I was at the Mellow Mushroom on the strip outside UT's campus.My family was visiting for that weekend and we were watching the game.There was one table with Georgia fans wooping over their apparent win...and when that ball was caught, the entire restaurant exploded.People stood on chairs and started singing.The Georgia people just got up and left and many people waved bye to them as they went out.

Galilee1964 I thought same thing when I heard that. I like ag the end how both announcers were complaining about penalties killing them just shortly before he said who cares! I'm a Vols fan and growing up Bulldogs were my 2nd favorite team. Damn during this game I got so tired of them playing the call from back in 80's with the boot nail breaking nose call. I'm just so glad to finally see the Vols get a miracle ending like this. In my over 38 years of life and being VFL I have saw way to many times the we got the ending like the TD Georgia got and then we don't get H.M. to win. only other miracle I actually remember was the 98 season and the Stoerner Fumble that gave us huge win over Ark to keep our National Title year alive.

Exactly right. He should've been fired long before that game. He had no clue what he was doing, nothing more than a salesman.
@alyasgrey9370
@alyasgrey9370 6 жыл бұрын
Butch Jones was a thoroughly mediocre coach, but it's not about what most people seem to believe with their 20/20 hindsight. This play did not save his job, contract conditions made it so that anything short of a complete and utter collapse in 2016 was going to keep him around for another year. And he was absolutely not a salesman. He was terrible at that aspect of his job. His real problem is that he was absolutely obsessed with Xs and Os while being awful at anything interpersonal so his players made zero progress during their careers unless they took it upon themselves to do so.

@@bobmurica4174 does that mean Smart doesn't know what he's doing? No. We had a good team, and call it luck if you want but whoever is in the front of the pile gets the ball and Georgia didn't do much of that. Call Butch Jones a bad coach but he found a way to go 2-3 against y'all. I'm just saying it's easy to say that now but after that game. Tennessee was in Playoff talk and we lost to #8 A&M.
@intoxicatedgrandpa1596
@intoxicatedgrandpa1596 6 жыл бұрын
jfktheloop16, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Why would they fire a coach who at that time had just led them to a 9-3 season and top 10 the next year. This game had nothing to do with him getting fired. That's the year after this

Stephen hon, you are a true sport... you are the first Ga. fan that I have met that isn't obnoxious or arrogant, You seem like a sweet guy. I agree it was a great game Georgia always has a good team, and I surely thought we had lost the game until that hail mary. I am a student at UT now but was still in high school at the time this game was played. We drove down there to the game and I was in the stands with some friends of ours that got us tickets...this was so amazing to see live.

Cassie Stewart Sports are about the struggle and the big moments. Sometimes they go your way and sometimes not. I am passionate about my team, but respect that in other people too. My high school coach went to UT, and one of my teammates started at TE there all 4 years he went there. My Dad’s side of the family is from a tiny GA town right on the state line, so many of my relatives are staunch Volunteers. We tease each other a lot. All in all there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of being there live when a big sports moment happens. My son and I were watching it from our home in Athens. I remember the euphoria from one moment and the shock and disbelief of the next. I wasn’t a happy camper for a while that afternoon. But growing up a Dawgs, Falcons, Braves fan you learn to not get too attached to leads and deal with what I call “the day after” effect. Sometimes when you are watching you forget it is only a game played by young men. Nevertheless, I hope we all get some sort of season this fall in spite of this virus. Nice to meet you and good luck.

LOL...The poor UGA radio announcer couldn't confirm the final score because they turned off the scoreboard less than a minute after the clock hit 0:00. They've always done it after a loss in Athens, always will...

Man I was mad and as red in the face as you could be. But then, it all just disappeared as jajuan Jennings caught that ball. I was stunned at first, but then filled with glee! I was jumping up and happy the rest of that night. Will never forget. Even if we sucked the next year, I was still happy at that time.

There’s 2 from 1998 that preserves the undefeated season that I would rank above this one: Clint Stoerner’s fumble in the 4th qtr when Arkansas was just running out the clock, and Jeff Hall’s overtime FG to break the losing streak against the Gators.

Vince Neiderman, that's a study of 2 broadcasters who followed legends. Scott Howard used to be a good pxp guy when he was doing Georgia hoops only. When Munson retired, he started to copy Munson, and he is a goofball doing it. Kesling followed the legendary John Ward and didn't try to be a carbon copy.
