I have been using Windows Computers for almost 25 years. I have struggled using Macs in airports and internet cafes and at my brothers house for no more than ten hours over those years when i felt compelled to surf the web or read email. Now all of a sudden I have the newest Mac and find your classes invaluable. Just a shout out and a thank you.

Ive just purchased a mac book pro with El Capitan. After using macs around 10 years ago i have finally left windows behind me in the dust. So glad I'm using a Mac again and watching your videos has just helped me ease back in. Im loving it all over again. Keep up the good work.

Thanks David. I did the upgrade to El Capitan today. This video is excellent to get me started. Thanks for the access to "paper notes" to help me follow along and make notes. You are a master teacher!

I've found all your videos Very very helpful for tech dummies like me who grew up with a Bic Biro and a notepad! Not quite old enough to remember the little blackboards and chalk kids had before paper...!! You make them so interesting and easy to follow. I have my MacBook Pro open And follow all your steps whilst watching on iPad. Please don't ever stop doing them. For those 93 who gave you thumbs down, they obviously know it all!! So why were they watching??

Oh man. Split screen mode may be the single most useful enhancement to OS X that I've ever seen! This is going to increase my productivity so much, and is just a fantastic quality of life improvement. I am constantly using two apps at once! Normally with my Macbook Pro Retina, I leave the screen in "Best Fit" mode, but I think now I'm going to be using the full resolution of the Retina screen more in order to get more real estate to work with. Split screen is such a game changer for me, so awesome!
@markcollier19329 жыл бұрын
I love it too. Hopefully they will continue to update it so that it can split in more ways and work with all apps - and not require full screen. But it's definitely a step forward.

I didn't use to like Mac. Mountain Lion was the first version I learned to appreciate. And each version is better than the last. Now, I like OS X almost as much as Windows, and better than Ubuntu. I have a mac mini running on yosemite on 4GB ram, which i purchased in may this year. I was considering upgrading to the new operating system until i looked at some of the reviews on El Capitan. The new operating system apparently should run fine on macs that have been running on yosemite and certainly should run on mine however some people have experienced their mac running much slower, one mac book pro user said that it made their mac unusable due to it lagging so much in even just typing up their review and this was on a fairly new machine!. Other issues such as much increased battery consumption have been reported. Someone else using a mac mini has said their mac had become really slow. The reviews have been very mixed, some are very happy with the increased speed while others have regretted upgrading. As i am more than happy with what i have I'm not taking the risk as yet until these issues have been addressed. Thank you David and team for what you do, you really helped me in learning how to use my mac after years of using MS windows. -Mark.
@markcollier19329 жыл бұрын
I have two Mac Minis and they are both running great with El Capitan, but there's certainly no rush for you to update. You'll be just fine with Yosemite as well.
@markjayne9359 жыл бұрын
+Mark Collier Yes mark i would agree, there is not a lot of difference between yosemite and el capitan as i can gather. Think the mac mini is a great machine, saved us a lot of money on electricity too as the lap top we were using certainly was not as economical to run. I will stay with yosemite for now.

David Cox: I represent the ultimate in OS clashes: I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Novell administrator, and my lovely wife of 35 years is a nationally celebrated Art teacher, completing her Doctorate in Elementary Art education. To put it lightly, I am an IBM/Windows/Linux guy, she is a Apple girl. Who says the two can't coexist? I recently bought my wife an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) to go with her MacBook Pro. Incorporating this iMac into my Microsoft centric world makes me feel a bit like I am drinking out of a fire hose. I wanted to give a shout out to you thanking you for your videos and user guides, they are really helping me get over my steep learning curve. (BTW... what happened to the El Capitan user guide referenced above? The link leads to a closing web page... was it moved?) I have one other problem that I unfortunately fear that even you can't help me with. In using this iMac to get up to speed on all things Apple, I have discovered a troubling issue... I am really beginning to like it. Thanks again for your help!

Hi David. I tried to watch your live stream last Oct 1st at 9 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, but when I logged on to KZbin it said the video has been removed. This was about 9:50 pm so I was a bit late to the game but I assumed it would last at least a full hour. Your other live streams seem to appear as recorded videos on KZbin after you've completed them. There doesn't seem to be one for El Capitan. Did you actually do the livestream? Will it ever be on KZbin as prerecorded? Is there any other information in that live stream that didn't appear in this video? Thanks again for all your help

Here's another change in El Capitan. In Yosemite, you can use Disk Utility to erase a Rewritable CD. But in El Capitan, in order to erase a rewritable CD you need to do the following. Open the finder and select the CD. Then, while holding down the CONTROL KEY, click the trackpad and select ERASE REWRITABLE CD. Hope this helps.
