I generally like your reviews. I think you are correct about a lot of what you say. But I think you missed the boat on these speakers. Andrew Jones didn't design these speakers to be bass heavy. So when you're talking sub 50 hz, it's kind of a mute point. If the music your listening to goes sub 50 hz you can always get a sub. I mostly listen to jazz and classical music. And the way these speakers are balanced make them superior performers in these styles of music. The midrange is glorious. The soundstage is big and the midrange/treble instruments sing sparkling clear. It has enough bass to support this music well. It's in the same ilk as the Kef ls50's that all pop/rock listeners seem to bash for their lack of bass. They play acoustical instruments gloriously, may not have super big bass, but not everyone listens to music requiring sub 50hz bass. I'm sure a lot of people who buy the Kefs, buy them for my style of music. Not everyone has the same wants or needs in a speaker. I personally would not want a speaker that leans leans bass heavy. I want the sparkling mids and highs with a balanced bass that supports but does not overpower the main melodic instruments in the ensemble. I want my speakers to reproduce the performances I'm listening to as honestly and uncolored as possible. These speakers are really good at that.

it's okay bro, sometimes we might disagree :) I do very much appreciate that you didn't just disagree but also took the time to explain, I love that! @@glennjones6574 The burn-in would be in the suspension systems of the drivers (surrounds and spiders). The drivers should have a lower resonant frequency after burn-in, and a higher Cms. The change would be practically unnoticeable. Most of the burn-in is mental, as you said. It doesn't hurt to exercise the drivers to half of Xmax before critical listening/evaluating, via test tones or music.

I just picked up the 6.5 towers, bookshelves and center used for $500. Family member. I’m pretty happy with them. I played around with the towers by themselves a little bit. Personally I really like them. Soundstage is great. I can tell where everyone in the band is supposed to be situated on the stage. Vocals sound like they’re coming from the center channel that wasn’t connected. Sounded like I had front wide, height and surround running. I think they may just be true to the recording and not adding extra color to it. I am happy I have a subwoofer for even the towers though. My Klipsch Reference 12 sounds good with them. For home theater I’m happy with them too. I’m not using a great receiver with them either. Right now I’m running them on a Denon AVR S960W. My old Integra DTR 50.4 is in the other room and I’m going to try them with that at some point too.

I have these speakers. When I first got them I didn't like them. Sounded flat, bright, recessed lower mids (snare hits and such had no impact) and very fatiguing. But I stuck with them anyway. After a couple of weeks they started to open up. Warmer, punchier, still bright but less so with the grills on. Definitely much more impressive than when I first got them. I've since replaced them with the UB52's (found them for €339 so why the hell not right) and I've set them up in another room. Also own the original UB5's for my home theater setup as well as some Dalis so I have some decent reference points for comparison. All done with a sub btw. Long story short if you buy these speakers, give them time. Not days, but weeks. They'll grow on you, guaranteed.

Those Emotivas are that good, eh? Good to know. By the way, I have pretty much always valued feedback from regular guys FAR more than "professional reviewers". You are the the best example Ive come across as to why. Maybe you have us all fooled, but I get the sense you are 100% candid and honest in your feedback. I never know what conflicts of interest or, uh, financial incentives are at play with the "pro" guys. (I wont mention names, but several of them have a youtube presence.) So anyway, blowing a bit of sunshine up ur ass for a Tuesday, but just know that you're appreciated brother. You help a lot of people make GREAT choices in gear. PS: The Skylan stands I saw on your channel are the best Ive ever owned. So thanks again for the suggestion. Absolutely fantastic products that help my NOLAs sing.

I appreciate that AJ, I'll take all the sunshine I can get :D I think we all try to be as candid as possible, it's just that some people have a harder time with it due to their personality, and others may fear losing relationships and this is where the reviewer must ask themselves are they working for the viewers or are they working for the manufacturers. Me personally I'm very comfortable with confrontation, I don't care if a company is "upset with me" I'm fairly old fashion when it comes to "hurt feelings", they're a business so they should put on their big boy pants and learn to take some criticism.

@@NemoPropaganda Very well said. Your feedback is always inclusive of "warts". Its important to have that side of the equation. Im sure audio companies want their stuff showcased in the best light possible, but if a reviewer cant be honest and candid, then there is far less value to the viewer. I think most of your audience would agree that your feedback offers some of the best overall value on youtube 🤘

I agree... the 5.2 it lacks in some areas... that's why I purchased the 6.2 pretty big difference and for $50 more it's well worth going with the 6.2. Debuts. Also they are picky with placement. I was very disappointed when I first set them up... then I moved them around a few times and finally got them to sound pretty decent... i tried them with my JBL subwoofer and it didn't impress... so I agree with you on it being a challenge to pair a sub with it... it did pair well with my Paradigm 10" subwoofer

I cannot agree to some points. I own two pair of the 5.2 and I am very happy with it. There is plenty of base in my smal to mid-size rooms and it gets very low. I retired my subwoofer because of these speakers, believe me or not, it´s enough for daily use. I general I think the sound is great and I heard the KEF Q350, the Elac Debut Reference 62. Take the 5.2 with a cheap class D amp like the Aiyima A05 and be happy about a good cheap system. I think you must come down from the base hype. (The Emotiva B1+ is not sold in my country)

Thanks for the review. I have a couple of questions and comment after watching your video. What style of music do you usually listen too? I am looking for some speakers and I like to listen to rap or stuff with some nice bass and after watching some YT videos on speakers I feel that audiophile world is mostly to less bass based music, e.g. jazz (which is also very nice and I enjoy to listen sometime but not my primary music type let's say) so they seems to like more medium rich (for instruments) speakers. Is this correct? From your review, you seem disappointed by the Elac's bass, I checked about the B1+ you mentionned but they seem quite difficult to find in Europe. Would you recommend any other speakers in the same price range with nice bass (without being boomy neither)? Finally, I didn't pay attention if you mentionned it somewhere in the video but some of the reviews you are referring are from the Elac B6.2 (not the 5.2), which are different speakers so I don't know if we can directly compare the reviews. Anyway, nice work and cheers
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 жыл бұрын
Every time I quoted someone about the B6.2 it says B6.2 on the screen next to the quote. I don't listen to Jazz, I know what you mean but I'm not that kind of audiophile. I listen to EDM, hip-hop, etc... My advice is to buy whatever speakers you like and just add a subwoofer honestly. If you like bass you really need a subwoofer. I have reviewed many subwoofers :D so just like you I like my bass!

Hi Nemo, to begin with I was under the impression that you were discussing/reviewing the sound and build of the Elac Debut B5.2 speakers but I was left pretty confused (mid way through) as 3 out of the 5 quoted reviews that you are referencing are for the Elac Debut B6.2? Surely there must be clear distinctions between these 2 speaker models to exist, or am I missing something? Thank you.

Hi Sam, this is an aggregate review so often times we will also look at other models in the lineup for comparison sake. It says on screen anytime the reviewer I'm quoting reviewed a larger or alternate model and I mention it verbally also. As we can see in this video all reviewers had similar agreements and assessments regardless of size in this scenario. That may not always be the case but it was the case here. I hope this helps clear up any confusion.

When "cheapaudioman" did his review, if I recall rightly, he did say they are best paired with a subwoofer. So I don't think he was referring to the below 70hz range with the bass comments. From what I can tell, the b6.2 is not really the same in its sound signature as the b5.2, so I am not sure including quotes about a b6.2 is relevant to the b5.2. Hence, shouldn't emotiva also be more serious about Indian market since they have a lot of budget offerings.

Hey Nano - your car analogy totally hits the spot. You almost always get what you pay for - that's why I pay attention to you, not cheapaudioman. Randy thinks $100.00 bookshelf speakers compete with much more expensive gear. And after this "why audiophiles suck " video, I cant take him seriously. You are on a completely different level brother! Peace, and Happy New Year!!

Hey thank you dude!! Randy is a actually a very nice gentleman and a great source for the younger guys that have yet to build their life and are very budget conscious. I think he like many may have originally been frustrated by some of the sky high prices and pretentious attitudes we sometimes see in the hobby but I'm sure if he heard a $20k system he would not deny how amazing it sounds and he would for sure agree the same sound cannot be had for $2000. I wish, I really wish money wasn't a big factor in the world, it would be so cool if we can buy a car that was like $30k and it was as good as an S class but it's just now the way the world works. I think instead of teaching younger guys that it's okay to buy "cheap" we should be teaching them to empower themselves, to level up, build a career and strong financial foundation for their lives, but we are just youtube reviewers for audio and not financial advisors :).

@@NemoPropaganda That's a great perspective my brother. I know when I first got into audio seriously in the late 80's / 90's that this hobby is a journey that for fun's sake, always changes, always improves, and even in the beginning I was serious about good quality sound. And it costs - always has. You wanted say a Pioneer SX-1950, it was gonna cost you - but it was so fu#king rewarding. And worth saving for - not settling on cheap gear trying to convince yourself ( and others ) you made a better choice. No you didn't - you cheaped out man! Not saying he's not a nice guy - not your caliber brother.

@@Audiomainia2310 you bring up a good point and perhaps it's a sign of the times. So many people want instant gratification that they buy the product they can afford right now so they can have it right now. And sometimes cheap out when instead they could save for maybe 6 months and have something excellent. I knew a gentleman who owned one of the TAD Reference speakers, I said "man you must be rich!" What he said next was amazing, he said "no I'm not rich, I told my wife mostly as a joke I wanted $30k speakers, the next day she came back with a financial plan showing that if we put aside $500 each month in 4 years we would have $24,000 and I could buy them if I found a deal" and god dammit that's what the man did!! I always believed it was better to save and buy the thing you really want but never had I seen it done in audio to such an extent. I only met this man 1 time but this memory will live in my mind forever as a good lesson.

@@NemoPropaganda That's great - a friend of mine in MA just kept upgrading / he would sell what he had and add that to the money he saved. In three years, he now has KEF Reference series speakers, a Luxman amp traded in for the new Technics SU-G700 integrated amp ( wheat a beast ) , Blue Node, and this listening room is absolutely one of the best I've been privy to. And we're both working guys - but know what we want and are patient enough to not sacrifice hard earned money on cheap shit. Btw - just bought the Emotiva speakers to listen for myself, since you've given them such high praise. I was never a fan of ribbon tweeters, but I'm open to change my mind.

@@Audiomainia2310 that's awesome! I've been considering the KEF reference one for myself but it's hard to justify the cost, there is a used pair in my area for $5400. @@NemoPropaganda no, not yet. I dont even know what discord is lmao. I've had high end amps before. Ncores I owned and a few others I demoed. I'm expecting a lot more grunt down low so get rid of the high pass and ring these speakers out, improved spatial (although the Emo is no slouch but I am driving it with nice stuff and it is high passed), improved sonics basically. And with this amp I will get to give the new amp the full spurs from my Dac and Pre since I'll be moving from all single ended to all balanced. Should be killer. Hi, I really want to buy a new set of speaker for my old amplifier (technics ca-1080). Here in Italy we can’t buy directly from emotiva, and so the shipping is about 120€ adding on top of the speaker price. My budget is around 300€ (more or less). Right now there is a deal on the debut b6.2 (~250€). What is your suggest for the 300€ budget price?

I think this format is interesting but I kept thinking that maybe we listen to different music and if you talked about the music you like it would be useful. I’m a musician who listens to early music, chamber music, small ensemble jazz and sometimes fusion. A sound system that reproduces the human voice or acoustic instruments, like strings, woodwind , percussion and brass, with tremendous realism is my ideal. Maybe we don’t even listen to music at the same db level because not all music is performed at the same volume. It’s difficult deciphering statements if we don’t know the priorities they are based on.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
I assume most people do not listen to the same music as me, generally the written/magazine reviewers reference music a lot. I would read those reviews and not understand a thing because I weasn't familiar with any of the tracks they referenced. dB level is also relative to room size, I can go on and on but ultimately all audio reviews are flawed and nothing is a replacement for first hand experience. Your desire to make things more useful is appreciated but just as many people would find it less useful, it is a problem that cannot be solved.
@10sassafras

@@NemoPropaganda I really appreciate your reply. Even knowing your preferred genres would be useful. Are you measuring the speakers against acoustic realism or are you looking for a completely different experience, for example? When you find the 5.2 blah and the Emotiva impressive (unavailable here btw) does that mean the 5.2 would be worse for classical music or just less exciting for contemporary music?

@@10sassafras Hi David, I will admit I am not the most reliable source for those who listen to classical or Jazz. I mostly listen to EDM, Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Pop and a few older acoustic songs like name by goo goo dolls or Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I also do not believe any speaker can recreate a live performance in any way regardless of price. I think speakers create something different all together.
