The thing on the tree is probably a geocache. In that metal container is probably a paper to log your name onto. I have been hunting them a bit. Usually they are better hidden so you have to search more.. can be a night cache if there was reflectors there somehow… and the small things in the plastic bag is probably for trading. You take an item and put one of your item there. Anyway. Nice setup for a saw and a hatchet. What a great job to dream that pouch up my friend. Happy new year my friend.

Well done, Dave! ingenious as ever. I bet every Bush crafter and survivalist on the planet would love digging thru your gear room / man cave. You have found the solution to problems the others have not realized they have. You have inspired me into taking up sewing. Just making simple bags and stuff sacks so far. Also repaired my blue jeans and modified my T-shirts. But I am happy with it so far. Uco makes I simple candle lantern, but they also make a candle heater called the candelier. Something simple like that should be able to heat the Frankinshelter, just do not forget some ventilation.

My mom gave me her heavy duty sewing machine a few years ago because I always loved to sew and my sisters didn't. I make leather sheaths and pouches and the darn thing sews right through leather like butter, I love using it. I loved walking and exploring areas just like what your in when I lived in Macon, Georgia years ago. I live in North Texas now and no swamps to walk in. Great job on the pouch. Works really great.

Excellent project. You are an inspiration to me.. Just a thought, when carrying a saw, i usually reverse the sides ( blade facing inwards when in "carry mode" or "storage mode" ) so it doesnt damage the bag or accidentally injure myself when fetching something else in the tool box/ bag. Afterall this is not a gun to pull out of the holster and shoot. It hardly takes few seconds to reverse the sides.

My friend came over and was going to sit on the log. He picks up the tomahawk and slams it down into another piece, not realizing the sheath was on it! Cut straight through the kevlar thread I'd hand-sewn it with. That stuff ain't cheap! LOL. So I stitched it back, good as new. Good combo to carry, always a great video!

"El cheapo, homemade", better then anything you can buy made in the last two decades that isn't a cottage vendor. I really like my silky, opinel saw, and hatchet combo, now though. I do have a brand new bahco blade for a crafted bucksaw/bowsaw. I have a bunch of heavy canvas I've been waxing. Dave, as an alternate to the plastic bits and pieces that most of us throw out, how about using small diameter PVC tubing. Cut to length. Then cut down the middle. Using your grill or oven, slightly soften and mold it around the blade. Or not. Or not,, not trying to steal your thunder.

Thanks for the sewing project ☺️ also those items on the tree looks like those trinkets used for people who go on..., can't remember what it's called, but you go on an expedition with clues and when you find the spot you take a piece and leave something for the next person to take. Anyway, enjoyed your video. Have a great New Year ❣️

Awesome project, i cant sew but my wife is really good, am designing a frame pouch for my bike to hold axe and other bits inside main triangular section of my bike. One thought I had which you might like is on the inside of your pouch in the middle between the blade and handle you could have a sleeve or two to stuff some tinder and a fire kit and knife in - great work fella as always

I'm pretty sure it's a geocache. A little reward for tramping through the swamp. Very nice saw/hatchet combo pouch. I'm getting into sewing back packs and pouches myself. Looking at your pouch I can see a couple things I would change or add. I'd add a couple eyelets to the bottom of that ax pouch for drainage and do away with the top flap and use that horizontal web with a couple of buckles to hold the handle still. I'm looking forward to some great new Reallybig adventures in the year to come. Thanks for posting

Ive never seen a double bit hatchet before. I would love to have one. Also i have 4 bow saws that are the larger size. I saw a small one at a flea mkt but didnt buy it. Wish i had😣 Good video. Thanks for the info.
@jamesellsworth96732 жыл бұрын
COUNCIL TOOLS makes a version of this Nessmuk favorite. Each bit has a different grind: one for chopping; one for slicing or carving. Hammer pegs in with the flat. As the Man said: the hatchet is not ideal for any of those purposes BUT it is versatile and gets those three jobs done in a pinch.
@Reallybigmonkey12 жыл бұрын
My hatchet is a Marbles, as far as I know they still make it. Man never turn down a used bow saw, they are like gold! Thanks for watching Sam

The one in this video is a Marbles but I guarantee a Council tool hatchet would be a lot better!

Hello Dave, I first started watching your videos maybe 5 years ago, when it became clear to me the necessity of gaining some idea of what was needed to live outdoors. I was living in my own house at that time, and was providing some help to the local homeless. A year or so later one of the previously homeless, that at that time also lived in my home lost her leg to an infection, and I became their care provider out of necessity. Some months later my home was repossessed, and thankfully my now disabled friend was rehoused in her own flat. I'm still her care provider by day, but I sleep in a tent every night in a nearby wooded area. Without the information you kindly share, my current situation would be so much more difficult. Thank you.

I'm sure someone already pointed it out but that match case on the tree was probably a geocache. The case holds a log that people sign when they find it. Love the case. I'd love to make one with molle straps for my double bit marbles hatchet. Great video bud.

Great job on the Bow Saw/Hatchet Pouch Dave! That's great that you made it to fit on the Alice pack, awesome. I have an Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 folding bow saw which is lightweight and folds down to a straight piece which isn''t very wide. They also make a pouch with a shoulder sling that I got for it. They now have a Boreal 24 that has a 24" blade. Great saws, but more expensive than your bargain bin one. Wish we had one of those Amazon stores here in Michigan. That's the 2nd time I've heard of that type of store. A KZbin channel from Missouri mentioned one also. Happy new year buddy! 👍🪚🪓

Uncle Dave, that is about the COOLEST THING, I have ever seen!!! Don’t ya just love it when a plan comes together 👍 And as to that moss covered thing hanging from the tree 😐?? At first I thought maybe it was a little capsule of a bit of a persons cremations, you know when there’s a person who just loves being out in that area, and when the family cremates him they put a little part of out where he loved the best! But then the little pouch of spider toys?? I thought I bet you it’s one of those Geocaching, things! Yeah I didn’t know what that was till I looked it up, You’ll have to look it up to see about it, but basically people all over the World do this GPS treasure hunt!! Great video!!!

Dave, I hadda laugh & comment over the little "tree decoration" that you found on your shakedown hike. Having spent MANY hours hiking and kayaking around in Arkansas' flooded woods, mostly chasing ducks, I've experienced both sides of "that coin." I've heard tales, even of lost and found shotguns, waders and hunting coats, as well as spent HOURS searching fot such items lost by friends!! I'm not sure I'd been able to leave such a thing behind, considering the obvious passage of time since the original owner hung it up to "prevent loss...!!!" 😂
@Reallybigmonkey12 жыл бұрын
I had no idea what it was at the time but all the commenters are saying it's a Geocache. Oh, I'd love to find some waders or a shotgun!

Gallon milk jug plastic and the wife's best clothing iron and you can create many knife holders and the edge protectors you need. Practice with the heat settings to "glue" or roll the edges. Get your own iron so the Mrs. doesn't make you a permanent camper...:) I collect Goodwill bags and luggage just for the HD zippers I need. I have such a collection!

Ah, never tried milk jug material. I definitely will. You and I think alike, I butcher bags for parts from Goodwill too!
