One painful comebacker I remember seeing was A's vs. Tigers back in the early to mid 2000's. Jeremy Bonderman took a comebacker off his pitching arm and spun down to the groud screaming in pain.

On 7 May, 1957 the Cleveland Indians were playing the New York Yankees in Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. The starting pitcher for Cleveland was Herb Score, a really good starter, who had a 100 mph fastball. In the first inning he threw a low fastball to Gil McDougal, who hit a line drive back through the box striking Herb in the face breaking multiple facial bones and damaging his eye. He was never the same after that event. I was 8 years old, but saw the play on TV.

One of my last games in 18u I had a line drive come back and hit me in the thigh and fly towards left field. In the same play, the guy that was on 2nd tried for home and slid in and his cleat caught home plate and broke is ankle. Interesting play for sure

Yeah these are brutal. I remember back playing in 8th grade, my best friend at the time was the pitcher and took a line drive right off the leg. He hobbled twice, pitched the ball to first and got the out, then dropped. I could hear bone crack from the outfield. If that was bad, I Can’t even imagine one going off the head or face hit by a grown man. Scary stuff
@o_sch Жыл бұрын
It can be easy to think these injuries aren't possibly that bad when you see how the players tough it out but you have to realize that ball is fucking solid and its going FAST. I broke many things with hard balls and I can't even throw nor hit anywhere near these players. House siding panels, pots, boxes, rocks, lawnchairs. You can easily imagine what that can do to a human.

The come-backer that hit A's pitcher Chris Bassitt in the face @10:30 was a really bad one. Had to get a bunch of stiches and then get surgery to fix the bone and said that he has no memory of getting hit!

I got hit by a comebacker back in little league, just below my right eye. I remember tasting the metal in the blood, there was so much gushing out my nose.

I think that MLB,needs to make a rule,if the picture gets hurt from a comeback ball ,or the catcher gets hurt ,when behind the plate ,or the home plate umpire gets hurt behind the plate ,or any umpire in the infield,or at any base gets hit, the ball is dead,and any player that tries to advance to a nother base ,is called out
@schoolcraftT Жыл бұрын
I think that the rule should be if a pitcher, home plate umpire, or catcher gets hurt by a comebacker, then it’s a dead ball, and the runners advance one base as though it was a hit.

Every time I hear the intro, I can't help but think of that one baseball home run commentary. "This ball is long gone! Just like the ex-girlfriend who will never return! HOME RUN!"

Those thigh shots aren't dangerous, but they hurt like crazy! I took a hit from a golf drive to my right thigh many years back, and even to this day, i still remember the nerve hit shooting waves of pain all the way down to my foot and even up my back... It too almost an entire day before i could walk normally again, and i had cramp like pains for nearly a week that would come and go as the bruising and swelling subsided.

These are prime examples why, if I played baseball I would not want to be a pitcher. If I'm going to be injured, I'd rather be hurt by something I did than by something somebody else did. Also, at 4:23 when the D'back's Robbie Ray got hit in the head, the ball never hit the ground and the third baseman caught it on the fly in foul territory for the out.
