SPOILERS He isn't outright evil but he does steal from you. He's playing both sides- if you win and finish off Godrick, he wins because he hates his boss, and relishes the chance to step on his head. If you lose, he steals some of your runes from your body (you may notice that if you Retrieve Runes in the castle while that NPC is alive, you only get like 75% back instead of the full value). He also stalks you at a few points.

to be fair, i tried the side passage, which seemed to end with being locked in a room with an 8ft tall scary knight dude with a big ass shield and murdered while this guy snickers and runs away, so i went "yeah i think ima go in the front". imagine my surprise when there was a proper path, that involved fighting multiple such knights, yeah i'll take running from ballistas, and firebombs.

Its so accurate. Having played every FromSoft game since day 1, there's certain dialogue that you just realize is so repetitive and meaningless that you can't stomach it anymore. Every game has been a repeat of the same gibberish that has no actual value other than trying to sound broody and poetic, but there's no meat to it at all, nothing to gain story-wise, character-wise, sidequest-wise, etc. The games would be incredible if tried harder with this, not Elder Scrolls level of dialogue but at least some effort.

​@@IVomitOrgasms i think youre grossly over-exaggerating it. Having played the game without guides or anything, I found NPC dialogue to be one of the most useful things in this game. Most of them have some kind of hint regarding stuff you can do or where to go. Also, they have sharply toned down the Dark Souls-esque dialogue of " very vague cryptic stuff followed by a sinister laugh", most of the NPCs have way easier to track personalities and interesting personal stories and questlines.
