That win at the Indianapolis open in 2019 it’s a moment I will always remember! Just the day before I was down in Indy getting his autograph and chatting with him about bowling the tournament. The next day I woke up pumped as hell to watch Norm bowl on TV. My dad and I sat down in the living room and turned on our massive flat screen for the big moment! When he won I literally jumped off the couch screaming “YEEEEES!” I will always remember that day and cherish it for the rest of my life!

Norm Duke is just a top class sportsman. I competed against him and you could tell he was on a different level than the rest of the players. Much more control over what was going on out there, and would make 240 plus look easy on a condition where 220 was a good score. I really feel like the 2008 World Championship is one of the most forgotten bowling “what if’s” ever. If Shafer won, he would finally (and deservedly, by the way, he’s by far the unluckiest bowler ever) have won a major, and may have won the 2011 World Championship if he had won it in ‘08, and Duke, well, who knows what would’ve happened.

Another great video! Could you please explain to me though what the exemption is?
@johngosline79904 жыл бұрын
It was a points based system, the better you finished in the events the more points you earned, if you won a title you were exempt from having to meet the point threshold for the next season and didn’t have to go thru the tour qualifying rounds, if you won a major you were exempt for 2 years no matter where you finished in any other tournament for that season or the next. I forget what the cut off was but I think the top 32(?) were exempt the next season from having to go the tour qualifying rounds
@bentaylor52444 жыл бұрын
@@johngosline7990 gotcha. Is that system still in place?
@Bowling_Planet4 жыл бұрын
Yup! Norm had a thigh injury around that time which meant he wasn't able to bow his best which was why he almost lost his exemption. I'm not sure if they use that system anymore.

What does it mean when they mention something about an exemption during the 2000s?
@Bowling_Planet4 жыл бұрын
Basically in order to bowl on the tour, you need what's called an exemption. It's basically like your ticket to be able to bowl at a PBA event. If you don't do well enough for an entire season or you drop out for an entire season, you lose that exemption and won't be able to compete the following season. Norm might've had a bad season before that World Championship because of a thigh injury so he almost lost his exemption. Hope this helps! 😊
