For anybody who’s wondering, the reason the ash of war sometimes appears to “hit twice” or deal damage to players without grabbing them is because the actual blade of the sword has an active hit box during the plunging animation. You can test this for yourself by attacking PvE (which can’t be grabbed) with the ash of war and see the blade deal damage when it comes in contact with them. My guess is that, in some cases, when used on other players, the sword nicks them BEFORE going into the grab animation, which then deals additional damage on its own.

That grab is _SO_ crazy. Especially considering how finicky the other grabs are! Like, you can grab people mid-roll, mid-AoW, mid-whatever. You can even grab two people at once! Tere's just *no* escaping that grab.

This sword can be made 'honest' for PvP in couple of ways: either reduce hitbox for the grab by 50% so it's harder to land or reduce the number of s during grab and recovery by 50% so that it's not a risk free move.

funfact you can crit your teammates with it aswell, also cooperators and hosts. This can be used to skip some parts in the DLC, since you dont take any fall dmg with that, can be compared to the DS2 cat ring skip.

Greatsword of Damnation is an amazing weapon, Golden Crux is kinda broken but because the grab hitbox (or grab box if you will) has two locations rather than one. The first is on the weapon when you come down on players, however the second grab box is located on the players feet. So if one misses, the other will connect. Best defense? Back up and play the long game, unless you are fighting Chase. If you see Chase, you should already be starting your run over again in your head Edit: At 13:27, 690hp is hands down one of the lowest hp levels I have ever seen

Just a heads up, to know if you killed a host, simply look at the particles that come from the player you killed, the particles would be white for hosts while the yellow particles would appear from cooperators

Greatsword of Damnation having the follow up if you miss the initial impale is something the other critical based AoW really needed. I think the only other AoW based around a crit animation is Lifesteal Fist? Would have nice if you whiffed or use against an enemy that isn't a player/NPC if just had a lingering hitbox that you could detonate. Hopefully the next Soulslike game addresses stuff like that. Also I've found the Smithscript Axe true combo vid again. It's by CapDayne Levi. They used a level 150, 80 Faith build with minimal stats to wield the axe on Fire Art infusion and Raptor's Of The Mist AoW, with Rakshasa helm/gauntlets/greaves and the Raptor's Black Feathers chest piece, both incantation boosting talismans, Claw Talisman and the Smithscript Talisman to maximize damage from jumping attacks and incantations. In the first invasion they deleted a phantom with 1450 HP with after using the AoW jump attack with an R1 follow up. It's kind of wild how strong this set up can be. They were even comboing the jumping R2 with Fire Serpent. The build seems very versatile and I imagine the Intelligence version having all kinds of AoE and burst damage potential with all of the spells available.

I did notice for a one shot or close to one shot add holy scorpion for more holy damage. But same time might throw on a physical defense if you want to. Also some buffs will help it as well. Like Gold Vow and howl of Shibiri what i done. Also mix with flask of stone or barb crack tear for more charge but what i notice can be bugged or over do so that won't happen. Other then that what i notice i come close to one shotting or actual one shotting the player. Wanted throw in what i know/tested with the greatsword of damnation.

This is absolutely one of my favourite weapons for pvp, the grab is just so good, and you can bait people into the AoE if you miss the grab

About the grab: The grab got 2 damage instances, the actual sword and the grab final hit, the sword damage is only applied if the grab miss (if the opponent is immune to the grab or out of the range for whatever reason). But due to latency, sometimes you can hit the opponent twice with both the sword and the grab which usually ends on a one shot (usually when you get a grab, your sword hitbox is denied instantly to avoid the second hit). And of course, if you miss a grab, you can do a AoE follow up, and you can delay it by a little, so you can trick players into thinking you are not using the AoE, by faking some grab attempts, and then when they rush you, then you use it to throw them off. Most pvers have no idea how to deal with this weapon, you can dish entire gank squads by just L2 spam, duelists and other pvpers tend to space the grab out and always assume the AoE, punishing only during the recovery of the Ash, luckly this weapon uses the claymore moveset that is very satisfying to use, so you can just fight with it and only use the grab when you are sure you will hit.
