You know that feeling you get when you read a book and then you get to watch the movie adaptation which turns out to be better in every way? Me neither because that never happens! Still, I think the Fume Knight with proper lighting jumpscare at the end improved upon the source material substantially. Well done.

I think that the legacy dungeons are also worse than past souls levels in how rewarding they are to explore. If you compare the density of unique items, meaning various equippable gear, key items, and special lore items, I think you would find that the density of these things is far lower in any legacy dungeons than it is in most souls levels. Leyndell feels big but many of the nooks and crannies reward little more than runes and crafting materials. There is that section up some stairs where there is a Lion Guardian as well as some Leyndell Knights, and above is where you get the Spear of Gransax. It's a pretty major side path for Leyndell and I genuinely do not remember if there is a single notable item you get along it. 1:10:35 We've talked about this before but I hold rather little interest in the Shaman Village as an explanation for Marika's actions. I think the Shaman Village is good less so because it explains her actions but more because it humanizes her, by showing a spell she cast, one that is pathetic and accomplishes nothing but still feels human. Also the Minor Erdtree in Shaman Village will not actually heal you and yes it is a missed opportunity.

Yeah my intention when talking about the Shaman Village was mainly how it made you feel, not necessarily that it explicitly made Marika’s story fully clear. It was pretty poorly worded on my part. I’ve never been bothered with the spread of items / rewards in Leyndell because a lot of the encounters honestly felt like their own reward. It constantly varies itself to a point where I can have a completely different combat challenge every encounter. I didn’t touch on loot much because I didn’t want the video to get TOO negative, but if I did I definitely would spend some time being annoyed at the DLC and the late-game areas. There’s a LOT of stuff I didn’t get to cover. The old script had a massive tangent on the game’s cut content, its missing world-altering terrain events and the bandaid ways those systems ended up being at launch (like Melina just… giving you the Rold Medallion, and the old paths to Mohgwyn Palace and the Snowfield being cut and replaced with really lame linear paths), but I couldn’t find a way to slip it in naturally so I just opted not to discuss it at all.
