We have no life insurance (can't afford it). We are struggling to pay the bills and buy food. We feel stuck. We are looking to add some side hustles to make money.

I think people have been tricked into thinking jobs are more secure but they really aren’t. The company you work for could go bust, do a restructure or you could get let go at a moment’s notice. Security is an illusion.

I'm studying medical billing and coding. I'm also setting up an online store. Both are going to require more time and effort. My husband is preparing to quit his job and renovate homes. He's tired of killing himself for an organization that isn't organized. In answer to your question, my husband is definitely more interested in being independent. I'm torn. If my business gives us more $$$, I'll quit the job, but jobs offer insurance which is necessary as we're looking at our 60's which likely mean more expensive health issues.

I know people who managed, and they had kids. They kept their full time job and started the business in their spare time. Holidays meant working on the business. It was really hard, but their families were supportive. My husband is following this path. We don't have kids, but my income won't pay the bills yet.

@@danicegewiss862 The secret is that you don't have kids. Those who follow the duel path miss out on participating in their kids lives. I told my friend, who had a very successful business and a retirement friendly job (Defined Benefit Pension), she would blink and her kids would be graduating High School. At first she thought I was exaggerating and I was...but she blinked and they were 5 years older!!! She put her business on the back burner, only kept her two best clients and started focusing on her three kids. Nearly 10 years later, she has no regrets (well on her way to a good retirement at 55) and many beautiful memories.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey brotha. It’s funny, because I was laid off almost 2 months ago now. It was a shock, but truthfully I was already mentally struggling and on the verge of quitting. This is the longest I’ve gone without working in over 20 years (from 16- 38). I’ve gotten my business up and running, albeit not successfully yet…but I believe steady work will come. I say all that to say that the reality is I’ll need another job for this season of my life. Ive enjoyed the peace of just being able to live but the fear of going broke lingers which makes it difficult to fully just embrace the moment. I’ve been applying and interviewing and even though I know my money is getting tight, I can feel the angst in the pit of my soul because I know someone is going to hire me, and I know it’ll be bittersweet unless it’s an organization that truly puts work-life balance on a pedestal. My recommendation to anyone contemplating going jobless is to be a good steward of your money while you have it, and begin figuring out how to leverage the money you earn to help you make more money so that you can experience some form of true freedom in this life. That’s what I plan to do with the next job. Make wise investments, purchase assets that generate income, etc etc. life is too short to be an employee forever.

I found the opposite to be true. We ran a successful business for 16 year's and we've never felt so tied to a job in our lives. No holiday's or holiday pay, no paid public holidays, no paid sick days, no superannuation payments. We were too busy paying our employees all of the above to be able to take time off. In that 16 year's we only took a one week holiday a few times leaving an employee to run the business, this required alot of planning to achieve. After 16 year's hubby was burnt out and we sold the business. It was a relief to go back to a full-time job with all the benefits, steady income and overtime rates paid.

Being a self-employed musician is a tough way to make a living. I spend hours wearing so many hats (marketing, scheduling, keeping track of payments, practicing, adding new music). But I'd rather work 7 days a week doing music than to work a non-music related 9-5 job being miserable.

Might I suggest that you consider yourself an 'Internet Educator' rather than an 'Internet Entertainer'? Not that you're not entertaining -- you are! -- but you undersell your talent to impart knowledge clearly and to inspire others. Second, I imagine that as you move forward things become a little more predictable, right? I mean, the learning curve is unlikely to be as steep as it was your first year out. I'm wondering if in a future video you might explore where you are at the one-year point and in what ways you've exceeded or come short of your expectations for your channel. From my perspective you're doing great!

It's like you have 10 different roles, but I finally feel like I sort of understand what I'm doing. In terms of YT, I still feel extremely young and naive, but I truly enjoy doing this so I don't think I'll reach burn out. Will just keep learning and growing. Rome wasn't built in a day!

You are so right Austin. I ventured out on my own, made more money than I thought was possible, things changed and the failure broke me. I had to start all over again, working for someone else and I'm currently better off than I've ever been. It has made me a far better employee than I ever was before. I tend to treat my job as I'm paying myself, stay on the hustle regardless of how others operate. I also treat my life like a business, looking from the outside in, instead of being led by emotions.

I've been lucky to get a job that has been my passion. I quit a very well-paying job that was sucking my soul dry and went back to school. Through summer field work, I was hired in the discipline I love. My job offered me great opportunities. I've been stretched and challenged. I was able to take classes and learn new skills. I've become stronger and bolder. I'm retiring from fulltime work in three weeks. I'll continue working for my employer for one day a week and am open to taking on contract projects in the future. Working for an employer can be an incredible opportunity to grow and develop whole still providing a high level of certainty and financial security. I may go back to school in a year or two...

I'm burnt out from my job. Took 2 sick days off and will return on monday, the job is stressful, draining and sometimes nightmare 😂, but the paycheck and benefits are super great. I'm saving and investing hardcore to reach 500k by 2025 and then take 1 year break without working, after that will work on a very small business that will consume only 2 to 3 days a week. Hope to still alive until there 😂😂😂😂

Uncertainty is everywhere. Even if you have a job, do you really think you can't get canned? What if there's lay-offs? As for sacrifice, if you aren't improving your skills all the time, you may become obsolete one day. I still spend hours outside of my job training and learning. I agree having your own business isn't without problems but working for someone is just as bad if not worse. It all boils down to your own personal situation and how much you want to push forward.

I really appreciate this video. I'm in the process of studying & learning to transition to a new profession, but unfortunately there are virtually no employers in the field (herbalism), so I will need to run my own business- whether a clinic or selling products. I keep wanting to quit my full-time job as the workplace is extremely strenuous on my health, but I am glad to have perspective from people who have done it and know that I need to keep going a little longer to make that transition easier on myself - as like you said, it is already a difficult path. My plan right now is to take courses and certifications for adjacent fields (massage therapist, yoga instructor, maybe nutrition or acupuncture) so I can work part-time with a higher income while building my herbalism biz and integrate those into it as well. I have some other side hustles that contribute to my transition plan as well. I'm wishing the best for you and anyone else making their own path so that their work is their *life's work*

Yes but you get equity. That’s the big downside to a 9-5. I work all year and end the year with 0 equity. So 5 years from now you will be way ahead because of the equity you keep in your company

Working harder can mean many different things to different people. At most jobs your pay is based on your time and partially your outcome, studies have shown most workers are checked out by hour six. I believe the big difference is your focus is on one task (without the distractions of coworkers, set hours and commutes) which will allow you to work more effectively. Quitting involves risk like anything else but so is living a life that you don't have passion for.

I've learned the art of the "Mini retirement". Learned this early. Stay out of debt. I'll binge work for years, save, quit. Along the way I've been DOT driver, E Commerce, printing industry, licensed A&P mechanic, real estate investor. No more DOT physicals. Cida Badges, 14 hour days. I've worked for 3 good managers in my life and I'm 55 years old. The bad things you envision when you bail NEVER HAPPEN. Enjoy your life.

In the past, I would have never quit without a backup position. But I was forced out of my 9-5 - the highest paying job I have ever had - due to increasing mental instability and depression brought on by the workload and chaos of the said position. Yes, I was asked to resign. I had a "wellness check" done on me in March, which surprised and shocked me. What was the position? Public school teaching. And I feel guilty for not being there for the kids, but if I didn't quit...I would likely never be able to go back to it. Now I'm trying to piece together PT jobs, teaching art, ESL, summer camp, online, locally, working with autistic kids, ANYTHING. Most of it is considered "gig work". Luckily my bf is moving in and helping with rent after moving to a bigger place...or I wouldn't be able to survive. I am now on meds (not sure if working) and seeing an online therapist. But I am feeling the pressure of "making it" all over again. Thank you for this, I just wish I had a choice like some people...

I took the money and the job. It think it made me a worse person as it consumed me in an unpleasant way. Making it on your own is way better if you can find a way. I stopped working only because I met criteria. I have plenty of money. I have low expenses such as not supporting a family. My money makes plenty of money so I needn't work at all. Not working has been a healing process for me of moving where I want to live and clearing my head to focus on my life. It's a new freedom of mind and body.

I'm sitting here unemployed looking at videos when I ran across this. I started looking at it and five minutes in I couldn't take any more. I understood all you were saying but the uncertainly level for tradtional jobs is now very high. I've worked in IT support for years. All I ever wanted was a job where I could stay, learn, contribute and develop. But it's never happened. Since 2000 even good jobs I had disappeared because i was laid off. Starting over somewhere else became the norm and not the exception. You can't plan a damn thing that way. From late 2022 to 2023 I went through 11 months of unemployment and things were getting desperate. Then I was hired on a contract job in Aug. 2023 that I was told would last until June 2024. It paid very well and I has happy because it was low stress at a nice company with a decent commute. What happens? The company, Swedish owned, shut down the project at the end of Feb. becasue they were in the red. This has happened to me at least four previous times. I hold the corporate world in total contempt. I see that you have a video that says the risk paid off. I will check it out. But I just wanted to say that the traditional job market is very unstable now.

Im an anxious person by nature, after 25 years in the world of broadcasting, which I truly loved, but with something missing always, I have quit my 90K a year job, I would have made 100k with the side gigs I had, I am now a nervous wreck, but in a weird way, I feel something that I havent felt in a long time: Purpose, joy, being on my X, where I have to be. Id rather be broke and have that feeling, than continue being a corporate drone. But theres definitely a price to pay, you put it extremely well, 100% worth it!

Wonderful. This is from someone who has done it not reading books. I have been there and it is awesome. The only thing for me was to be away from my wife and children. Out of that it was a growing process and i am going back to it as my children are grown up now❤

I like your take on this and it needs to be looked at case by case. I hate my work, I'm also old. I know taking an extreme jump like this would cripple me with worry. I think at some point you have to factor in age and challenge what your bandwidth is to quit your job and assume that risk or just deal with the suck you have

I've done both and I'd rather work at a corporation, save, then buy stocks and own companies that way, rather than working for your customers in your own business. I'm not built to deal with picky customers.

I know quiting is not an easy decision. I quit my toxic job last year December. I had started a KZbin channel for a back up plan but i soon discovered that growing a KZbin channel is not easy. Though i have met several challenges i know one day things will be better. And no there are no regrets because freedom is better than anything.

The day you can have your two square meals and your own roof over you it’s time to get out of that wage slavery. Being a free person living every moment in your own terms is very satisfying. Life has to be lived at a slow pace but city life has put the wage slaves on a runway to hell. Everyone is just running and getting burnt out as well as exploited and harassed

I quit my job in May. I have luckily been able to pay my portion of the bills since then with my music income. That said, as the other comments say, I don't have kids, I have significant savings for someone in this shit ass world, and I'm insanely privileged. I don't take it for granted. I have grinded for 16 years to get to this point, but also, I am hyper aware that I'm in a unique situation. I am enjoying that my work is just an extension of me. It always was, I just had resumes to write for stupid CEOs in my past. No more :) Anyways, great video. Gracias para todos!

I honestly think you have to possess certain personality traits. It's not for everyone, the constant uncertainty, the risk, the drive... I know for sure thats the only way I could be happy: work a lot on something that means a lot to me, to be creative, to be my own boss. I'm gonna take the job opportunity I got but I'll have time for other things: my KZbin, finishing my novel etc. and that is what will prevent me to become depressed tbh. I feel like in a cage in a regular job.

I left my job because I'm not built for a 9-5pm. I agree that its easy moneywise because you have paychecks and benefits BUT I realize that no amount of money or benefit can compensate for the misery if you dont like your job. In my case, I knew I didnt like what I was doing and sooner or later I'd get sick because of the stress of work. Being employed, work took over my life. Right now, its been 2 years, I dont feel regret leaving the workforce. There's uncertainty but its not stressing me out unlike when I was employed and I just take one day at a time.

I Quit my job at 26. built an escape plan at my local coffee shop and in a funny way ended up turning my laptop into some kind of freedom machine. had some failures along the way but ultimately and more importantly FOUND MY OWN LANE

I am 38 and I sold my business for 11.4 million dollars. I also rent my condo at a ski resort and use it for free 2 weeks a year, and just homestead. I will never, ever ever work again, nor will I use my fortune to help anyone else. I am 100% dropping out of the workforce and downsizing. The only thing I felt bad about was selling my employees to a venture capital firm, but I got over it quick. I suggest everyone stop working asap.
