I can confirm first hand, SotE gives you the option to do things the easy way or the hard way. If you press too far into paths that are off the main trail without the proper leveling materials, the enemies will slap you faster than a woodpecker stabbing a tree. Except, there really isn't a "main trail," so it's more like blindly wandering into a dark room that may or may not have a wild, hungry, man-eating polar bear in it.

Scadutree Fragments are basically runes. The DLC has an alternative progression system where you need to find Scadutree Fragments to boost damage negation and damage dealt. I believe there are 50 fragments and at least 20 levels to it. Then, there is also revered spirit ashes which bolster your spirit ummons.

Afro you gotta understand what poise is. Character get staggered when they have low poise and the weapon being used against them has high poise damage/weight. The whips were terrible against poise and worked on Malenia cause she doesn’t have high poise. Enemy’s wearing heavier armor have high poise and can usually walk through the attacks of lighter weapons.

Afro, to kill the Fire Giant you gotta rely on your horse to have an easier time dodging his attacks. You'll do the most damage by knocking him down for you to do a critical hit. Plus he has some of the best gear in the DLC once you slay him.

As a tip for you, the blessings that you get doubles in defense and attack. The more you get, the more you will survive. The wipes you were using are good, but the enemies don’t give a f**k of what you do to them. This side of the game says “how much have you learned”. Some Tips: 1. Maybe get the reverse grip blades if you want a wep based on this dlc 2. Dodging. You only really roll backwards at times when alotta make attacks you should instead roll to the side or run horizontally. Physical attacks mainly roll diagonally forward (forward but in a slant not directly into opp). AOE attacks like the fire from the giant, you can jump. 3. Be patient. Especially with the spirit and humanoid enemies, bait out drinks and ranged attacks. Once you get too close, it triggers their melee combat (which is why you got confused by the knight not always crossbowing). And dnt jump attack faster enemies. Just take one or two hits then move.
