Have you ever seen the process of joining square wood by a professional carpenter with simple tools. The technique this time is a beautiful technique if the three woods used are of different colors or different fibers then it looks beautiful for those who like art. This carpentry technique can be used in photo frames / figures because it will look natural. Without using nails or screws. woodworking joint

You are clearly an excellent carpenter, but could you tell me why you use such a narrow chisel ? I'm almost certain that a wider one would make your life easier. Regards, respect and One Love, Phil.

How about cutting the square hole a little under size, and then steaming the peg to get a very tight fit, just a thought.

I still wonder how a joint like this, or any that have a "peg" hole in them would look if epoxy resin was used instead of wood.

Looks nice, and gets KZbin views (and money) which I suppose was the real aim, but the half-lap joint is plenty strong enough without reinforcement. Also, if it _did_ require reinforcement, it would have been a lot simpler to have glued it up, then drilled a few holes through the joint and glued in some dowels.

The author does like to from scratch, kzbin.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

It would be interesting to do a stress test with this style and compare it to a regular lap joint. My guess would be that they would be very similar in strength.

The lock should be only 1/3 the dimension of the half lap distance. It's just a lock, not structural and the joint would be stronger. Nice execution.

Why would you make your joint weaker by cutting trough and replacing like 4/5th of the lengthwise grain (the strongest part of the wood) with a poorly fitted endgrain to sidegrain square block? Just the half laps from the sides, IF done with less than ½mm gap and then glued with PVA, is about as strong as the rest of the board. IF you wanted to "peg" the joint then one or two MUCH smaller dowels at an offset from each other would suffice.
