This is actually a good scoring format. Allow me to explain. I thought it was bad until I did some thinking. Every single shot count matters in this scoring format. Normal scoring allows you to get 7, 6 pins after a strike or open, spare it up and have your 7 or 6 count mean nothing. You know like in league when an annoying dude points out that your 5/ was just as good as a 9/ since you just opened the last frame or were working on one strike. In this WBT Scoring format there never exists a situation where 5/ scores the same as 9/. In normal scoring You can even gutter after a strike or open and make your spare and you receive zero penalty for the gutter. In this format, your first ball count matters every single shot. Nine spare is 19, gutter spare is 10, seven spare is 17, etc. This increases “fairness” IMO. Also, in this format, every frames score is independent of other frames. In normal scoring, a bowler can throw 4 strikes, 6 spares and defeat a bowler who throws 5 strikes and 5 spares, just because the first bowler’s strikes so happened to come in succession. In this format, the bowler who bowls 5 strikes and 5 spares will almost always beat the bowler who throws 4 strikes and 6 spares ( the only exception would be if the 5 spares game consisted of a bunch of terrible first ball counts)

stratocaster0842 I understand what your saying. I just prefer the regular way of scoring.
@bensullivan5562
@bensullivan5562 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with stratocaster0842, it shouldn't matter whether strikes are in succession or not. In traditional scoring, If someone throws the first 5 strikes and then the rest is spares, they will beat the guy who goes strike, spare , strike, spare etc. 5 times, which I don't think is actually fair. Yes, they may have got 5 in a row, but they couldn't pull off another one after that for the rest of the game? And the guy who alternates strikes and spares is still showing some 'consistency' for the whole game. And what I like about WBT scoring too is that the scores are more 'reflective' of the number of pins you actually knock down. For example in traditional scoring, does it seem fair that getting just one non-strike and then sparing it up, will drop you from 300 into the 270s? In WBT, that would only drop you to about 280-290, which is better too because it's fairer and keeps games closer and more exciting.
