I looooove your video! 10 years ago, I resigned from a 6 figure job without a backup plan. I trusted my competence and experience and gave myself 3 months to find another job. For the first time in my career, I took a whole summer off, enjoying walking, hiking, library, hours of breakfast and coffee on my balcony, seeing friends and family. Exactly 3 months minus 1 day later, I got a new job! Since then, there is not one company that is worth my health and peace of mind, so I just quit another job…. I only have a high school degree, but I’m fearless, and I trust myself 😊. I have a simple life, love to travel, but don’t care about stuff and owning a fancy car or big home.

@@cathyallshouse2572 so much knowledge and life lessons! If you don’t have regrets, you didn’t put anything on the line to grow from. I got to look at it that way. Pursuing my greatest dream ever, turned my life upside down and into rather a nightmare, but who knows where I would be if I didn’t pursue what I had always wanted? In my case, it was a pretty fundamental wish. Regret doesn’t even begin to describe what I feel, but if I was the person I was before, I know darn well I would have made the same decisions with the information I HAD AT THE TIME. that’s the grace we need to give ourselves - the person who made those choices did what they did with the knowledge they had AT THE TIME, not the knowledge us more seasoned folk have NOW.

I think its also important to not burn any bridges when you leave a job, especially if you had a good relationship with your boss or company. By not 'burn any bridges' I mean give ample notice which is appropriate and fair and leave on as good a terms as possible. You just never know what life will throw at you, and you want to leave that door open just in case. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for a great video. :)

If you can live as a family below your means, it may not be possible to be job free completely but hours could certainly be reduced to give you more freedom. I have 4 kids, when they were younger we lived quite frugally so one parent could stay at home and we also took in foreign students who were here to learn English as our "side hustle", so when I couldn’t travel to so many places I felt like I had a little bit of those places come to our home and it never felt like a side hustle to me as I enjoyed their company and we had many great conversations. Managed to pay off our mortgage in 11 years on a very low regular job income, which gives us an enormous sense of security. It’s the mindset that is needed to be applied I.e. live below your means and do something you love, not copying his actual life.

Love your comment Elizabeth! I'm quite risk averse as well, but, don't like these long hours 8 to 4 life at all. I like high quality things which cost more money, however, I'm very minimalist, it's alowing me to up savings and investiments and still purchase quality items. This current year and next full year I'm dedicating to speed up my investiments to 100 k. Then 2024 want to go hard on my emergency funds and saving for my small business that I want to start. After that, will see what the future holds for me. The best thing is to set up a plan and start working on it. I'm considering starting o KZbin channel, but this 40 hours life consumes all my energy.

Worst case scenario is that I will have to go back to work if it doesn’t work out. But just having a plan usually gives you a pretty good jump start. I’m sure your youtube income will continue to go up and you will be breaking even before you know it. As long as you continue to live below your means, and saving the difference, you will be fine. We haven’t had health insurance in 20 years which is very risky, but at our age and being self employed, it’s so expensive. Hope to get it soon, as we will be debt free including the house in a few months.

Hi Austin, thanks for another great video. I’m in a position where I’m in a unfulfilling but reasonably comfortable job, I have enough savings to last a couple of years so I’m torn between quitting my job to try and start my own small business in line with work that fulfils me or to stay working a few more years to build up investments. I’m currently trying to invest more time into passion projects to see if they can generate an income to help make the decision easier, the problem with that is just having limited free time, and being burnt out after a full week of work. I think we have to pick our pain in this world, the pain of enduring an unfulfilled career with inevitable future regrets but with the comfort of a paycheque or the pain of worrying financially until a business is profitable but having freedom to live life on my own terms.

Congratulations on your great decision and good luck! One thing comes to my mind though. If you made such a decision, what makes you stay in the US where you have the cost of living 2500 USD? Did you think about becoming a digital nomad and going to some countries that are beautiful and at the same time they have much lower cost of living? On this monthly budget your options are almost endless, on the other hand, even on half the budget as a single person you could live in many countries very well... Maybe a thought for you to make some video on geoarbitrage? I think more people would be interested in that. Or maybe create an interview with some other youtuber that us doing that? I am not from the US so I cannot tell but from what I see in the digital nomad community it seems that many people are leaving the US due to the crazy costs of living and going to different destinations where their money can provide them much better lifestyle than back home.

I work out of my home on my laptop. The commute can't be beat. Our debts are rapidly dropping. By the end of this year we are pushing to be debt free. My husband is settling his father's estate. When that is done, any leftover debt will be gone. The excess we are dumping on the mortgage is going to be dumped on our credit card. When the credit card debt is gone, we're dumping all of it on the mortgage. With all of that gone, we can fix up our house, sell it, and move to a cheaper home.
