He also bashes/pushes with his off hand form neutral. It isn't realistic because he could have gotten yet another cross-check bash like LB/Griffin, but it's another unique animation that's justified by one handing the main weapon.

I was thinking the exact same thing as too low base dmg, it’s literally a sohei gb spamming to get his souls instead of actually trying to play the game as intended just to get 1 shot. In low level lobbies he’s OP and in high level he’s garbage as his unblockables are so low damage you can risk not parrying, risking 20 damage over risking half of 95 damage (150 in dominion)

I love how sohei unlike every other hero isn't fighting to remove a heroes health bar, but instead your playing a mini game of ok I need to collect all my different souls, which is so unique and I don't care what balance changes they do so long as that remains his core identity. Anything to get as far away from orange-blue mix up heroes as possible

I completely agree with the saying "All or Nothing" for this hero, and I believe it needs to change. It is unfortunate that the Sohei needs a rework upon release, but that's how it goes with experiments and trying new things. Here are some rework ideas: Sohei changes - Soul rework, Feat rework, and light finisher variety Soul rework: A new soul type is added, Natural Souls and Tempory Souls are the types. Natural Souls are acquired upon landing finishers and function the same as current. Temporary Souls come from Gaurd Breaks and work similarly to revenge. Last for the fight but soon disappears after. Feat rework: This will be a long one cause there's so many different ways they could "fix" his feats. Realistically, alter his 2nd and 3rd Feat. Make it based on soul count rather than an on/off switch. Once again, gradual build-up rather than fishing for explosive power. Light finishers: Fairly simple, no new animations just adjusted properties. The left and right light could be undogable, and the top could be unblockable. Or get crazy and allow one side to have armor. You get the gist.

I agree on most of what you said, but not on the last part, makes his shoto light(left side) undodgeable, make his mini kanabo light(top) enhanced, make his sickle light do a tiny bit bleed damage. Overall reduce his oneshot damage immensely, to like 60-65 dmg, buff his GB lights and heavies to 15dmg overall(5 for each hit), make his unblockables do like 2-5 more dmg and make his light finishers do 10-13-12 dmg, shoto 10dmg, kanabo 13dmg, sickle 8+4 dmg... obviously his feats need work then, 1st feat reduce the debuff to 15% more damage and reduce its active time, switch his 2nd feat and 3rd feat around, but as you said, make it a gradual build up, But obviously his healing and damage shouldn't be immense per soul, because he has a relative easy time getting 3 souls with his 400ms lights.

Just to share this is my take on Sohei, Soul Stacking Rework/Adjustment Light Parry = rewards 2 souls Heavy Parry = rewards 1 soul Guardbreak = rewards 1 soul Shifting the stack reward system to parries and gb make it more accessible in 4v4 and more balanced in 1v1. This rids Sohei of being gb dependent and confined to spamming the direction assigned to the weapon without soul stacks. keep the other movesets but add a light to heavy/heavy to light chain to create flow and mixup potential for baiting gb or parries. Balance light attack damage values. Light parry and GB punishes will be standard heavy attack, with damage based on other heavy type characters, from any direction and initiates chain just like most of the roster. Feat Reworks/Adjustments Ancillary Might - transfer to 1st feat option, a passive damage buff depending on number of souls stacked. Maximum buff at 6 souls. buff value must be adjusted depending on how ubi balances light and heavy attack damage values. *keep the stacks for max damage on team fights or use stacks on a high threat opponent. eliminates Sohei's tendency of being a 1 hit wonder. Eye of the Demon - transfer to 2nd feat option (just like Inspire and Chilling stare) and adjust the cooldown accordingly. Soul Soother - transfer to 3rd feat option but make it a fixed amount of heal depending on number of stacked souls. Base heal costs 2 souls = 30 health, plus 10 health every additional soul stacked. 6 souls = 70 health (half of sohei's base max health). cooldown depends on how much souls are used. *choose whether to keep the stacks and damage buffs or use stacks to heal and survive longer. damage buff resets on heal activation. Soul Walker - Instant 6 souls leave as is. failed impale finisher costs 1 soul. instead of losing 6. Impale Finisher still only accesible at max stacks with 70dmg can be buffed by feats and bleed or fixed at 70dmg but interruptible(?) or with hyperarmor(?) and grants shield only on confirmed kill. 70dmg just enough to kill a half health heavy character. *makes the impale finisher a weapon against the toughest ones on the enemy team and not a move you can dish out 1 shotting freshly spawned opponents. I know ubi ain't gonna read this but this is just how I think of adjusting Sohei. This is all speculation. Feel free to disagree.

@@snarkyt5929so short said, your idea is to make a different hero with a soul system, the parry idea is REALLY BAD, it just encourages turtling and turtling is ALREADY a massive problem in FH... the idea of his oneshot is to be a higher risk high reward move, something they have stopped implementing as it isn't "Viable", sohei is a experiment, and overall a massive step in the right direction for For Honor, satisfaction and Fun over viability... soheis souls work just fine, obviously as stated his feats, they should be a gradual buildup not on/off, the hero is really cool, he doesn't need a big rework, just a L/H chain, some work on his feats and lower oneshot damage and higher base damage and bang, he is the most unique hero we've gotten in the last 4 years. but hey, we all just stating our opinions, no bad blood with anyone. have a good one.

It needs to stay undodgable because it works to counter assassins accidentally or purposely option selecting by dodging to the side and deflecting. By being a top undodgable, it catches anyone who tries to side dodge and forces the opponent to have to see the undodgable coming in order to deal with it. Because only dodging into the enemy will deflect.

I've thought that they could give Sohei a heavy-light and light-heavy chain, but using the Kama-Yari instead of his soul weapons (500ms chain lights and normal chain heavies), that way he'd have more options and be less clunky, but he'd still be restricted for soul-gathering. I think they did a pretty good job but they didn't want him to be too powerful in terms of his moveset. Maybe the left light should be undodgable and the top unblockable. The light, heavy chain should just be added and the thing i want to see is the ability to choose every attack from his gb punish to be either light or heavy. That way you'd be able to collect souls for weapons you actually need the souls for instead of doing three heavies when you need only one soul for a heavy weapon.

@@forestgamez7824 nah. The 3 hit punish is cool and is a big part of the fun i get playing this character. If his attacks and punishes were dealing normal amount of damage you'd use his ultimate on a low HP oponent which would grant less satisfaction. I mean the numbers could be adjusted a bit but i think he should deal less damage than normal. It is the closest thing we got to a grappler character. I'm probably gonna play him until ubi realeases a dedicated grappler.

This character single handedly made me come back to the game. He looked so interesting, so unique, I just wanted to try him out. And you know what, I love him, but only when he works. His aesthetics, his voice lines, his 'one shot', its all peak. But yes, you're completely right about the "Highest of highs, lowest of lows." I do just hope they can get some changes onto Sohei, because he could be the most interesting and fun character in the game.

I had a weird idea for this character in the shower(im only rep 28 total so if this is terrible my apologies) . When he collects all 6 souls, he gains the ability to Invigorate himself via backstep guardbreak. While Invigorated, his attacks deal maybe 3-4 more damage overall(excluding his zone), and he can do heavy-light chains or light-heavy chains. His heavys also speed up by maybe 100ms. Using Invigorate would consume either all of his souls, or only half of them(selected at random if this is chosen) you also cannot perform sevenfold strike during invigorate, nor can you gain souls. Maybe allow the player to end it early but that might be doing too much.

Played this guy today for 2 games in dominion. No light to heavy or heavy to light feels downright crazy underwhelming. Had to switch off before I lost my mind. No hero ever should be restricted from having a standard chain that every single other hero has. You have no pressure because of it, enemy knows you have to throw chain a light or a heavy every single time, so you can't feint gb after a neutral light, which almost is the staple move in the entire game. You can never get your stacks up while getting spammed unblockables from 3 ways. Sohei needs to be improved asap.

I think sohei should still have every 2 hit combo but he uses the spear, but at any point in chain use back + light/heavy to use the weapons on his back. That way he could still have normal chains with his spear and then to acquire souls he can end any chain with the weapons on his back.

Sohei is conceptually one of the coolest characters we’ve ever gotten in the game, but most of his move set is horribly lacking and it feels like he should be able to do a lot more than what he actually can. It’s feels like we only have about a third of his legitimate move.

I’ve kinda just had in my head, have multiple three hit chains, and each chain has different properties and uses different weapons, still keeping everything else, I’d prefer sohei to have more moves that revolve around using his weapons and different ways you could chain weapons, as an example, a triple light chain would involve his knife wakasashi thing. Although adding all variations of a three hit chain, or most three hit chains would make him more of a hybrid, I still think this would make him a lot more interesting to play

Here my crack at it: Lower the finisher to 50 or 60 dmg. Thats Cent and Jorms old finisher dmgs before the CCU, and theirs were easier to pull off. Then, buff his dmg accordingly. Make his Left Light Finisher be the Undodgeable, let his Top LF be a Stun/Blind, and let his Right LF be forced movement to the Left like Nuxias Heavy Finishers. Give him the two other two hit chains, and make it so his heal feat scales off soul count and not only be a full restore with full souls. If I were to add something else, i would like to see him have a third type of zone, where if you zone after a neutral or chain zone, its a finisher that gets early Hyperarmor and gives him Frame Advantage on Block.

I think that they should change the ultimate move to be like 45-60 damage. Still a monstrous amount but allows for the rest of his moveset to gain some damage. Like putting his base moveset just below average. Not bottom of the rung as it is now

I think lowering the damage of the ultimate and increasing the damage on his normal attacks is not a good idea. It’s a step towards homogenizing one of the only unique characters in the game, and instead of trying to fix it with the normal problem solving mindset for forhonor, we try to find more unique ways to make the character stronger. For instance, how about attacks with weapons that you already have souls for do increased damage, so you still have to interact with his kit and it makes his unblockable finishers more threatening. I also think he should have better faint timings and a little forward momentum on his finisher heavies so he can actually help gank

In fights 1vs2 as sogei when i have full souls charged i like to gb 1 enemy and throw im at the second one so they are both staggered and i can use my main move

Honestly my problem with modern heroes is animation and movesets. The last 3 heroes are carbon copies of each other (not counting sohei) in terms of the moveset, and their animations are just reused animations from older heroes and tweaked to make them look more shit. Take story mode LB for example. All the animations flow together smoothly, he switches his hands when he switches stances, the animation of the attacks he throws out change depending on which side he threw them out of (eg the final top light after throwing a side combo), the heroes have their own gimmicks and concepts, the damage numbers actually felt proportional to the heroes designs, and not to mention minion kill animations. The for honor team has just progressively started putting less and less effort into the heroes while charging the same amount for them on release. However sohei is the first tiny step into the right direction I feel. Although Ubi is most likely going to take 10 steps back afterwards...

In a sense of realism, Sohei would definitely be applying more dmg than Nuxia. For how she is in-game, she is based around making offensive reads at every given moment, she's a glass cannon, it's her identity and there's nothing wrong with that. Sohei is built around a build up to preform a singular move that compensates having a variety of mix-ups, which in all fairness, i don't really like, if ubisoft could implement him being able to chain between his heavies and lights, he would be pretty solid, he's just on the edge of being perfect, i only have a problem with his T2 not having a cooldown, because he could infinitely heal as long as he had full stack of souls. Sohei's offense has to be respected, with Nuxia's you can just carelessly ignore and not forced to make a read despite her offense being built around it.

I haventbplayed him yet, but from the ones Ive fought and the gameplay ive seen. Just leave him as is, he looks fun either way.

Honestly I see two ways to fix it: 1. Give him basic chains to make him less restrictive but keep his damage low as it is now 2. Up his damage everywhere while reducing the seven force strike to 75 or at the minimum 60, but at the same time keep him restricted

Option 2 is what I’m thinking. Increasing the base damage on lights to 10/11 and all the heavies to at least 24/26, but limiting the ult damage down to 75. It’d still be very high, but not one shot potential. Even without a damage tweak, a L-H/H-L chain would do him well.

I haven’t touched for honor in a while but it’s really nice to see news about a hero that just isn’t a infinite chain full of properties with little to no innovation. I really like you have to activate your weapons then can use special finishers for each weapon and if you activate them all you get a funny attack. I def agree keep pumping out unique characters cause for honor was getting stale with the 7th infinite ub chain hero in a row that was meta

Personally, I hope he stays the same way. He's not in like with the rest of the cast but that's what makes him so interesting. Lowering the damage of the ultimate and increasing the damage of his other attacks is the same type of homoginization that this game desperately needs to avoid

I respect what they tried to do but they played it super safe which is smart but you can’t make a character have to think this much and have such little damage when you have the most played hero’s having extreme levels of damage and pressure without having to think at all like I played him for 2 reps then I realized how dog he is so now I’m grinding out my nuxia reps since there’s still a good amount of them the fact that I can play nuxia in dominion against a full team of heavy’s and still end the game with 16K and 2D is F’ing insane they did not cook been waiting for big boi that isn’t as dumb as medjay but this isn’t it goki and bringer are still alone

I feel like he is a bit slept on in duels, I have a 70% winrate in duels as him. You don't even need your one shot most of the time, people are just so scared of getting gbed it makes them easy to read.

I personally got bored after one day of playing him, i was getting interupted by everything and everyone. My team mates were lighting my one shot and i barely could get 6 souls. His right heavy animation is just disgusting and it doesnt make sense that a big dude with a big hammer does 20 dmg. Left and right lights are just there...its so boring and lazy. Idk if im going to even get him to 6 rep.

imo 1) ult dmg- 75 2) all other attacks increased dmg per soul 3) having a weapon with a soul, get parried, removes the soul from that weapon. 4) tier 1 feat is now a mark for death, killing someone ( with ult only) grants you souls back

His power level is both dogshit and completely busted. In a duel he's mostly fine, but in dominion I wouldn't say he's the most broken OP thing ever, but he's definitely not fun to play against. Respawning and running to C just to find a Sohei with full stacks is so demoralizing. I am going to die, there's nothing I can do besides literally play perfectly. His feats make this worse. 25% DR as a T1? What the fuck? Having the option to either insta kill his enemy or full heal if he's unsuccessful? Boring. The gimmick is a great idea, but making it center around a literal insta kill is a terrible idea. Buff his base damage, nerf the ultimate to 45-50, and then go from there.

I'm still convinced that sohei is another example of why Ubisoft doesn't actually play their game. When they come up with something really cool in concept, they just tack it down with some unnecessary baggage that seems to be a part of their balance philosophy and it drains the fun out of it, all while a few, arguably, minor changes they could do would make the character more fun and have equal balance with the rest of the game's characters.

Sohei is just a big dissapointment for me. Having One Shot ability is cool, but what's the purpose of it, when 80% of time, you play with boring ass kit. Like cmon, you have 6 fookin weapons and he has only one stance? Like you could do so many things with this but all we have is this........ He looks great and all that, but I feel like weapons don't matter in anyway in this game. What's the point of multiple weapons, when all they are for is different animafion for everyside. Heavies have it more interesting, but it doesn't matter much anyway.

Top tier garbage design. Both weak as well as feeling unfair. The only way to balance him to stop people from complaining is by nerfing his only strength, his identity, which will make him suck, so the point of his "nuke" will disappear because it will become just another attack with good damage. Ubi got the foresight of fish.

Each of his weapons should do something different, his top unlockable could do knockback, the right side unlockable could be like glads skewer, and maybe his side lights do bleed or be enhanced

His left light should be a crushing counter and his right light should be like nuxia traps but only in the right
