I’m still in disbelief this is real. When Bandai Namco asked me to make an animation for Elden Ring I gave a big resounding yes. The Souls series is so incredibly close to my heart. SPOILERS He isn't outright evil but he does steal from you. He's playing both sides- if you win and finish off Godrick, he wins because he hates his boss, and relishes the chance to step on his head. If you lose, he steals some of your runes from your body (you may notice that if you Retrieve Runes in the castle while that NPC is alive, you only get like 75% back instead of the full value). He also stalks you at a few points.

Low walls actually do exist. They were quite useful actually. The enemy would charge and the defending army would let them cross the wall only to push them back and make them trip. An apparently insignificant obstacle becomes a mountain when you're surrounded by hundred of angry men trying to kill each other.
