My favorite Elbow's song. I'm still very fond of Asleep in the back. Never found that blue mood in their next albums.

I like it, but I find some of the tracks to be quite random and very different (not much cohesion within the album) a good example would be "bitten by the tailfly". Idk it just kinda interrupts the album in my opinion

Great song for sure. I love the whole record. I don't think they've ever done one that wasn't spectacular in its own right.

One of the most breathtakingly beautiful songs ever. The amount of time Guy Garvey holds his breath to sing the notes between 3:14 and 3:32 is amazing. He makes it sound so *effortless*! Gets me every time! The horns and the glass breaking at the end....just perfect.

These guys really were brilliant from the start. I love how epic this is, and yet every sound has been thought about with supreme love and care. The mesmerising groove, the atmospheric guitar, the backing vocals are terrific. And the wonderfully minimalist bit of sax at the end.

@vikicoetsee the song was about ,according to the singer ,was when he was in a bar in Manchester and he noticed the love and care a couple withdrawing from drugs had for each other, He said it was beautiful to see that love can conquer at the most terrible times in ones life.

It takes time to fall in love with Elbow, but when you do it's till death do us part. Through all the years, they are still one of my favorite bands, their debut "Asleep in the back" one of my favorite albums of all time. The songs are so well-crafted and full of musical surprises. The breaking glass in Powder Blue's Bowiesque saxophone finale is the perfect ending for a perfect song. I could rave endlessly about their genius. Just listen! Often!

song is about loving someone and standing beside that person no matter what... even when you're in deep shit video imo is about a man, who loses everything and still has someone completely attached to him, together in his grief and the guy below can't even reach a glimpse of such a love

Elbow is a bit older than 5 years (I know you don't claim the opposite). Saw an amazing concert by them in Amsterdam in 2003. One of those bands that sound better live than on cd. Still, I wouldn't call the American music scene dull, just because the main stream might be dull. I bet you never heard bands like Slint, Polvo and Pinback. It might take more than a few times listening before they hit you, but I'd still recommend them.
@ayamnaubaudi69366 жыл бұрын
Don't know Polvo, but Slint and Pinback are just awesome. So original. And I'm french, so it's not chauvinism. Musically, I've always had an ear in UK and the other in North America. My tongue stayed in France.
