The president of El Salvador launched an unprecedented war on the gangs that have long plagued the Central American country, arresting an astounding 65,000 suspects and building a huge new prison to hold them. It is astonishing to see. Let me tell you about it.
The Mob Reporter here with news of the state of emergency declared one year ago, that allows special powers to root out street gangs that controlled many Salvadoran communities. They publicize the strict crackdown with in-your-face images, turning the strong-arm tactic into a slick, publicity campaign. El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, boasts he now runs “the most criticized prison in the world.” It certainly has its critics, but also many fans. Have a look at this extraordinary facility in extraordinary circumstances.

Just remember MS13 did not start in El-Salvador but in Los Angeles, CA the United States exported and even profited off that problem indirectly it is just the El-Salvador is another Latin speaking country that is starting to use simple revolutionary tactics. First the Anti-Austerity protestors in 2012 in Spain with their bottle rockets successfully driving police officers back. The Zapatistas used the internet to spread their message in 1999 Now Bitcoin with the Salvadorean president using that to rely on the nation's economy. If it wasn't for the Bitcoin he would have never pulled this off. Once upon a time the US Government in 2012? tried to label people who first invest in Bitcoin or any alternative currency as potential money launderers. Now Bitcoin is accepted to where in some convenience stores there are Bitcoin ATM machines. Bitcoin saved that Country!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hispanized countries are notorious for pulling off revolutionary acts!!!!!!!!!!!! they are the reasons why Black Lives Matter is bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had many El Salvadorian coworkers who fled the violence they were subjected to due to these brutal gangs, who often target teens and innocent people. They were so overjoyed with what's been happening and even remarking that they intend on returning home. I think El Salvadorians have a lot to be proud of here, and it shows that being tough on crime is effective when in the right hands. I myself am even thinking of buying some land there if this stability continues over the next few years -- if not, then Chile. I would love to bring my business (and tax money) to hardworking people who care about their country and communities.

What kills me is that there are plenty here in the good old USA no less, that have the gall to criticize these measures "El Salvador" has taken when indeed there are THOUSANDS of innocent people dying in our city streets across the land on the count of the very same circumstance. Right here in the USA, where criminals are now being allowed to walk scot-free without bail, and occasionally without charge(s), on the count of some of the most asinine criminal reform laws known to man! And leaving the honest citizen, our kids, our elderly, our tourists a sitting ducks to prey upon. I applaud el "Presidente Bukele" and the people of "El Salvador" on their newly found peace! This American is envious of your leader and your resolve, BRAVO!

Yep, they've voluntarily revoked their status as humans by deciding to join a criminal gang. The right to humane treatment is everyone's birthright, but gang members obviously spit on that right, so let them get a taste of their own remedy (if they need it so desperately) 👍
@TheSupriest
@TheSupriest Жыл бұрын
At what age did they decided to join gangs? Because a vast majority of them are children when they are recruited by gangs to earn some money. It is really the easy path to demonize people so we don't have to treat them as human being, and most importantly that prevents to ask the difficult questions about economics inequalities, school fundings, access to medical care, family planning centres, etc,. And I won't even talk about the fact that the US holds a great responsability in the thrive of MS13 and others, by sending gang members by the thousands in Salvador years ago with no concern of the consequences for this poor country. Also, when you start treating people as animals, considering them as sub humans, you have a great chance of becoming like them. We have seen that in numerous occasions through history in the carceral systems around the world, from the goulags to Abu Ghraib. you resolve the problem for some times, and then the prisonners become more violent, more mentally unstable. If there is no rehabilitation programm at all, nothing to do, you will have a very serious problem on your hands in the long term. Also there is the problem of people being arrested while innocents, because in a perpetual state of emergency the police can arrest anyone solely based on suspicions and denunciation. And people have no recourse whatsoever. I'd like to remind you that this kind of practice was widely used in Iraq by the American army, which ultimately led to the radicalization of prisoners.

The problem in Mexico is the cartels and local, state and federal government are all profiting from the drug trade and cartel members are hard to spot as they don't have their cartel affiliation tattooed all over their faces. In the US the problem would be that it would appear highly racialized, and images of black and brown bodies bring processed by white prison guards would not sit well with the public. Yes, we have crime in the US but nowhere near the level of brutality that the Maras unleashed on the people of El Salvador. The Mexican cartels, while also brutal and sadistic, tend to target eachother and sadly even the families of rival cartels, but the avg Mexican is not being hacked up and dissolved in acid for no reason by the cartels.

I think it was Wendover productions who made a great video on this he said something like, “If the Salvadorians want to democratically elect a dictator for the betterment of their country, let them do that. It is not the place of the West to harp on them for making a safer country for themselves. Some rights in America are not protected in El Salvador, therefore it is unfair to attribute constitutional rights here to there.

Good for El Salvador, however you are on the clock. Every month this state of emergency continues is another month closer to a totalitarian state, and then all the citizens will be in a prison. As for the prisoners, you should be able to start moving the less dangerous ones to work farms and giving them privileges. If they have no path back to society you might as well end them now because if they ever get out…

@SaltyBrains "A percentage of them are completely innocent" A SMALL percentage forsure. You have to look at the bigger picture and weigh into consideration the much larger percentage of people that aren't being killed indiscriminately by the majority of these gang members because they aren't still running around the streets. I know personally I would rather be innocent and locked up for life as that small percentage than I don't know.... being set on fire and dismembered by one of these guys after they abuse and murder your family and make you watch. Just don't get MS13 tattoos all over your body and you should be fine... statistically of course. No matter what jail in the whole world there will always be someone who's actually innocent and still locked up. It comes with the territory.

You can feel the presence of these gangs in LA, I think the El Salvadorian president has done some godawful things, but cracking down on gangs and labelling them as terrorists, is a right step for El Salvador. Heard so many horror stories from that country, I hope the citizenry can rest easier. I just worry about the amount of power their government is taking, something needs to keep them in check that they don't go too far and start punishing citizens if it ever comes to that.
