HP Umpire Lew Williams ejected Chihuahuas 3B Coach Oscar Salazar after El Paso refused to send a batter to home during a game vs ALB. Report: www.closecalls...
Triple-A West's El Paso-Albuquerque matchup featured an odd pace of play delay as El Paso, trailing 3-0 in the top of the 5th inning against the Isotopes, refused to place a batter in the batter's box, leading Williams to enforce Official Baseball Rule 5.04(b)(3) regarding pace of play/refusal to occupy batter's box by calling automatic strikes, which turned into an automatic out on would-be batter Taylor Kohlwey.
After potentially warning El Paso manager Edwin Rodriguez of a possible forfeit if the team continued to employ tactics palpably designed to delay or shorten the game (or outright refused to continue play), El Paso send the next batter to the box and play resumed, with El Paso coming back to score three runs before the game was ultimately suspended due to weather.
