Just to add, Blackguard's quest can be done even if you reach Volcano Manor first as long as you talk to Rya at the lakes. What I haven't figured out is if I got locked out of Patches because I reached Volcano Manor first before revisiting him after transporter trap in Murkwater Cave.

Rya is also waiting at the top of the grand lift of dectus and will teleport you to volcano manor if you feel like skipping the patches interaction

I was recommending this channel to my husband last night, because he just started to get into this game, which he has only played Dark Souls and Call of Duty before, so he doesn't really know how to handle a non-linear game, especially one that tells you very little. If anyone is wondering you can also get the calm down gesture if you speak to him at the patches emporium and press talk, you can then go to Raya lucaria and go to the schoolhouse classroom grace. Go down the elevator outside and get eaten by the virgin and you will be at Mount gelmir. Go back to patches and he will give you it

I never saw Patches at the cliff side of Mt. Gelhmir, and I never killed him. I've actually been unknowingly getting through parts of side quest through out my entire playthrough, so I'll update this if I see him at Shaded Castle.

After following this guide, for some reason, Goldmask did not have his set available, and Corhyn wasn't at the Ashen Capital. I checked back at where Corhyn was last at, which was at the bridge in Mountaintops of the Giants. There was an item there, but wasn't his, and he wasn't there either. So I thought quest was done for. One of these things fixed it: Getting the Frenzied Flame mark. Beating Dragon of Placidusax (I missed this somehow). Beating a silver version of Godfrey (I don't remember where this was, but this was not likely the solution). Dragon of Placidusax was probably the solution, but I'm not sure. After doing these, Corhyn was still not at Ashen Capital, but was back at the bridge. Quit & saved to refresh, his items were there, along with an item from a corpse on a chair near him. Goldmask's set was also available after this.

At the end of his quest from what I can tell. You can still get the Extreme Repentance gesture by fighting him again and he will stop fighting if you use the gesture on him, though you do have to use it rather close to him, so I'd recommend healing if low health still. As for the calm down gesture, I haven't seen his trapped chest respawn, so I don't believe you can get it at that point of his quest.

Patches didn't appear back at murkwater cave for me but after logging out and back in(and leveling up) he was there! :D.

Yea the level up or using a rune arc is required for the patch to take effect.

After going through the alternate route to the Altus plateau, you can also find Rya in the stargazer ruins and she will teleport you directly to volcano manor. Saves a lot of time

Yeh, I did killed the volcano boss without knowing it would stop volcano quests, the queen, girl or whatever her name is, leave after you talk to her and reload once or twice, after that the tonick will spawn at the her empty chair, But I did kill her at the volcano boss room, just not sure if I found the tonik before or after killing her. I didn't made the castle yet, I'll go there and test if we can get the other gesture from him when he's back to the cave, as I had no idea you had more gesture by attacking him again. Edit: I can confirm, even if you kill volcano boss and the queen, if you go to the castle, he will be there, no need to fight the boss tough, just go from the other tower. Talk to him, he will give the item, talk to him again until he pass out, teleport to his cave, he will be there as a boss, poke him until he surrender. At this point I got his "squat" gesture "patches crouch", after that I hit him 3 times, the fight start, he give you the gesture to surrender, but I didn't get the "calm down" gesture. Not sure if because I got lost trying to find the gesture to surrender and die :( .. Talking to him again does nothing besides shopping

Hey guys, if you cant find patches after forgiving him in the cave. Go check volcano manor in the hallway near the sight of grace. Homie will be crouching there with his shop ready to go and his volcano manor request.

I don't think it's broken.. more like unfinished. I think it's because even though there are a lot of unfinished quests/open ends in the release version of the game, it's just so jam packed with content and things to do that anything added to it after release feels like bonus/free content.

It is actually really frustrating because for me I ended up killing Kenneth Haight, Patches, and Stormhawk Loux chick just to see what they dropped because it appeared there was nothing left for them to do. Now I have to go thru NG+ or a New Game because I ruined their questlines. And honestly, being able to change build at any time, weird PVP/matchmaking decisions during development and the lack of any covenants... I have no real motivation to do NG right now.

This is for everyone else because Shatter actually replied to my last comment, on the all missable items guides (10/10 great videos ) if someone would like to try the "my beloved" prattling plate on her after the castanets have been given I have a small theory it could lead somewhere, seems like a unusual plate to have for pvp or coop and she specifically refers to her " Beloved lord" we learn for the castanets that's she was a dancer of his in the beginning maybe hearing his voice like boc will trigger some extra dialogue or something saddly I killed her for the incant and can't test, please update me with any findings, another theory is that parts of the Manor may open to his voice like a portrait or something, I dunno if elden has been full data mined or not and I don't want too tbh this to me is the heart of souls, I'm on PS4 if anyone wants to join my lore based quests and learn a couple side peices even Vaati doesn't know yet ;) Psn Arcaneos510 \[T]/ Stay curious tarnished.

I just kill him as a boss for his armor. The main reason being that despite traveling a LOT, his shop doesn't get any better outside of a second Estoc. Sure you get a bunch of gestures but that's about it outside of his Volcano Manor assassination quest, and even then the rewards for that are very situational. The easiest fix to improve this and discourage killing him right off the bat would be to have his shop wares expand in a meaningful way as it progresses, one additional item isn't enough, that is unless it was a Cross-Naginata or a Claymore, then he'd love long enough for that at the very least.

Can you make some suggestions for mid game builds? Those would be great vids and with the patches things change over time. I just got wings of astel and thinking about a respec into int and trying spells. I’ve only used incantations up until now. So not sure which ones are good. Super informational vid on patches. Personally I’m split between dex, faith, and arcane. I mostly use faith for the erdtree heal and golden vow/other buffs. Then use arcane/dex for rivers of blood. Sometimes I’ll use black flame if I really need a ranged option.

Patches spawned outside of Elmer of the briar boss room for me before I beat the boss. I’ve defeated Malikith the black blade already in faram azula so I’m pretty far in the game and it didn’t mess up his quest line

I think it mainly has to do with wether or not you’ve defeated Rykard. If you defeat Rykard before completing the initial steps in patches quest (up to the bull-goat armor) you’ll miss out on those
