i met and shook hands with george in canada many years ago , me being a chef he asked me to make his favorite ,oysters rockerfeller . it was a pleasure to do that for you george and i thank you for such beautiful music over the years and thank you for your autograph. rest in peace king of country...

My husband wanted this song played at his funeral. I did it for him. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He served as a Naval Chief for 20 plus years. I miss him terribly.

Mr45Bullitt I heard a rumor that before this song came out that GEORGE JONES went to the late and great Mr.Johnny Cash and told him that he needed to borrow 1 MILLION DOLLARS and that Johnny never flinched and wrote him a check for the money never asked him what it was for NOTHING else was said and 2 weeks later this song came out and well we know the rest of the story I honestly believe that because I heard it from a very reliable source??? It has been 4 years 8 month 16 days since my wife past away and I have not been hunting since that day went to the restaurant in town walked in remined me our time there I left and walk home the night are so long the days are even longer . Friend came over told me I should start dating agene told him that would make me fill as if I was cheating on my wife. Thought a bout ending it but I do not have the guts to do that and that is a sin too so I just set in my room and look at her pitcher and talk to her and it help some watch video's this was our favorite song talk her help me aim 70 now not long to wait now . This song brings back memories I saw George Jones in Nashville Tennessee 5 months before he passed away he was playing in Nashville Tennessee at cowboys Bar in Nashville Tennessee on Board way street he played outside in front of the cowboys bar and there were more country music legends playing outside of the bar ❤❤

When I was a teenager, I thought ‘old school’ twangy, corny country was about the least cool thing you could listen to. I’d grown up on deep roots delta blues, which isn’t that far…but country seemed so ‘hillbilly’. Always stating the obvious, dichotomous standards of being true and loyal vs infidelity and two-timing up one side and down the middle. Then the new wave of country came in, and it was somehow more “real” to me. When I heard all the new bloods saying over and over how George Jones was their favorite, or most inspirational, I started listening to his older stuff. Wow! Sometimes, a few years gives you a whole different perspective. This song, and George’s rendition, is pretty much untouchable. His voice lends itself completely to the wail of unrequited love. He had his demons, and his personality that often made things difficult in his private life. But stand the ol’ Possum on stage, and he delivered every time. Flawlessly.💕

I saw an interview with George who said he initially refused to record this song because he thought it was too sad and people wouldn't want to hear it....A big THANKS goes to the individual who convinced him so we have this forever now.
