Honestly, that's kinda true for a RPG romance. Their role and the story and whatever side quest that makes up the courtship may be written well but once you tie the knot then all they do is stand around the house/base/ship whatever and repeat like 5 lines.

In a lot of RPGs with wife mechanics, stardew valley for example, the NPCs have personality before the marriage because that’s what gets you interested in marrying them, but after the marriage, the route is considered “done” and all the wives, no matter who you chose, will have the same bland personality.
