I'm getting the new version of El Grande, today. Super excited to revisit this game. It was great seeing this video as I started looking to revisit the game. Loved the video. Keep it up.

Great review mate. Always nice to see your honest reviews! I'm thinking about getting the recently-released version as the original is so hard to cum across!!! Whoops! Come across. As you mentioned in the video, its a "no fluff" version of area control, which makes it more accessible to family games, without all the minis etc. Have you had the chance to check out the new version? It add a few mini expansions, and seems to be quite reasonably priced@ 50 bucks here in Spain. Many thanks for your continued insight into the world of board game bollocks.

While the proliferation of boardgames is generally a good thing. What we dont like about it is there's now a sense you have to get the latest and fanciest. Makes some of the great games that are older recede to the forgotten shadows, and introduces a bit of a stigma on them. its a worthy service to keep the light shining on them.

How does it play with three people? I’m considering that new $35 edition, so I’m curious to hear your thoughts on that. The aesthetics seem like a lateral move, but I hear it’s far easier to read at a glance. Thanks!

@@BoardGameBollocksfinally got in my first game last night, and it may have instantly entered my top ten. I’m not usually big on take-that, but I think it worked for me here because everyone is giving as good as they get, and it’s not like one person dropping a nuke on another. None of the bad stuff is a game-ender. What an astounding design!

I really like your reviews. I did want to ask if this works for two players?
@BoardGameBollocks4 ай бұрын
You can play with 2 players but it’s best at 4/5

I think there are two 'Holy Grail' tabletop games that have simple rules to teach them for even casual players yet have descent dephts to be interesting even for geeks: El Grande and Concordia.

Could be right there. Although I did play Alien Frontiers recently and it’ sort of scratches the same itch.

It’s up there for sure. Strange it hasn’t ever got a true 2nd edition, but then I quite like the rustic feel.
