This is so true and so sad. Just the other day I was trying to think back to when TN was a real threat on the national scene and thought "My god, it has been over a decade". That isn't a slump. That means your team has actually become a true basement dweller. TN spends way too much on their program to be in this shape permanently.

It is very respectful of the program, with thoughtful insight, great game video, historical knowledge and even a little boost for the Tennessee fan to keep their heads up. I was there during the Andy Kelly years. We were very good and a Saturday at Neyland was as good a college football experience that you can get. So sad to see empty seats and people leaving in the second half now. No fair-weather fan here though, but it's hard to pick up the pieces of this broken orange heart. Georgia State at home as a 26 point favorite, and we should have lost worse than we actually did. Pretty much seen in all, but I never expected that. Anyway, I digress. Good job on the video.

Plazas Security Literally so nice!!! But “Tradition”😪😪😪
@tylerhowell97354 жыл бұрын
@Jake Smith What does being traditionalist about uniforms have to do with winning? Alabama is extremely traditionalist when it comes to their uniforms and it hasn't done anything to their ability to win. Tradition is an absolute must for certain programs especially ones that have been around longer than a century. Plus you don't have a clue how annoying the Butch Jones era was due to his oversight trying to mute the band with complete bullshit songs. I had read a few things where they were planning on phasing out the band more and more and that's just wrong. Fight songs played by the band and running through the T are traditions that should never change. If we still had Butch Jones there's no telling what other things he would've tried changing.

@trevorbarnhill33993 жыл бұрын
This video is spot on. The downfall definitely started after Tennessee fired Coach Phil Fulmer and Mike Hamilton chose Lane Kiffin over Gary Patterson, Brian Kelly, Mike Leach, and one that the video did not mention, Air Force's Troy Calhoun. When Kiffin left us out to dry right before signing day and left us with sanctions and recruits leaving, you almost couldn't get anyone of significance to come here. Instead of Dooley, Hamilton should have not pulled the trigger on a panic hire by hiring Derek Dooley. Instead, Assistant Coach Kippy Brown should have been allowed to be interim for a year to give us more time to get us a better coach. In 2012, I didn't know that Mike Gundy was interested in coming to Tennessee. I remember hearing that they talked and offered him a deal, but he stayed at Oklahoma State after getting a raise there. I remember several coaches saying they weren't interested because Dooley left the cupboard almost bare. And our top choice, Charlie Strong, ended up using the Vols to stay at Louisville with a pay raise. That is why we ended up with Jones. He was like our fifth choice, and the first one that said "Yes, I will take the job." In 2017, when Butch was fired, there were rumors that Tennessee were in talks with Gruden on being the new Head Coach. I knew Jon Gruden wouldn't come to Knoxville, but John Currie and the Administration should have came out and said that wasn't going to happen. And they should have put out feelers on who they were interested in. When it came out that Schiano was Currie's top choice and he was interested in the job, I remember like, "We could have done better, but Schiano, he's not a bad choice, either. He is an experienced and serviceable coach that could possibly turn things around." Then, when many Tennessee fans protested the hire and there was a huge backlash on social media and scared Currie into pulling out of the deal, I was telling friends, "Watch. This is not going to turn out well for the Vols as it was a bad look for our AD to back out of the deal with his top choice for Head Coach due to a vocal part of the rabid fan base. I knew we were going to get a Coach that wouldn't be as good as Butch was." And the way many of the fans reacted to the hire, that was also a bad look in the eyes of the media and rest of the World." I knew that the coaching search was going to be bad after that, but I nor anyone else anticipated how much worse and how embarrassing it was going to become. As far as hiring Pruitt, here is why I think Fulmer went after him and hired him. 1. He wanted to go the route of getting a coach from the Nick Saban coaching tree and see if he could get the next Kirby Smart. However, Pruitt wasn't a hot commodity like Kirby Smart was when Georgia hired him and Smart actually had more success as an Assistant than Pruitt. 2. The Administration and boosters wanted to go the cheap route instead of dumping a huge load of cash in the lap of a proven coach and that is another reason we ended up with Pruitt. And now, we see where that got us today.

@@jamesmoore464 I did this post over a year ago when we were still in bad shape. But we are number two in the country and ranked number one in the playoffs. Under Heupel's leadership, I will say that he has got us lightyears ahead of where I thought we'd be right now. as a Husker fan, i had the same thought. not even far off from Tennessee, hiring a former Raiders coach that was run out of the NFL lmao. and he could equally scold our fans for our lack of patience with Solich, whose only blemish was not being Tom Osborne and posting a 7-7 season in 2002 after losing his Heisman QB that helped take them to the Rose Bowl (of course, losing that was unacceptable because Husker fans would never accept a loss of any kind, much less in a championship game) but overall he was so much better than all the coaches that came after him. We did him dirty and I will always be ashamed of it for our fan base. Hopefully Frost can turn it around, some fans are already restless but most of us know it's going to take a long time to rebuild the culture and realize that top recruits don't want to go to a rebuilding program in Nebraska, they want to go to an every-year contender like Alabama, a storied franchise that still plays in big meaningful games like Ohio State, or a beautiful coastal city in California or Florida. they will only come if they believe in Frost and the program he's building, and believe they can get to the promised land and/or the NFL through Lincoln.

Thanks for this video. I watched it for the 1st time 2 years ago and for some reason it popped backup on my suggestions today. Coach Josh shows a lot of promise. I am loving our hurry up offense.Tennessee gave the playbook to Alabama on how to beat Georgia.Their defense is incredible, but we hung the most points on them all season until the SCC championship game. It's looking like the championship game might be a repeat. Looking forward to how everything goes down next season. Go Vols!

How you took a very negative situation and made me feel good with optimism for that program is amazing to me. I remember the Glory Days seeing that I am 58 years old and I followed them through these current years because my boss at work is a Tennessee fan. I hope they get back to prominence because college football is better when Tennessee is fighting and has something to say about the SEC. I'm not a Vols fan, but being on the outside looking in I have a perspective. Fulmer wasn't a bad coach, he just had a couple of bad seasons. Then there was Kiffin.....yeah, no.....it was a bad hire, there were better coaches available. Dooley was doomed from the start....when Kiffin left, the cupboard was pretty much bare as far as talent goes and he (Kiffin) took a few of the top recruits to SoCal with him. But the folks in charge didn't give Dooley enough time in my opinion. Jones got a better team than Dooley did, but he had to compete with Saban and others for the best recruits, not an enviable task. Now you have Pruitt. He's not a bad coach, and he is a very good defensive coordinator....he just needs the one thing those in charge haven't given others.....TIME.
@robjohnson88614 жыл бұрын
@@tidefanyankee2428 Yeah, a couple of losing seasons in his last 4 years. How many good coaches can claim that. Tn was on the decline bec Fulmer started it.
@tidefanyankee24284 жыл бұрын
@@robjohnson8861 I just think the firing of Fulmer was premature. I think he deserved one, maybe two more seasons, then if he couldn't have turned it around look for someone else. The thing is, Fulmer had relationships with a lot of high school coaches and recruiting is the life-blood of college football. That's a lot to throw away. I'm a Crimson Tide fan so I don't really have a dog in this fight. My personal opinion is the powers that be in Knoxville need to learn some patience and give their head coach a chance. Not everyone is a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer.
@robjohnson88614 жыл бұрын
@@tidefanyankee2428 Yeah but, Fulmer had a losing record to Spurrier, Richt, Saban, Meyer, Miles, Tuberville, Paterno, Osborne, Solich, Weis the memphis coach, the wyoming coach Friedgen and my favorite Tyyyyrooonnne Willingham at Neyland when ND was unranked and TN was #9. Premature. No, not at all.
@tidefanyankee24284 жыл бұрын
@@robjohnson8861 Looking back, would you rather have kept Fulmer until you could have found a better coach, or taken Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones? Kiffin was attractive to the Vols because they knew him and his dad Monty were a package deal. Dooley came in to clean up Kiffin's mess and the image of the team. Jones did OK but there were better coaches available as the video pointed out. Fulmer also won TN a NC.

@@ricksivley7047 I know and I see it too. It's usually older folks I see wearing orange during the week, they remember the Majors era and of course Fulmer because they lived it. I have to frequently read up on Robert Neyland and watch the late 90s and early 2000s games just to remind myself that I'm not following Vanderbilt 2.0 Clinging to the past is really all we've got anymore. It will get better. There's far too much money involved for it not to, but it'll take years. Reveling in Tennessee's tradition and atmosphere is great, but it's so damn hard to do after they get spanked every week by a team I despise. We just have to wait and see. Maybe in 10 years I'll come back to this comment and giggle about how hard we used to have it.

Awesome video. Mike Hamilton truly made some baffling decisions. It's so frustrating seeing the coaches we passed on. Thanks for pointing out how the fans are staying loyal though. We lost to Georgia St. in the opener and yet Neyland was still loud and filled to the brim versus BYU the following week. The Vols having problems is an understatement. This video was posted between the BYU and the Chattanooga game and sounded like maybe they just had a shaky start. We did win against Chattanooga but that was only a win on paper as Chattanooga looked like a sloppy high school team. After what I saw yesterday against the Gators it's clear there is absolutely very little talent on the offensive team. All of it. From the line to the receivers to the backs, including Guarantano; the talent is not there. If it weren't for the defense, this wouldn't have even been a game worth playing for Florida. What stands out for me is the lack of talent in the players and lack of continuity in the coaching and office staff. Cole Adams, your are correct. Tennessee has hit rock bottom.
